Top 5 Picks

Happy Turkey Sacrifice Day! by CrazyPaintbrush

CrazyPaintbrush - Happy Turkey Sacrifice Day

Cute scene! For all those living in America, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Turkey Sacrifice Day! The humor in this piece is really fun and it totally captures the happy chaos of the holiday. These knights just go to show that family doesn’t have to be related by blood. Great coloring! Find her DeviantArt here.

A Classic Flavor! by ArtisticAsianBunny

ArtisticAsianBunny - A Classic Flavor

An adorable personification of popgum! It really is a “classic flavor,” and a classic item at that. I can’t remember a time when it wasn’t in the store! The color scheme of “Poppy” is obviously on point, and her cute simplicity is really that: classic. What’s YOUR favorite flavor of popgum? Find her DeviantArt here.

Ask IJ #5 by Honeybox360

Honeybox360 - Ask IJ 5

Another simple one, but another great one! Ask blogs have become a super cool trend across the Poptropica community, so it was about time we featured one, huh? In this particular one, you can ask Incredible Jumper practically anything! Despite the simple premise of the ask my OC trend, you can tell that this artist puts lots of effort into each answer. Just look at those sweet colors! Anyone else love cotton candy flavored ice cream? Find her DeviantArt here.

Pop-vember Day 2 by BlueShadow1300

BlueShadow1300 - Popvember Day 2

Now this is a unique one! Not directly relating to food, but definitely implying an upcoming… meal. Following happyclonetrooper’s Pop-vember drawing challenge, this piece was based on the prompt “scene from your favorite island.” Though Survival isn’t technically the artist’s favorite island, the scene still turned out great! The Poptropica-styled anatomy of Myron’s chef (dubbed “Clara” by the artist) here is super artistic and simply well drawn. Nice work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Dr. Hare Carrot Cupcakes by Gentle Dolphin

Jordyn Gowens - Dr. Hare Cupcakes.png

Delicious! This entry is super unique and fits this month’s theme perfectly for obvious reasons. Baking is a skill that can take lots of creativity, just like art, except you can eat your masterpiece! These Dr. Hare recreations are super cute and the various expressions show attention to detail. Plus, using carrot cake is a hilarious bonus. I’m really glad we got an actual food submission. They look good enough to eat! Find her Twitter here and check out her posts right here on the PHB!

Honorable Mentions

SlantedFish - 24 Carrot Diner - The Gang's All Back

With the chaos of Thanksgiving and the stress of upcoming exams for a lot of you, submissions were a bit more scarce than usual. So instead of the usual collection of honorable mentions, I decided to feature Slanted Fish’s very own creation! Her “24 Carrot Diner – The Gang’s All Back!” piece is a great “food” related piece, capturing the tone of November with a creative art-style. Check out her DeviantArt here! 😉

December: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Worlds houses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is December’s theme? December’s theme is…

Celebration!

December is a month of many holidays across the world, stemming from many different cultures. But no matter what your family celebrates, we want to see what YOU create for it! It’s important to embrace the world’s differences and celebrate what makes us unique, even in a small community like ours.

Soooo, what are you waiting for? The theme is super broad for ultimate creativity! Draw your Poptropican surrounded by friends next to a cozy campfire, make Poptropica themed holiday cookies, write a Poptropica story that starts off with a quiet house (where not even a mouse is making a noise perhaps?), etc. The options are endless. 🙂

Happy Holidays!!!

  • Submitting: Comment below with a link to whatever you’ve created OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArtTwitter, or Discord.
  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as 3 honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

Pop Fan Artist Spotlights

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: Slanted Fish

Hello, Poptropicans, and welcome to another Pop Fan Artist Spotlight! It’s Lucky Joker here, and today I’m featuring the art of the one and only Slanted Fish!

As the primary graphic creator for the PHB, Slanted Fish’s creations can been seen all over the site, such as in the header at the top! As you’ll see, there’s a very distinct look to her art with the unique shapes, textures, and patterns she uses. Fishy often draws in a Poptropica-like style, but also experiments with other styles too.

Check out this gallery of some of her work below, which includes my favorite piece of hers, “Mighty Action Force.” Click the images to enlarge them:

Slanted Fish’s art is seriously special! Check her out on DeviantArt if you haven’t already. (By the way, Fishy just celebrated her birthday this past Thursday, so send birthday wishes her way!🎈 It’s not too late yet, right? 😛 )

And that’s it for this spotlight! I hope you liked this look into a Poptropica fan’s artwork! Got any Poptropica fan art of your own? We’d love for you to share it to our DeviantArt group gallery, We-Love-Poptropica!

Also—on the topic of art—don’t forget to participate in Community Creations this month—the theme is food! 🌮🍣🥦 Thanks for reading, as always, and I’ll talk to you all soon… pop on!

space man take me by the hand by SuperFlameKitty

SuperFlameKitty - space man take me by the hand

What beautiful colors! Anyone in the comments an Ocean Man fan? I think most people know by now that I’m a sucker for a cool galaxy aesthetic. The colors in this piece are magical and blend together seamlessly without line-art (a talent I personally struggle with). Binary Bard looks perfectly glassy-eyed and ominous, giving the painting a mysterious tone. As eerie (apropos of this spooky season) as the scene is, however, I still have the urge to take that darn space man’s hand??? The facial expression and setting are utterly hypnotizing. Great mood! Find their DeviantArt here.

Plague Bunny by HoneyBox360

Honeybox360 - Plague Bunny

Another well-blended palette! The monochromatic color scheme of red really makes the green of Dr. Hare’s eyes pop, giving the hue a poisonous look. This piece’s aesthetic is not quite as eerie as the last, but it is certainly just as ominous. The strokes in the color are super soft and the silhouettes in the background add lots of interest to an otherwise simple composition. The simple style gives the subject a clear focus and the figure’s position definitely adds intrigue. A super interesting piece! Find her DeviantArt here.

Heathens by NineTenOnetyOne

NineTenOnetyOne - Heathens

Once again, a quite ominous tone! This drawing seems straight out of a movie poster, consisting of a dramatic and interesting composition. Lots of detail went into each character, with thought even put into the villainous silhouettes. The evil, threatening mood efficiently intrigues the viewer into the piece’s underlying story and the expressions clearly demonstrate the characters’ emotions. Amazing design! Find her DeviantArt here.

Copy Cat by POP-whitewolf

POP-whitewolf - CopyCat

Who thought we’d have a submission without an ominous tone, huh? With a theme like “villains,” it can be hard to focus on the softer, cuter sides of characters. Still, in this piece Copy Cat, a classic baddie, is given a bit of a stylish, modern twist. The bubble tea and the casual, yet realistic posture of the figure adds another level of interest for the drawing, which would otherwise be a bit simple in composition. The overall purple hue softens up the character quite a bit, while still maintaining an appropriate aesthetic. Soft, subtle detail is skillfully included in the hair and clothes, which beautifully add to the realistic design. Find her DeviantArt here.

My Fan Villains Pt. 2 by MissEligon

MissEligon - My Fan Villains Pt. 2

Now designs like this are unique! I love to see original characters from Poptropicans in the community, but MissEligon (and Criaha of course) always takes it one step further. These characters are a continuation of the artist’s first batch of fan villains, with each design being totally different from the last. One thing I love about these collections are the diversity that they demonstrate, with a variety of personalities, backgrounds, body types, etc. included. These wide ranging traits can often be difficult to include in a single reference image, but distinct emotions have still certainly been captured in this series. And it will forever continue! Haha… right? Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

We had so many phenomenal entries this month that it was even more difficult to choose who to feature than normal! Because of the amazing number of submissions, I decided to fit in a few more honorable mentions than normal. 😉 It should be no surprise though, considering the huge significance of villains across Poptropica. All the submissions were stunning!

FOOD!

How has this theme not been used yet? I have absolutely no idea. But anyway, I think food is an enjoyment that we can all relate to! Hmmm… snacks… *cough* And with the colder months starting for most of the world, sweet treats are becoming more and more prominent with upcoming holidays. So wouldn’t a food theme be appropriate for the occasion?

So… what exactly are things that you can submit this time around? There are a ton of options! Draw your favorite villains having a huge feast, create a wacky Poptropica inspired recipe, or even write a poem about your favorite foods showcased in islands. Heck, I’d be super duper impressed if anyone made sweet Poptropica treats in the real life kitchen! Captain Crawfish crawfish perhaps? A cookie shaped like the face of your favorite author? Oh geez, never mind, please don’t eat me…… ANYWAY, let the baking (literal or metaphorical) begin!

PHB Specials

PHB Sp00py Special: Guess the Horror Scene!👻

Horror movies have been around pretty much since the beginning of film’s history (with the first ever being “The Haunted Castle”, released in 1896!), and have become a staple in many households during the Halloween season.

BOO! How’s it going, spooktropicans? It’s Lucky Joker here and today I bring you a horrifying Halloween treat! I’ve recreated iconic scenes (Poptropica style 😎) from various films in the horror genre, and it’s your job to guess which one each of them are from! Enjoy, and good luck! 🍀

(Note: Answers are hidden at the bottom of this post — highlight the text to reveal them. 👀)

1) “Come play with us”

PHBHalloweenSpecial1

Little Danny explores the halls of the Overlook Hotel when he comes across a strange pair of twin girls standing at the end of a hallway, who seemingly know his name. As they invite him to play, they continuously get closer and closer to him with each line, much to Danny’s horror.

2) “More effective than wolfsbane”

PHBHalloweenSpecial6.png

Vampire hunter, Professor Abraham Van Helsing, scares the count away by holding up a crucifix.

3) “Squawk!”

PHBHalloweenSpecial5

A homicidal swarm of seagulls crashes a child’s party causing quite a stir as Melanie, Annie, and Mitch try to rush the children into the house.

4) “They’re all gonna laugh at you”

PHBHalloweenSpecial3

When a girl who was only made to feel like an outcast all her life wins the title of prom queen at the highly awaited end-of-the-year dance, all seems miraculous and like a dream come true. When a bucket of pig’s blood is poured over her on stage as part of a malicious prank, everyone laughs at her, and all goes downhill.

5) “The power of Christ compels you!”

PHBHalloweenSpecial7

Father Karras stands alongside Father Merrin as they attempt to expel the demon inside the suffering, possessed Regan.

6) “Get out of the water!”

PHBHalloweenSpecial2

It’s Independence Day, and everyone is having fun at the beach on Amity Island. Panic erupts when Alex is fatally attacked by an angry shark, marking this tragedy as the second shark attack on the island.

7) “We all go a little mad sometimes”

PHBHalloweenSpecial4

Marion is stabbed to death in the shower at the unsettlingly vacant Bates Motel by a disguised Norman Bates, the hotelier.

So, how many did you recognize? Feel free to leave your guesses in the comments below. By the way, check out my Pop Halloween costume this year, hehe:

Pop Places IRL, Vampire's Curse Island

Pop Places IRL: Vampire’s Curse

Pop Places IRL Header

Welcome back to “Pop Places IRL,” Poptropicans! Today, I’m bringing you an extra spoOOOooOoky setting. This time around, we’ll be traveling to Vampire’s Curse Island! Enjoying the series? Be sure to check out other Pop Places IRL posts.

So, first things first… where exactly does Vampire’s Curse take place? Though the setting is never directly stated, it is implied that the island is heavily influenced by the classic tale of Dracula. In fact, Count Bram is named after its author, Bram Stoker.

And, dear readers, the castle featured in Dracula is none other than the Bran Castle. Eerily similar to “Bram’s Castle,” don’t you think? The creepy tale made the IRL castle pretty famous, because you can even take tours of it today!

I suppose this castle comparison leads us to another question… where is the castle located? If you haven’t already guessed, the infamous Bran Castle is located in Romania, a country in Europe. Specifically, the towering construction is near Transylvania, a region especially known for vampire lore. Though the towns in the area are much more modern today, you can definitely still see the remains of older architecture.

However, when you begin to stray away from civilization on Vampire’s Curse Island, you’re sure to wind up deep in the woods (on your way to Bram’s castle, of course). A bit of a maze in game, I’m thinking IRL Romanian forests aren’t much easier to navigate at night. Though they might be less vampire-infested, Romania’s woods always seem to come with their own creepy lore either way.

Finally, I think it’s important to touch on the graveyards of Romania, considering their own spooky connotation in-game, where the grand Mausoleum has Latin that reads “meminervnt omnia amantes,” translating to “remember all the lovers.”

This sure adds to the island’s spooky aesthetic, but how does its appearance hold up to its counterparts in real life? It turns out that Romania has a pretty famous grave site called The Merry Cemetery, filled with surprisingly colorful gravestones. What a contrast!

Welp, that wraps up our IRL tour of Vampire’s Curse! Did it live up to your Halloween-y expectations? Hope we didn’t spook you too much this year. 😉

But I’m curious… what do you think? Have you ever been to Romania? How do our comparisons to the game hold up? What other islands do you want to see in this series? Be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts below!

La revedere! Don’t let the vampire bats bite!
