This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Fearless Rider, who first found Poptropica through her sister, and now makes her mark as her own Poptropican. See below for details on sending in your own MPIP!

Hi!!! I’m Marshmallowlilypads, AKA Fearless Rider. (You’ll hear the explanation for the name later!) How are you, PHB readers? Are you ready for My Place In Poptropica? Are you sure? Super sure? Absolutely sure? Positively sure? Totally sure? Okay, I’d better start before you guys leave.

Forbidden Love

My discovery of Poptropica goes way back, second grade to be exact. My one older sister was always the popular one. And… I was the weird one. I always felt like I was in her shadow, always known as “her little sister”. I doubted people even knew my name. My sister was also a trendsetter, and, to be honest, a pretty good one at that. Silly bands, bagged chips, fake nerd glasses – say anything, and my sister could make it a trend. So, when she played Poptropica in the computer lab one day, boom, it spread like wildfire.

My sister would play Poptropica on her computer, and, if she allowed me to, I’d pull a chair up right behind her and watch. Poptropica was awesome back then (and still is!). I’d breathe right over her shoulder, totally mesmerized by the game.

My sister got older, and I’d annoy her more and more, until she eventually banished me from the room when she played. But, when she walked out of the room, I inched myself into the living room and made my first Poptropica account. I forgot the password and username, but I still remember the in-game name: Cuddly Eye. I had to make it up the first chance I got, since my sister was coming back into the room. But, the first time I hopped into that yellow balloon, I fell in love.

It was a forbidden love, if you think about it.

Tab In, Tab Out

Way back then, I had a really bad memory. A terrible memory. I made over 20 accounts because I kept forgetting the usernames and/or passwords. A few months after I made my first account, I took a break. Of course, I forgot my password. So I made a new one. This happened several times, and that’s why I have so many aliases.

I’m not the most talented Poptropica gamer, so I looked up walkthroughs often. And walkthroughs led to… ta da! The PHB! Okay, okay. I’m not going to say that when I started looking at the PHB, I was totally into it and submitted stories and ideas and now I’m a PHB legend! No. That has not happened. At all. When I first started checking out the PHB, I didn’t even look at the comments section.

It was all about the walkthroughs. I would get on an island, look at the tab on my computer that said something like, Ghost Story Island Guide, and do what it said. I don’t know if other people do this, but it’s most efficient for my taste. Yes, it consisted of a lot of tab-switching: tab in, tab out, tab in, tab out. But I ended up finishing ALL of the islands (you know, when all of the islands were open to everyone. I didn’t have a membership back then).

And then, guess what? I forgot my username.

More Recently…

I stopped playing Poptropica for a pretty long time after that. A year, I think. I moved houses, switched schools, and homework got more intense homework… so I didn’t have a lot of time for playing. But soon, I was allowed to do homework in study hall, and Poptropica popped up again (see what I did there?). And when life gives you Poptropica, you find the PHB! Again!

I was older then, and I had my own computer, so I could pretty much go on Poptropica and the PHB all I wanted. I explored more of the PHB, told my friends about it and gave them the link, and played Poptropica more! I finished exactly 30 islands, and I’m still working on Arabian Nights Island.

But when I discovered The POPCORN magazine, it… called to me. Before you call me a freak, I submitted a story to The POPCORN and… it showed up in there! Boom! The Warden’s Daughter by Fearless Rider! I made my signature look, which you can see in the graphic above (my user is Marshmallowlilypads). I posted my first ever PHB comment on White Gamer’s MPIP, and I’m still trying to make my mark on the PHB. Wish me luck!

2010 | Discovery

Hola, Poptropicans! My story begins when I was around 6 years old. I loved adventure games, but I was running out of ones to play. I remember asking my mom to help me find some. We searched, and, eventually, came across Poptropica. I made an account with the username Braden0418, and the password–hey, wait a minute! I’m not telling you my password. 😛 Anyway, my account has never changed since. I made a few other duplicate accounts to test out various outfits, but Braden0418 has always been my main account.

2011 | Island Hopping

In 2011, Poptropica was my favorite game, and I played it every day when I had the time! I mostly explored Common Rooms, hoping to find some exclusive costume parts, and I enjoyed playing the occasional game of Balloons or Sky Dive. I loved asking random Poptropicans conversation questions just to see what their answers were!

I had completed quite a few islands that year, but my current attire was pretty bland. I had a few free costumes from the Store, but none of them seemed to work with my Poptropican. I then realized that you could customize clothing from NPPs (Non-Player Poptropicans), and I went crazy collecting everything I could from the islands that were out at the time. (In late 2015, I would find the perfect outfit for my Poptropican… probably not for long, though!)

2012 | Poptropica Help Blog!

I was having trouble completing an island, and I needed some help. None of my family members played Poptropica, and they weren’t very interested in it at the time. So I did a Google search for “Poptropica island guides,” and there it was. The Poptropica Help Blog. I was immediately hooked, and read pretty much every article that the PHB had. The Cool Stuff page was my favorite, with many glitches and hidden items.

In late 2012, I had discovered a hidden costume glitch (some type of schoolteacher-type shirt, I think) which no longer exists. My costume closet has the outfit somewhere, I believe. After that, I began a “complete all the islands” spree, which lasted around two months.

2013 | Island Tales

Around late 2013, I had all the islands completed… except Skullduggery Island. It’s just SO HARD to get 1,000,000 doubloons. I still haven’t completed it! My favorite island so far has got to be Super Power Island. I love the flight superpower and Ned Noodlehead (also known as Comic Kid). I give the PHB credit for the other island medallions I’ve earned. Couldn’t have done it without you guys! 🙂

I loved reading the PHB’s Poptropican’s 911 magazines as well, and made up my own creative stories inspired by Poptropica. One of my favorites was probably when I pretended to be an undercover Poptropican, trying to stop the evil Dr. Hare from destroying the world with his carrot-ray. I am now writing a story that I’ll call “Project 15k.” Who knows, it might appear on the PHB someday!

2014 | A Carnival Full of Monsters

Monster Carnival island, which was supposed to be released in 2008, was re-released this year, and I was amazed by all the new costumes. Just like when I first discovered customizing, I went crazy trying to find the perfect outfit. I had bought Membership back in 2013, which gave me access to the whole store, Member-exclusive costumes and all!

I remember that I had gotten an epic costume (I believe it was a Ringmaster Raven/Knight mashup) and I went into a Common Room. Every user inside immediately tried to customize my outfit and/or friend me. I let them, because I knew I had some hard-to-obtain costume parts on me.

2015 | Leaving Poptropica

Around July 2015, I discovered a new massively multiplayer adventure and sandbox game: Minecraft. I was so into it that I completely forgot about Poptropica and Funny Ant. That is, until late 2015, when I looked at the PHB just to see if anything was happening… and stuff WAS going on! There were the Meme Face Mondays, PHB author MPIPs, the Avatar Studio Gift, and much more. This prompted me to join Poptropica again, and I remembered all about finding outfits for my Poptropican… so that’s what I did I did. (But, like I said, probably not for long. :P)

I started Project 15k in December of 2015, tying my experience with Poptropica into it. One of the PHB staff has already made a guest appearance–but that’s all I’ll tell you for now. I don’t want to spoil the story! 😛

2016 and Beyond | Making Myself Known

When 2016 began, I made a New Year’s resolution worth keeping: Be a Poptropican that others can look up to. I plan to start a blog filled with the latest Poptropica fashions and other nifty things. Project 15k will hopefully be finished during the summer. It’ll be posted both on the Poptropica blog that I may create soon and, like I said, it just might make an appearance on the PHB.

2010-2011 | Discovery

One day while I was still in kindergarten, I was playing Club Penguin on my family’s computer when my dad arrived home from work. At that time, he was a 6th grade teacher. That day, he had watched some of his students playing Poptropica in the computer lab at his school, and he thought, “Hey, my son would really like this game!” He told me about this cool website that he thought I would like: Poptropica. And like it I did!

As soon as I got on, I made an account. I didn’t know how to save my game, so I made a new account every time I played. I never beat any islands – I was only 5 at the time, so my problem solving skill were not that good. I remember wanting to play Super Power Island, but I didn’t realize that you could walk to the left to get to the prison.

Eventually, I figured out how to save an account. I created the account Abelman14, which is still my current account.

2011 – 2012 | Library & the PHB

At that time, I really hated school. I hated it so much that my parents pulled me out and started to homeschool me, but soon I was complaining that I had no friends. So, my parents brought me to a Lego club at a library. There, I saw a girl playing Poptropica on her laptop, and I naturally went over to watch. I told her about the Multiverse feature and she offered to help me beat Early Poptropica Island. That’s kind of embarrassing but it’s true.

I decided that I was hopeless at trying to beat islands without help, so I googled “Poptropica Help”. You can guess what I discovered then: the PHB! I loved the PHB, and still do. Honestly, it has helped me get through all the islands (except Timmy Failure, which I managed to beat by myself). After that I was on a roll for beating islands! I remember that Astro-Knights took me like, 2 years to beat because of the boss fight against Mordred, which is actually really hard.

2013 – 2014 | Poptropica at School

Well, I played Poptropica for the first time at school in 2013. At first, everyone was like (imagine this in a squeaky, annoying voice): “What the heck is this game?” and “This game looks stupid!”

So after that went on for like 5 minutes, I said, “If you want to know so bad, why don’t you play it for yourself?”

And so, 15 minutes later…

“Ooh ohh… why can’t I get that hair?”

“Hahahaha… I shot a cannonball into the shark’s mouth!”

After that, everyone started playing Poptropica and loved it. I introduced my friends to the PHB, because with some of the tougher islands like Steamworks, you need a little help to finish them. Eventually, though, everyone stopped playing Poptropica – including me. I stopped playing for at least a year.

Late 2015 – present | Experimenting with Glitching

I was really bored on day near the end of December, so I decided to play Poptropica again. I soon learned about the ASG (Avatar Studio Glitch), and I spent the day making awesome costumes with items I never dreamed of having!

Soon after that, the PHB released their Avatar Studio Gift, which was and is awesome! I started to submit my own ASGs to the page. I created pixelpigasg, theringmasterasg, SF#White, SF#Purple, and freememberitem1. I also contacted Red Lizard and he was a great help in teaching me some awesome glitches (not the method used for the Avatar Studio Gift, but awesome nonetheless). So that, my friends, is My Place In Poptropica.

So… I see people telling their stories about how they became a Poptropican with the My Place in Poptropica series on the PHB. And, well…

Early 2008 | Early Poptropican

It all started in first grade, on a weekly class trip to the computer lab. We were all on Funbrain, and most of us were playing the arcade. As me and a few of my friends finished, we saw an ad for Poptropica. I looked at it thinking, “What the flip flap potato tap is this?”

I clicked onto it, made a character, and started playing. I started off playing Super Power Island and jumping around, not really progressing on it at all. I was about to make some progress, actually, if the teacher hadn’t told us to log off right then. Luckily, my family had gotten a new family computer, and I started playing on it for a few weeks doing nothing but making new profiles and jumping around.

Late 2009 | Help Books

One day I had gone to my cousin’s house in a city about two hours away from mine, and showed him Poptropica. He and I had fun playing Poptropica. (We still do, playing Roblox and Xbox and all.) A few weeks passed, his birthday came around, and we celebrated at a local Chuck E. Cheese’s. He opened all his presents, and his final one was a book on how to beat the Poptropica islands, the Poptropica’s Official Guidebook.

I found it so cool that every time I came over, I’d get out that book and actually try to complete a few islands. Then I finally figured out how to make a new account, and thus, a new Poptropica legacy was born. For my username, I just put in two things I could recognize, plus a number – my username being bbgunlight100. Angry Thunder.

Early 2010 & the next five years | Abandonment

With Angry Thunder, I went around completing islands left and right. First Early Poptropica, then Super Power, and then Shark Tooth. And I would’ve completed Big Nate Island before it became members only if it didn’t glitch every time I tried!

I stopped playing Poptropica for a while, then I got back on a few weeks later. When my birthday came around, I got a Nintendo Wii, with lots of games, like Wii Sports, Mario Kart Wii (an all-time favorite), and Wii Play. More time passed, and I got many other gadgets to play with as well. I was so interested in those games that I completely abandoned Poptropica for 5 years. But I still had it in the back of my mind, as just a tiny speck.

Late 2015 | One Simple Spark

The start of 8th grade – and my, how I hate it so far. I got into a semester of A/V, and my group had all finished the project. We had lots of free time, and me and my teammates were bored of all the sites we had been on. Then I had an idea, and I said, “Wait!” I typed in the URL for Poptropica while my team watched, and they were astounded.

I still remembered my username and password, so I logged in and saw that Poptropica had changed a lot. And I thought, “If it changed, I might as well, too.” So I refreshed the page, and made a new account, starting off on Home Island. I didn’t do that island, because I moved on to Super Power Island, but I got all my friends to make characters too. We were Purple Bird, Maroon Moon, Smart Skull, and then mine, the one and only Trusty Bear.

Early 2016 | Poptropica Help Island & Island Completion

I had been on my account once almost every day, playing Poptropica on my mom’s or stepdad’s computer at work before walking to school. I had been getting on the PHB all the time, commenting on new posts, reading the guides, and even having a meme face drawn by UiPE on PMFM!

I decided I would make my own Poptropica blog too, and I had already made a personal blog on WordPress, so I just added a site, and I created Poptropica Help Island. “Bringing you Poptropica Help when you need it!” I had quite a bit of fun with that. Then, on February 23rd, I finally completed all the islands (excluding member-only islands like Big Nate and Wimpy Boardwalk). At last!

I posted on PHI that I was going to make a series called The Adventures of Trusty Bear. (The title is a semi-reference to Giant Hawk Adventures, but I couldn’t come up with a more creative title.) I am starting up the first episode as I go, so if you follow the PHI, check it out! Otherwise, I’m still doing all I can, and having fun while doing so!

Who am I? Well, let’s take it back to when I was a young boy…

Fall of 2008 | Discovery

Back when I was much younger, there were many kids in my after-school program who had a great liking for the game Poptropica. I had an interest in technology and computers even then, and I decided I’d like to give the game a go. Every time I played the game, I would make a new character.

The first few times I played, I just went in to common rooms, walking around, maybe chatting a bit and playing a few games. However, I eventually decided maybe it was time to step it up a notch and try an island. The first island I ever played was 24 Carrot. I never made it very far into the island, but I still enjoyed it a bunch. Eventually, I branched out to new islands, but again, never really progressed far.

2009 | The PHB

Well, eventually, after I was tired of doing nothing productive with Poptropica, I searched up a tutorial on how to beat 24 Carrot. Guess what site I landed on? Yep, ’twas ye old PHB. Funny thing is, I’ve always preferred reading island tutorials over watching them. I know, call me crazy. But after I had beaten 24 Carrot, I was ecstatic, because it had been unfinished for such a long time, and now I had completed it.

I didn’t comment on the blog at the time, but I enjoyed reading up on the island tutorials that were available on the website, even without a WordPress account. For a while, I got bored of Poptropica, so I strayed from it for about a year.

2011 | Membership & My 1st Account

Well, one day, minding my own business, Dr. Memory knocked on the door of my head and sparked the idea center of my brain into remembering Poptropica again. I hadn’t played it in a while, as stated before, so I thought I’d give it a go once more. This time, however, since I was older, I understood the concept of writing down a username and password. So I created my first Poptropica account and decided to get membership for it.

Although this was not my current Grumpy Wolf account, it was the account that I got membership for and that I liked for a long time. Considering there were many new islands released, I headed back over to the PHB, (surprised at the major changes to the site) and looked up more island tutorials. I played for a long while. Sadly, yet again, I left Poptropica one more time.

2013 | The Return & Poptropica Glitches

At this time, I was on vacation for the summer, and Dr. Memory, again, sparked that same old idea again. Since I had brought a laptop with me, I hopped on Poptropica again. But this time, I discovered Keith Sammut’s Weebly site and became completely fascinated with the concept of Poptropica glitches. I remember emailing him in the beginning asking for ASG usernames.

Keith asked me to join him on this chat website called Xat (which is also home of the PHC), which is why I am still on there talking to a few different friends even now in 2016. Anyway, Keith let me in on one or two ASG usernames to start me off, and so began my trail of trading to obtain other glitches and grow my closet to an interesting, fun assortment of brightly colored costumes that were not intended for people to have.

The following year (2014) continued on that path. The only things that happened were me continually expanding my glitched closet and making new friends. I also found out about a bunch of other games that I like to play today.

2015 | The Friend CEG and “The Method”

First, to clarify, CEG means Customize Everything Glitch. Second, to clarify, I will not be talking about how to perform these actions in-game as they are very private secrets. 😛

In mid-2015, I learned from my old friend Keith Sammut (who’s stuck with me for 3 years and counting) about how to do a glitch called the FCEG, or “Friend Customize Everything Glitch.” The glitch allowed you to customize anything off of anyone, as long as they are in your friends list. Alas, the glitch is patched now.

Towards the end of 2015, I was recruited as one of a few people to help out with the PHB’s Avatar Studio Gift while it was in progress. The PHB had been given a secret method by a retired player called Dr. Snowball that allowed one to get any clothing item in the game, and could even given custom names, which is what was used to start the Name Genie. Using this method, I along with a few others worked to make more ASGs available to everyone.

2016 | And Beyond?

Since I discovered the secret method only weeks before the start of 2016, and since this year is very young, there isn’t really much to talk about. However, what lies beyond is a great mystery. I can’t wait to see what the PHB has in store for the future, and also what Poptropica has for us in the coming years.
