Top 5 Picks

space man take me by the hand by SuperFlameKitty

SuperFlameKitty - space man take me by the hand

What beautiful colors! Anyone in the comments an Ocean Man fan? I think most people know by now that I’m a sucker for a cool galaxy aesthetic. The colors in this piece are magical and blend together seamlessly without line-art (a talent I personally struggle with). Binary Bard looks perfectly glassy-eyed and ominous, giving the painting a mysterious tone. As eerie (apropos of this spooky season) as the scene is, however, I still have the urge to take that darn space man’s hand??? The facial expression and setting are utterly hypnotizing. Great mood! Find their DeviantArt here.

Plague Bunny by HoneyBox360

Honeybox360 - Plague Bunny

Another well-blended palette! The monochromatic color scheme of red really makes the green of Dr. Hare’s eyes pop, giving the hue a poisonous look. This piece’s aesthetic is not quite as eerie as the last, but it is certainly just as ominous. The strokes in the color are super soft and the silhouettes in the background add lots of interest to an otherwise simple composition. The simple style gives the subject a clear focus and the figure’s position definitely adds intrigue. A super interesting piece! Find her DeviantArt here.

Heathens by NineTenOnetyOne

NineTenOnetyOne - Heathens

Once again, a quite ominous tone! This drawing seems straight out of a movie poster, consisting of a dramatic and interesting composition. Lots of detail went into each character, with thought even put into the villainous silhouettes. The evil, threatening mood efficiently intrigues the viewer into the piece’s underlying story and the expressions clearly demonstrate the characters’ emotions. Amazing design! Find her DeviantArt here.

Copy Cat by POP-whitewolf

POP-whitewolf - CopyCat

Who thought we’d have a submission without an ominous tone, huh? With a theme like “villains,” it can be hard to focus on the softer, cuter sides of characters. Still, in this piece Copy Cat, a classic baddie, is given a bit of a stylish, modern twist. The bubble tea and the casual, yet realistic posture of the figure adds another level of interest for the drawing, which would otherwise be a bit simple in composition. The overall purple hue softens up the character quite a bit, while still maintaining an appropriate aesthetic. Soft, subtle detail is skillfully included in the hair and clothes, which beautifully add to the realistic design. Find her DeviantArt here.

My Fan Villains Pt. 2 by MissEligon

MissEligon - My Fan Villains Pt. 2

Now designs like this are unique! I love to see original characters from Poptropicans in the community, but MissEligon (and Criaha of course) always takes it one step further. These characters are a continuation of the artist’s first batch of fan villains, with each design being totally different from the last. One thing I love about these collections are the diversity that they demonstrate, with a variety of personalities, backgrounds, body types, etc. included. These wide ranging traits can often be difficult to include in a single reference image, but distinct emotions have still certainly been captured in this series. And it will forever continue! Haha… right? Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

We had so many phenomenal entries this month that it was even more difficult to choose who to feature than normal! Because of the amazing number of submissions, I decided to fit in a few more honorable mentions than normal. 😉 It should be no surprise though, considering the huge significance of villains across Poptropica. All the submissions were stunning!

November: How Do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Worlds houses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is November’s theme? November’s theme is…

FOOD!

How has this theme not been used yet? I have absolutely no idea. But anyway, I think food is an enjoyment that we can all relate to! Hmmm… snacks… *cough* And with the colder months starting for most of the world, sweet treats are becoming more and more prominent with upcoming holidays. So wouldn’t a food theme be appropriate for the occasion?

So… what exactly are things that you can submit this time around? There are a ton of options! Draw your favorite villains having a huge feast, create a wacky Poptropica inspired recipe, or even write a poem about your favorite foods showcased in islands. Heck, I’d be super duper impressed if anyone made sweet Poptropica treats in the real life kitchen! Captain Crawfish crawfish perhaps? A cookie shaped like the face of your favorite author? Oh geez, never mind, please don’t eat me…… ANYWAY, let the baking (literal or metaphorical) begin!

  • Submitting: Comment below with a link to whatever you’ve created OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArtTwitter, or Discord.
  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as 3 honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

BOO! How’s it going, spooktropicans? It’s Lucky Joker here and today I bring you a horrifying Halloween treat! I’ve recreated iconic scenes (Poptropica style 😎) from various films in the horror genre, and it’s your job to guess which one each of them are from! Enjoy, and good luck! 🍀

Pop Places IRL, Vampire's Curse Island

Pop Places IRL: Vampire’s Curse

Pop Places IRL Header

Welcome back to “Pop Places IRL,” Poptropicans! Today, I’m bringing you an extra spoOOOooOoky setting. This time around, we’ll be traveling to Vampire’s Curse Island! Enjoying the series? Be sure to check out other Pop Places IRL posts.

So, first things first… where exactly does Vampire’s Curse take place? Though the setting is never directly stated, it is implied that the island is heavily influenced by the classic tale of Dracula. In fact, Count Bram is named after its author, Bram Stoker.

And, dear readers, the castle featured in Dracula is none other than the Bran Castle. Eerily similar to “Bram’s Castle,” don’t you think? The creepy tale made the IRL castle pretty famous, because you can even take tours of it today!

I suppose this castle comparison leads us to another question… where is the castle located? If you haven’t already guessed, the infamous Bran Castle is located in Romania, a country in Europe. Specifically, the towering construction is near Transylvania, a region especially known for vampire lore. Though the towns in the area are much more modern today, you can definitely still see the remains of older architecture.

However, when you begin to stray away from civilization on Vampire’s Curse Island, you’re sure to wind up deep in the woods (on your way to Bram’s castle, of course). A bit of a maze in game, I’m thinking IRL Romanian forests aren’t much easier to navigate at night. Though they might be less vampire-infested, Romania’s woods always seem to come with their own creepy lore either way.

Finally, I think it’s important to touch on the graveyards of Romania, considering their own spooky connotation in-game, where the grand Mausoleum has Latin that reads “meminervnt omnia amantes,” translating to “remember all the lovers.”

This sure adds to the island’s spooky aesthetic, but how does its appearance hold up to its counterparts in real life? It turns out that Romania has a pretty famous grave site called The Merry Cemetery, filled with surprisingly colorful gravestones. What a contrast!

Welp, that wraps up our IRL tour of Vampire’s Curse! Did it live up to your Halloween-y expectations? Hope we didn’t spook you too much this year. 😉

But I’m curious… what do you think? Have you ever been to Romania? How do our comparisons to the game hold up? What other islands do you want to see in this series? Be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts below!

La revedere! Don’t let the vampire bats bite!

A new author dives in: Gentle Dolphin

gd chibiHello, PHB readers!

My name is Gentle Dolphin, and I’m the newest staff writer on the Poptropica Help Blog. I’m grateful for this position, and I can’t wait to be a part of this journey!

Just in case anyone doesn’t know who I am, here’s a brief rundown. My real name is Jordyn, but I go by Gentle Dolphin in the Poptropica community. Well, technically, I go by three different names online: Jordyn, Gentle Dolphin, and @phs_animations. (I really should not have made my online names hard to keep track of…)

I’ve been a big fan of Poptropica for a long time (about six years at this point), but I started getting involved in the community less than two years ago. Since then, I have been making Poptropica fan art and even started my own fan blog: Gentle Dolphin’s Pop Blog.

Outside of the Poptropica community, I do plenty of stuff on and offline. I like to write stories and draw pictures; one of my goals in life is to become a comic artist and an animator. I enjoy baking, singing, dancing, playing computer games, and spending time with family. I also love animals; I especially love cats.

If you want to see more of my work or talk, feel free to check out my social media. I’m on DeviantArt, Twitter, Instagram, and Discord. If you want to friend me on Poptropica, just add me with the username magicalyre. Go and check out my blog as well (linked above) for more pop-tastic content!

It’s hard to believe that I’m actually going to be writing for this site, but I strive to make each of my posts informative and creative. Stay tuned to the Poptropica Help Blog for Pop news and more from all of us here on the PHB team!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!
