FADE IN.

INT. MOREAU AND Dโ€™S OFFICE

We open on the middle of a conversation between a GUARD and DIRECTOR D. and MOREAU, both of whom are at their desks.

GUARD

Iโ€™m going to be honest, itโ€™s a really tricky situationโ€ฆ

(conโ€™t)

I do think some of them can be helped, itโ€™s just a matter of who.

DIRECTOR D. nods thoughtfully.

DIRECTOR D.

Yesโ€ฆhelp the ones who are hurting the most but will be the hardest to change, or those who have committed lesser crimes and may ease into society better?

(He takes a glance at the notes placed on MOREAUโ€™S desk.)

Thanks for giving us more information, it will help.

MOREAU

Please, let us know if there is anything else we can do.

(conโ€™t)

Our schedule is quite open today.

The GUARD leaves, shutting the door behind him.

MOREAU and D. wait a few more seconds, then burst out cackling.

MOREAU

Ah, help them! Like any of them can be!

DIRECTOR D.

Theyโ€™re perfectly useful as they are if you know how to dangle a carrot in front of their faceโ€“literally for Harvey.

MOREAU stands, and walks to the window, gazing out at the open ocean with no land in sight. It was a great challenge to get there on a secured helicopter ride, but any escape would be near impossible, even if security was breached.

MOREAU

What is that Dr. Jupiter up to?

DIRECTOR D.

Not him again.

MOREAU turns her back to the window, facing D.

MOREAU

Iโ€™m serious.

(conโ€™t)

Heโ€™s been just as interested in them as we are. And why such a focus on such a small group?

DIRECTOR D.

What if this is just some big rehabilitation program? He wants to โ€œsaveโ€ the worst of the worst to make him and Erewhon look so much better.

(He leans forward, chewing on the end of a pen)

Weโ€™re going to have to find some way to get them out of here.

MOREAU

If Widow canโ€™t find one, then there isnโ€™t.

DIRECTOR D.

Ah but sheโ€™s another prisoner, not a guard or employee. Iโ€™m sure we could find some way around, or Iโ€™m not a super spy!

CUT TO a montage of scenes of D. intentionally trying to damage prison security, always with at least one prisoner walking past.

Near a large window:

DIRECTOR D.

(faking to stumble at a coffee table, causing it to fall and crack the glass)

Oh no! Iโ€™m sorry, I didnโ€™t mean to break anything.

Looking down from the ceiling, near a security camera:

The camera swivels back and forth, and when it’s turned away from DIRECTOR D.’S position, he shoots it at the base connecting it to the wall.

DIRECTOR D.

Argh, this cameraโ€™s going haywire again!

At the prison doors:

DIRECTOR D. sneakily burns one of the wires controlling the closing mechanism.

DIRECTOR D.

Uh oh! Looks like the door is stuck!

Another set of emergency doors closes behind him, blocking the exit. DIRECTOR D. groans quietly.

CUT TO MOREAU and D. sitting against the wall outside the lunch hall.

MOREAU

So, what was this โ€œsuper spyโ€ thing?

DIRECTOR D.

Shut up.

Pause. DIRECTOR D. looks up at the clock.

DIRECTOR D.

When is lunch, again?

MOREAU

In about an hour.

(She looks at him, and points toward the window looking into the lunch room)

You donโ€™t want anything from in there, do you?

DIRECTOR D. smiles, twisting his head to look through the window.

DIRECTOR D.

Not at all, but I know some who might appreciate the company in there.

CUT TO MOREAU and D.โ€™S office again, where a guard stands in front of their desks, dumbfounded.

GUARD

You want the big four back in the main lunch room?

(conโ€™t)

W-with all due respect, we can barely keep them under control when thereโ€™s just one of them!

DIRECTOR D.

Yes, yes, butโ€“

(He holds up a finger when the guard tries to interrupt)

We think some of this aggression might come from theirโ€ฆisolation, and some have been kept alone long before they even came here!

(MOREAU pulls out a sheet of paper from under her desk)

MOREAU

It says here that โ€œthe Binary Bardโ€ experienced 20 years alone on a strange planet, before he made an attack on the kingdom of Arturus. Correct?

(The GUARD nods)

Think about it; their loneliness could be making all this worse. The prison has so far had no major escape attempts, why not at least try this?

The GUARD bites his lip, looking down at the floor.

GUARD

True, butโ€“

Another guard, who was standing near DIRECTOR Dโ€™S desk, speaks up.

GUARD #2

Iโ€™d say we give it a chance, theyโ€™ve talked it over with Jupiter and he said itโ€™s possible.

GUARD #1 rolls his eyes.

GUARD #1

Fine. But youโ€™ve only been here for a while, you donโ€™t know what these guys are capable of.

GUARD #1 leaves. When the door shuts, GUARD #2 gives MOREAU and D. a thumbs-up. He has the same shiny head as all of DIRECTOR D.โ€™S agents and fake guards.

MOREAU

No respect!

DIRECTOR D.

But weโ€™ve got it rolling. Now to see the real chaos happen!

MOREAU

(chuckles)

Itโ€™s amazing the things people will do when they think youโ€™re on their side.

They’re baaaacck!
