Results of the PHB Header Design Contest!

phb header contest

Hello, Poptropicans!

Last month, we announced our first ever PHB Header Design Contest, in which we offered you, dear readers, the chance to come up with a new header image to adorn the top of our site! You can see the winning design up now, where it will stay for the rest of the month of September. That winner is…

GENTLE DOLPHIN!

gentle dolphin

Gentle Dolphin’s winning design places the current authors at an outdoor partyโ€”which gets crashed by the dastardly Dr. Hare, who nabs the banner and a pair of balloons! While Spotted Dragon chases him with a fierce glare, the rest look on in surprise. The facial expressions are especially well done, and I really like how the logos are in the balloons! See it on JordynGowens’ DeviantArt.

As promised, we’re also showcasing other entries that caught our eye. Check them out…

moodytuna

Moody Tuna’s design puts together paper cut-outs of almost every single author that has worked on the PHB, past and presentโ€”you can see about 40 of us in the picture, plus a cute question mark for whoever continues the legacy. The amount of effort this must’ve taken is admirable in itself, and the white paper on the blue backdrop makes for a neat contrast!

purple seagull

Purple Seagull’s design has the current authors sitting around looking at the clouds, which are full of fun features like a peeping Dr. Hare, balloons spelling “Poptropica,” and even a kite caught between them. The overall look is whimsical and cute, exuding feelings of happiness that can be seen on each character’s face, and I’m totally here for it!

We hope you enjoy seeing Gentle Dolphin’s header design throughout the month of September whenever you visit the Poptropica Help Blog!

If these drawings have you inspired, we’ve got another artsy endeavor you can participate in: our monthly Community Creations. This month’s theme is Music! ๐ŸŽถ

Stay tuned for more contests, especially seeing as the Creators have promised more to come in the near future. As always, pop on!

Stick around for September’s sticker winners

Hey Poptropicans, what’s up? ๐ŸŽˆย Are you going batty ๐Ÿฆ‡ย from the lack of updates on Poptropica yet? LOL, aren’t we all! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well, for those of you with iOS devices who text with iMessages, there’s at least one update on the horizon. The Poptropica Stickers app will be getting an update in September, which is in about, um, two weeks (yay!). And you’ll get to send messages like the one above, because those phrases are featured in the winning designs of the #PoptropicaStickers contest!

Congrats to poptropillustraticans, phs_animations, and kawaii99._ on Instagram for having their sticker designs chosen!

To see other entries that didn’t make it, but were still pretty cool, check out the #PoptropicaStickers tag on Instagram.

Feeling artsy? ๐ŸŽจย Here on the PHB, for the month of August, we’ve got two Poptropica art events going: the PHB Header Design Contest and Community Creations (this month’s theme: science). We’d love to see what you come up with!

Announcing the PHB Header Design Contest!

phb header contest

Hello, Poptropicansโ€”it’s Lucky Joker here!

The PHB just celebrated its tenth anniversary last month (pretty incredible, right?). Over the decade of this site’s existence, we’ve had many headers at the top to visually show who we are and what we’re all about.

Now, we want to give you the chance to design our header. That’s right: the PHB is announcing its first ever Poptropica Help Blog Header Design Contest! To get you thinking of ideas, here’s a selection of some of our past headers:

To see more of our past headers, check out this post andย this post.

Here’s what you should know if you’re participating in the contest:

  • To submit an entry, you have several options: email us at staff (at) poptropi (dot) ca, comment on this post with a link to your design, tweet us @Poptropica_Help, tag us on Instagram @PoptropicaHare, or send a private message to me, Lucky Joker, on Discord.
  • The contest ends on August 31, so no entries submitted after that will be considered eligible to win.
  • Submit as many entries as you like!
  • Your header graphic should have a file size of 1180 (width) x 160 (height) pixels, or a ratio equivalent. Otherwise, it may get cropped.
  • Your header graphic should include the words “Poptropica Help Blog” somewhere. Other elements you may choose to include, but are not required, include: a witty tagline (or use ours), our logo, our Poptropicans (you can grab images from the Avatar Studio, and find our usernames on the Friend Finder), the VIP logo (which you can grab from the sidebar) or other images from the game (the Poptropica Clip Collectionย and napstachill’s Digital Wallpapers are great resources for Poptropica graphics).
  • You can create in any medium, whether digitally through illustration, typography, photo manipulation; or traditionally, with pencils, pens, cut-out shapes, and so on; or a pastiche of whatever. If you’re not creating digitally, be sure to retain quality by using a scanner or decent camera in good lighting.

And don’t feel too pressured to make it look like any one of our past headers โ€” be creative! We’re just looking for something that catches our eye.

One winning entry will be selected to be featured as the PHB’s main site header for the entire month of September. We’ll also feature our favorites in a post on the blog.

๐Ÿ€ Good luck, Poptropicans! ๐Ÿ€

Have fun! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Poptropica Stickers Design Contest: Top 3 Soon…

Hey Poptropicans, you’ll want to stick around for this…

Earlier this month, the Pop Creators announced the Poptropica Stickers Design Contest, with submissions closing on July 25. Now, they’ve announced on Instagram: “Weโ€™ve had so many great designs for theย #PoptropicaStickers contest! The Poptropica Creators are reviewing all the entries and will be picking their top 3!

The post came with a gallery of six of the #PoptropicaStickers entries:

It’s possible that these six are finalists, but from the caption of the Instagram post quoted above, it seems like these are just a sampling of the many great entries received, all of which are still being considered. The top 3ย designs chosen will be included in the next update of the new Poptropica Stickers app for iOS Messages.

Hey, notice the Dr. Hare sticker? That entry is from none other than @PoptropicaHare, the PHB’s new Instagram account! Seriously, you should follow the fuzzy pink bunny for more hare-raising adventures… ๐Ÿ˜‰

By the way, don’t forget: today’s the last day to grab your July Member Gifts! If you have an active membership, you’ll automatically receive them when you log in.

Anyway, be sure to check out the hashtag #PoptropicaStickers on Instagram to peruse all the other pop-tastic entries from the contest! Which one’s your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments, and keep popping!

Reflecting on 10 Years of PHB, and a Recap of Poppies 2018 ๐ŸŽ‰

recap poppies2018

A message from Slanted Fish, creator of the PHB

Wow. Ten years. A whole decade of the PHB.

Ten years since a little girl of 11 (me from the past) discovered the untaken WordPress URL that started this blog โ€” poptropica.wordpress.com. Ten years since the release of Super Power Island, the fifth Poptropica island, and the first island to get a guide on the PHB. Ten years since she started blogging about a then-small game and clicking publish, many times overโ€”the words traveling from an apartment in Hong Kong to reach millions of kids all over the world. The rest, as they say, is history.

We’ve shared a lot of fun memories over the yearsโ€”this blog has celebrated inย Poptropica parties like the one we just had, hosted contests (like the Poppies), and gotten to talk with some cool Pop Creators. We’ve brought you exciting news of island releases over 50 times and grieved with you when Poptropica wasn’t shaping up. And we’ve had the delight of sharing your amazing creations,ย makingย meme faces out of your Poptropicans, publishing your guest posts, hanging out on the chat… and more.

Perhaps it sounds clichรฉd, but it’s much more than I dreamed of when I first started blogging. I simply started out of a desire to writeโ€”to help others with the power of words, which I put into guides that, back then, didn’t even have pictures; to share a joy for a simple game that I watched become a pretty big and beautiful enterprise. I couldn’t imagine where it would go, and I still don’t know where it will go. And that’s okay.

Ten years ago a kid who’d just finished elementary school started a website for fellow kids to share in a common joy. Today I’m just a couple of semesters shy of an English degree, in part because this community gave me a platform to nurture a little creativity and love for the written word. And I hope it’s been a place of joy for you, too.

Thank you to every Poptropican out there who’s been a part of the PHB journey. It’s been pretty great, and 32 million views later, we’re still making history. There is good in the world, and we can all be a part of it. Here’s to a poppin’ decade. โค๏ธ

During the party, the PHB staff hosted a livestream to announce the winners of this year’s Poppies. You can revisit it in the video above, or look down for the results:

And the Poppies Awards for 2018 go to…

That’s 10 for 10 years, folks! Thanks for all your nominations, votes, joining us at the partyโ€”and, even if you didn’t do those things, thanks, at least, for being a part of the Poptropica community and our PHB adventures. We’re glad you’re here. ๐Ÿ’™

One visual representation of the wonder of the Pop community is the fan art it produces. To celebrate that, we’re including this gallery of this year’s “Best Fan Art” nominees:

Thanks for popping by on the Poptropica Help Blog!

Here’s to ten years. Cheers. ๐Ÿป
