Release Dates

Hi Gs,

This post is dedicated to release dates of Poptropica… you may find it boring. 😉

output_BiyxUv

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always felt like Poptropica had two teams of people making islands at one point.  In my opinion, back in the olden days (like a couple years ago) when Poptropica was making islands like they were out of style, there was a sort of pattern in the island releases.

It started with Shrink Ray island.  Even though I like it, it still isn’t a great island.  Then Mystery Train (good), Game Show (bad), Ghost Story (good), S.O.S. (bad), Vampire’s Curse (good), Twisted Thicket (bad)… of course, this is purely my opinion.

I’ll stop judging after that, because the pattern is inconsistent afterwards.  What do you think about my theory?

Here’s a nice piece of information: most of the old islands have already been remodeled.  How do I know?  Check out this xml file.  It is a list of all the islands that have been updated: http://static.poptropica.com/game/data/game/game.xml

That’s a lot of islands.  And they’re not all on there, so it isn’t just a list of islands to be updated.  Do you remember my failed prediction that Spy Island would be the next updated?  I made the prediction because the island, as far as I could tell, had already been uploaded.  Basically, what I’m saying is, we might be able to track the Creator’s schedule of releasing these SUIs.

Time Tangled was announced to be the next updated November 20, and was released December 10.  That’s a 30 day period in between there.  Coincidence?  I think not.

Thirty days from the time Mythology Island was announced to be updated would be February 7.  I might be wrong, but expect it to be that day.  And Creators, if you choose to change the date just to prove me wrong, I respect that. 😛

Also, it seems like Poptropica may have a language setting in the future!  Check out the .swf file for the SUI settings menu: http://static.poptropica.com/game/assets/ui/settings/settingsPanel.swf

There are four different language settings to choose from!  From what I can tell, it isn’t a released feature yet, but this sure is cool! 😀

Mocktropica Bonus Quest Review

Hi Gs,

The Bonus Quest for Mocktropica, or “Bonus Bots” as everyone has been calling it, was released very recently.  I have played it, and my feelings are mixed.

ahah

The Story

banana

The premise is that one of Poptropica’s best programmers, Mark Hertz, has been lost to the game Mega Fighting Bots.  When I say lost, I mean he has become obsessed with it, and won’t do anything other than it — I discussed the same issue concerning Minecraft in my live stream. 😉 Anyway, not only has he become obsessed, he has morphed into the game, and become evil.  He is the final boss you have to battle.

The picture to the right is an email sent from Mark.  A little easter egg is hidden in the email.  Mark’s outro is “-Sent from my SmartTec Bananaphone“.  Bananaphone is a fun, popular kids song, you should really check it out. 😛

The Gameplay

Well, here’s the deal — all you do in the bonus quest is play Mega Fighting Bots.  There is a cool “real life” Bucket Bot, that is animated, but other than that, that’s all it’s got!  But what do I think of it?  I thought it was actually pretty fun!  You see, when you hack into the game, you get unlimited coins.  That means that you can respawn after the three rounds!  Infinitely!  And, you get to battle different bosses than just Safety Bot.  Also, the bots have commentary!  Little remarks before and after the rounds appear, and most of them are pretty humorous.  Each bot has a different difficulty and style of fighting.  To best these bots, the tips are below. 😉

– Safety Bot

The first bot you are to battle.  Surprisingly, this was the bot that took me the longest to finish.  He is very cautious, and avoid most attacks.  Very annoying.  Here’s a little tip I used to best not only him, but all the bots (click to animate):

other

Wait for him to come around the bend, then attack!  Even more, you can lure him by standing in the corner, and then when he starts to come toward you, go down a square, to where I was in the gif.  (actually, he is the only bot that the tip doesn’t fully work on… >.<)

Repeat this again and again — it really works!  Believe it or not, I didn’t die ONCE in the whole game, and after Safety Bot, I only spent two rounds on all the bots (you have to beat the bots two rounds to win — I only had to go into the final round ONCE)!

 – Ad Bot

Ad Bot is quicker than Safety Bot.  She is also not the smartest in many ways.  If you keep attacking her from a corner, she’ll keep coming back for more.  Although, she can be tricky.  Be sure she is in your target zone before you attack — she changes directions quickly.

mwhaha

 – Shredder Bot

Easily ticked.  Has a bit of a temper.  She hurts… a lot.  Hard to defeat.  She will come at you with different angles.  She has a broader strategy.

mwhahaa

 – Focus Bot

He is very smart.  Out of them all, he’s really easy.  Just use the corner tactic.  He is not hesitant like Safety Bot.  When he comes at a different angle, he will follow through.

mwahahah

– Mega Bot

Surprisingly, this bot was the easiest for me.  He is the lost programmer, Mark Hertz.  Of course, he is the biggest, fastest, strongest, and smartest.  And he is appropriately named. 😉

mwahahahahaha

Once you defeat Mega Bot, he will get thrown out of the ring!  You have brought back the lost programmer!

So the question is: was this bonus quest worth the price of Membership?  Is it a bargain?

After you both are transported back home, you get a little present from the now famous Bucket Bot.  It’s a terrific Bucket Bot costume!

yaybucket bot

The fun is the quality here, and I had fun.  I also got a rocking costume.  I rate this bonus quest 3 stars.  Unlike the VHI Bonus Quest, this didn’t have a separate soundtrack.  It did, however, have an awesome real life Bucket Bot, and a new background.  And, you get unlimited coins.  Not that I used any. 😛

Also, there is a little symbolism in the bot’s rank.

The Safety Inspector is on floor 1.  Safety Bot is the first bot you battle.

The Ad Sales Manager is on floor 2.  Ad bot is the second bot you battle.

“Slash” is on floor 3.  Shredder Bot is the third bot you battle.

Then, the whole thing flips around —

The Focus Tester is on the main floor.  Focus Bot is the fourth bot you battle.

And, to make sense of all of this, Mark Hertz is in the basement.  Mega Bot is the final bot you battle.  Well played, Creators. 😉

Daily Pop Sneak Peeks

I Foresee Strangeness

I speak the truth, ladies and gentlemen! Strangeness lies ahead!

Disclaimer: What is below adds up to absolutely nothing

The Creators sure are going out of their way to be confusing with their Daily Pop sneak peeks.

First let’s take a look at this picture:

rubduk

What do you see above? I see two ducks in a perfect circle of water in some grass with rocks. The caption reads, “Let’s give this another try and see if we can goose some numbers.” What? Doesn’t make much sense to me.

Now the key here is the shape of the water. It’s obviously outside but can’t be a pond because it’s a perfect circle. So for now we’ll say it’s a bowl.

And there’s also the question of whether the ducks are real or rubber. Looks to me like rubber because the Creators typically exaggerate eyes in all their characters.

Last thing: the caption says “Let’s give this another try” so that leads me to believe this will be some type of mini-game.

So we’ve got a game involving rubber ducks in a bowl outside. Wow, I really dissected that thing.

Next:

rx

First thing’s first: The caption says “The Perfect Prescription.” Rx is the universal symbol for prescription medicine. This “thingy” is sitting on top of a roof. A power line stretches behind it.

So what is it? A chimney or a sign. Or something else? If it’s a sign, it’s probably for a drug store. If it’s a chimney, that’s just really weird. So is whatever this place is selling, because you see what’s popping out of it? Stars and stuff.

You know, I can’t say I have much of an explanation here. It’s kind of weird.

That’s all for today, Poptropicans. Two Sneak Peeks explained. (For the most part.) That’s what I do, so enjoy my facts. 😀 Adios!

Poptropican Portraits

Poptropican Portraits Round 4

Hi Gs,

For two long weeks you loyal peezles have waited on Poptropican Portraits Round 4… and finally, they are here.

portraits logo

I told everyone that I would release them yesterday, but with all the excitement about the Poptropican’s 911, I decided to postpone the release. 😉  I hope everyone is satisfied with their portraits.  If you don’t see yours in there, just tell me in the comments. 😉

Just a reminder that I won’t be doing anymore portraits for the next two weeks, so don’t bother requesting any on this post.  I’ll release a request post when the time comes (BTW you might need to remind me when the time does come 😛 ).

In the mean time, take advantage of the Poptropican Portraits leave.  I’ll have more time to do special requests, logos, and other miscellaneous art favors.  Send me an email at [email protected]

In other news, the Daily Pop post for tomorrow will probably be this image (thanks raqk! :D) —

Mocktropica Island

I’m friends with the monster…..

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with another little piece of scoop, as well as a review of the Mocktropica bonus quest.

First of all, I guess we should get into the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The day you’ve dreamt of! The pinnacle of-

Blake! Stop stalling and get on with it!

Fine. So yeah, Mocktropica bonus quest. Woooo….

First of all, note, please, I am NOT a Poptropica member. I tried to get it with my Visa gift card from Christmas, but it won’t take it. Okay, so now for the actual quest. I got a pretty good idea of what might happen if you go to the quest: and as it turns out, I was right.

So, you start off in a Mega Fighting Bots arena. You meet Bucket Bot, the ‘scrap heap they send in every time a new player registers.’ You have to win 3 rounds with Bucket Bot, with the traditional Mortal Kombat statistics:

1st Round Win + 2nd Round Loss + Final Round Win = Win
1st Round Loss + 2nd Round Win + Final Round Win = Win

So after that, you win the Bucket Bot outfit. I didn’t particularly like this quest. Now, onto the less exciting weekend Daily Pops. These Pops feature a pharmacy, as well as that little game you play at the carnivals where you pick a duck and win a prize. Carnivals. As well as the monsters from earlier in the month. Could it be?

3000years

Monster Carnival… It’s been 3,000 years…

Okay, so nobody but Pokemon fans will get that. So anyway, this is Blake, signing off!

N-No way… I actually managed to make it to the end of the post… Without a pun!

Newswoman: How does it feel?

Well, I would probably say the effects of this glee really POPPED out at m- DANGIT!
