CYDI runner-up #9: Stormchaser Island

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced the 9th runner-up of CYDI (Create Your Own Dream Island) contest! The island was Stormchaser Island, submitted by Laura S. of Virginia!

Wow! A weather island! Not my favorite, but it sounds kind of cool! I wonder what it was gonna be like? Here’s why the Creators liked the idea:

The pitch: Your Poptropican travels alongside one of Poptropica’s most famous meteorologists and tracks a dangerous series of storms.

Why we liked it: “This is gold,” someone said when reading Laura’s entry, and nobody disagreed. What an exciting idea! In Stormchaser Island, players would travel the hemisphere trying to discover the source of increasingly powerful storms. Our sound effects team would love to take on this challenge!

…Now, this is sounding way cooler! And it confirms that Poptropica does have a sound effects team! This island idea is just getting better, and better, and better. Anyway, here’s a snippet of the interview with Laura (Blue Horse) – you can read the rest on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?

Laura: I spent a lot of time thinking about my idea, and after a few tries, it just came to me!

Wow, Laura! You are really imaginative! If you’re reading this, the PHB would love to hear more about your island idea. Anyway, that’s all for now!

PHB Sneak Peeks, Sneak Peeks, Survival Island

Survival Ep. 4: description & name revealed!

Hey everyone! I just went go check the Survival tour page, and I noticed that a description has now been added for Episode 4! Here’s what it says:

Your rescuer offers a hot meal and a comfy bed, but you’re not his guest – you’re a prisoner. Can you escape the wilderness lodge before his next hunt begins?!

siep4

Sounds a lot like our Van Buren theory, inspired by General Zaroff in the short story The Most Dangerous Game! Of course, we already knew about this. The name of Episode 4 is Cabin Fever, which has not yet been updated on the Survival tour page – but we know this from a look at Poptropica’s code:

siep41

This can be used to find new and unreleased Poptropica pics and details – as you can see from the sample above, Episode 4: Cabin Fever involves a bear claw, security code, empty pitcher, full pitcher, and some tainted meat. Stay tuned to the PHB, where we’ll be uncovering more in an upcoming entry of the Survival Files!

Mission Atlantis Island

Mission Atlantis: Puffer Fish costume & Ep. 2 coming soon!

Hey everyone! The Creators just released a members-only Puffer Fish costume in the Store for Episode 2 of Mission Atlantis, Fortress of the Deep! This costume is amazing! I wish it had a power that would let you prick people though. 😛

Maipart21

Now that Mission Atlantis: Episode 2’s members’ bonus item, desktop wallpaper, and printable poster have been released, Episode 2 should be here pretty soon! My prediction is that it will come out either next week Thursday (June 5) or next next Thursday (June 12), as islands tend to come out on Thursdays. I really hope the next installment of Mission Atlantis (guide here) will be great!

Stay tuned to the PHB for an upcoming sneak peek post for Episode 2 of Mission Atlantis. We’ll feature lots of the new areas, items, and dialogue from the island, so be prepared for spoilers! 😀

How to Train Your Dragon 2: Poptropica ad

Hey Poptropicans, there’s a new ad building around Poptropica for the upcoming Dreamworks animated movie How to Train Your Dragon 2, coming in 3D starting June 13! I found this on Main Street of Mythology, and it’s a common room too, so you can chat and battle with other players!

As you can gather from the collage, there’s quite a bit to explore – on the left, you can watch a trailer, read the movie’s synopsis, customize from two dummies with cool berserker costumes, and claim two power cards: Dragon Ride (which places your Poptropican on Toothless the dragon) and Hiccup Flight (which shows Hiccup zooming around on a dragon).

On the right, you get to click on two different games to play, both of which will lead you to a new tab – How to Fly Your Dragon and The Dragon Trainer Matching Challenge. You can also click on a catapult with a sheep on it to fling it and conjure up some dragons.

(UPDATE!) There’s also a video ad in between places (such as underwater on Mission Atlantis) for Dragons: Defenders of Berk (Part 2), now on DVD. (This is a series related to the How to Train Your Dragon films.) Watch the video, and you’ll be awarded Hiccup’s Shield, which “protects you from fire” (see images below) when you press the spacebar. Basically, it summons some glowing blue light which swirls around your shield for a moment. /end update

Hiccup's Shield

On a different note, a Poptropican named Zippy Berry was featured today on the Creators’ Blog because she “made it through to tomorrow’s semifinals in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.” I don’t know who she is, but she must have some special connection to at least one of the Creators to get such a mention on the official blog! Well, whoever you are, Zippy Berry, congratulations. 🙂

Anyway, don’t forget that this Sunday we’ll be publishing the next issue of the PHB magazine, now known as POPCORN! We’re accepting entries at phbpopcorn(at)gmail.com (at = @).

Pop in later, Poptropicans! 😀
