Ignited by membership axe, Poptropicans protest game’s decline 🙅‍♀️

Hey Poptropicans — you may have seen our recent news on how Poptropica has removed paid memberships and the follow-up where they made all previously members-only content free. 🤔

In all the hubbub, many are fearing that this could mean curtains for the game — a sentiment echoed across X (formerly known as Twitter), with high engagement on our recent post about the news. 👀

Tons of engagement on the post — showing tons out there still care.

So far, the tweet has garnered 2.7 million views, 600+ retweets, 1.2K likes, and 400+ saves — much higher than our usual stats on the social media platform. It’s also attracted over 70 replies, with many fearing the game’s end and calling for Poptropica not to shut down.

As dire as the news may sound, the fact that so many fans are making noise is an optimistic sign that there’s still a sizable community out there that cares about Poptropica. And if you count yourself among them, we encourage you to voice your thoughts, too! 📣

You can leave a comment on this blog post, on our tweet, on our Discord server, or share your story in a ‘My Place in Poptropica‘ or other guest post. Let the Poptropica Creators know what the game means to you and encourage them to keep it going. 🏝️ We’ll keep on poppin’ on!

  1. Rather ironic that one of the things I disliked the most about Poptropica now being axed is a sign for Poptropica’s end. Not to sound pessimistic, but given how infrequent anything new comes to Pop, especially the islands which were its main sauce, I couldn’t help but feel Pop would’ve come to an end sooner or later. This is also why I decided to move on a few years back. And now with pretty much Pop’s main source of monetization being shut down, I’m kind of ready for it. A real shame too because this is coming from a long time veteran ever since 2008 (15 years ago). Maybe someone ambitious and skilled enough could make a fan-reboot or something if the time comes.

Maybe Poptropica won’t die, but idk how much is enough. We’ll see where this goes.

  2. When I first heard about Pop’s rumored shut-down, my immediate reaction was, “What can I do? How can I help?” This game was everything to me as a kid, and I still enjoy playing from time to time and being a part of this community. I would honestly drop everything and go work for Poptropica if it means saving this game. I have seen how much this game means to this community, and I’m not ready to let it go. Creators, if you’re listening, what can we do to help?

    1. Yes! I agree! Pop creators, if you ever stumble upon this comment, know that theres a fandom full of people who would hate to see it go, and would do anything to help prevent it.

  3. No i hope not..it was the only game that helped me out of boredom in covid 2020, since then i have loved this game.
However, due to the lack of updates it was clear that the end is coming. So I share my comment, to the Poptropica creators, i care.

  4. I do know that Poptropica is an old game, and it’s starting to fade, but Poptropica Creators, if you ever see these comments, you need to know that we’ll still be the Poptropica Community no matter what happens. We’ll be Poptropica’s eternal flame . And if we can still do something, please let us know what. We are here for Poptropica. For the past, the present and the future.

  5. The only reason I assumed the game might be shutting down is because in the past, some other games that I used to play, like Monkey Quest, had given everyone free permanent membership during the final 6-ish months before a full shut down. Thankfully, though, if the game does shut down, we do have the flashpoint that has preserved the majority of the islands 🙂
And I really hope Pop doesn’t shut down of course. Been playing since I was 9 years old.

What's popping, Poptropicans?
