Pop Fan Artist Spotlights

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: HPuterpop

How’s it going, everyone? It’s Lucky Joker here, and it’s time for another Pop Fan Artist Spotlight! This time I’ll be featuring the works of HPuterpop (HP)โ€”you may remember him from his time here on the PHB.

HP (who also goes by TheKeystone) primarily draws in a simplistic, sort of sketchy styleโ€”but that’s no fault. Even without fancy backgrounds and effects, his art will surely amaze you. Check out this selection of his artwork below (click to enlarge the images):

Impressive, right? I can really see his raw and natural talent, and I’m sure you can as well. If you’d like to see more of his art, check him out on DeviantArt and leave him a birthday wish (today he turns 16)! ๐ŸŽˆ

I hope you liked this look into a Poptropica fan’s artwork! Got any Poptropica fan art of your own? Share it on our DeviantArt group gallery at We-Love-Poptropica!

Alsoโ€”on the topic of artโ€”don’t forget to participate in the two art events (the Header Design Contest and Community Creations) happening on the PHB this month, and be sure to check out the other artists I’ve featured here. Thanks for reading as always, and I’ll talk to you all soon…pop on!

Back Lot Island, Pop Places IRL

Pop Places IRL: Back Lot

Pop Places IRL Header

Hey, how’s it going, Poptropicans? Welcome back to โ€œPop Places IRLโ€! Today we’ll be touring the super stellar streets of Back Lot Island. Let’s pop into it!

Sunset Boulevardย (model for Sunrise Street in Poptropica) is a 22-mile street in Los Angeles, California that stretches all the way from downtown L.A. to Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It has many restaurants, parks, and attractions such as the Cinerama Dome and Will Rogers State Historic Park. I think Poptropica depicts the pizzazz of this famous street pretty well, although there may not be a rabble of crazed paparazzi following you around everywhere you go in real life.

It’s safe to say that Queequeg’s Coffeehouse is based off of Starbucks. You can tell pretty much at first glance. Yes, I knowโ€”Starbucks isn’t exclusive to L.A. or anything but hey, there are a whopping 105 locations in the city, so it’s not hard to find one. I wonder if the creators took the number of locations in L.A. into account being that there are two different Queequeg’s on the same street. Seems feasible, don’t you think?

The TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, is the world’s largest IMAX theatre and is a grail destination for tourists, located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Poptropica portrayal looks very similar to the one IRL!

The newly opened DreamWorks Theatre in the Universal City community of L.A. is already a popular attraction that plays the latest DreamWorks films in 4D! How cool is that? You can see that Poptropica mimicked the DreamWorks logo with the boy on the moon; however, instead of him holding a fishing pole, he’s on a laptop. Maybe playing Poptropica? I have to say I like Poptropica’s parody a little better, hehe.

Madame Tussauds is a very famous tourist attraction in Hollywood that contains over a hundred wax figures of various celebrities from different eras. Among them are Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe. Monroe is one of several figures standing in the lobby, alluring onlooking pedestrians to enter the famous museum.

Well, that about wraps up today’s tour! I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at the comparisons of these marvelous Poptropica scenes as well as their equally marvelous IRL counterparts while learning some things about them.

So, have you visited any of these places? Share your experience in the comments section below. Also, be sure to check out our previous Pop Places IRL posts if you haven’t already! Thanks for reading as always and I’ll talk to you in the next one… pop on!

Pop Fan Artist Spotlights

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: CrazyPaintbrush

Hello, Poptropicans! It’s Lucky Joker here with another Pop Fan Artist Spotlight! Sorry I wasn’t able to post this on the usual Saturday, but better late than never, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ The artist in the spotlight this time around is the very talented and super niceย CrazyPaintbrush!

CrazyPaintbrush is a very active member of our DeviantArt group gallery, We-Love-Poptropica, sharing her insanely cute comics and other drawings. She draws traditionally, which is pretty uncommon among Poptropica fan artists, and I think something worth noting. ๐Ÿ™‚ Check out this collection of her work below (click to enlarge the images):

I really love the bold lining and posing of the characters. What do you think? If you want to see more cute Poptropica art, head on over to her Deviant Art galleryโ€”you’ll find lots of it there!

Well, it’s time for this spotlight to come to a close. I hope you enjoyed this look into a Poptropica fan’s artwork! If you’ve made any of your own, weโ€™d love for you to share it to our DeviantArt group gallery.ย Don’t forget to check out the other artists I’ve featured here as well, and I’ll talk to you all soon. Contests

Announcing the PHB Header Design Contest!

phb header contest

Hello, Poptropicansโ€”it’s Lucky Joker here!

The PHB just celebrated its tenth anniversary last month (pretty incredible, right?). Over the decade of this site’s existence, we’ve had many headers at the top to visually show who we are and what we’re all about.

Now, we want to give you the chance to design our header. That’s right: the PHB is announcing its first ever Poptropica Help Blog Header Design Contest! To get you thinking of ideas, here’s a selection of some of our past headers:

To see more of our past headers, check out this post andย this post.

Here’s what you should know if you’re participating in the contest:

  • To submit an entry, you have several options: email us at staff (at) poptropi (dot) ca, comment on this post with a link to your design, tweet us @Poptropica_Help, tag us on Instagram @PoptropicaHare, or send a private message to me, Lucky Joker, on Discord.
  • The contest ends on August 31, so no entries submitted after that will be considered eligible to win.
  • Submit as many entries as you like!
  • Your header graphic should have a file size of 1180 (width) x 160 (height) pixels, or a ratio equivalent. Otherwise, it may get cropped.
  • Your header graphic should include the words “Poptropica Help Blog” somewhere. Other elements you may choose to include, but are not required, include: a witty tagline (or use ours), our logo, our Poptropicans (you can grab images from the Avatar Studio, and find our usernames on the Friend Finder), the VIP logo (which you can grab from the sidebar) or other images from the game (the Poptropica Clip Collectionย and napstachill’s Digital Wallpapers are great resources for Poptropica graphics).
  • You can create in any medium, whether digitally through illustration, typography, photo manipulation; or traditionally, with pencils, pens, cut-out shapes, and so on; or a pastiche of whatever. If you’re not creating digitally, be sure to retain quality by using a scanner or decent camera in good lighting.

And don’t feel too pressured to make it look like any one of our past headers โ€” be creative! We’re just looking for something that catches our eye.

One winning entry will be selected to be featured as the PHB’s main site header for the entire month of September. We’ll also feature our favorites in a post on the blog.

๐Ÿ€ Good luck, Poptropicans! ๐Ÿ€

Have fun! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
