Poptropican Portraits: details for the season 1 finale livestream

Hi Gs,

As stated recently, I’m going to be hosting a livestream as a finale for season 1 of Poptropican Portraits — and the details are decided!ย This event also coincides with the PHB’s Poptropica party this Saturday for our recent milestone of 12 million hits, so we hope you can make it for a couple hours of fun on the PHC, Poptropica, and Google+! ๐Ÿ˜€

yoyoyo

The livestream and Poptropica party will be on the 14th of June (3 days from now), and will start at 4pm EST, ending at 6pm EST. The reason for the extra hour is because this livestream will be a little different than the rest — I’m going to be drawing 4 of the creators in real life as Poptropicans!

As for special guests, yes there will be two of them. Because I’m not going to be drawing Poptropicans from the community, there’s no username form, but you can vote below to choose the 4ย Poptropica Creators you want to be seen drawn! You’ll find the livestream here when the time comes. ๐Ÿ˜›

Again, thisย will be happening along with the PHB’s Poptropica party for our dozen million hits, so come out to watch the Poptropican Portraits livestream on Google+ as well as chat with Poptropicans on the PHC and hang out in Multiverse rooms!

I’ll see you there! ๐Ÿ™‚

Cynopsis nomination for live maps & comic creators revealed!

Hey Poptropicans! You may know about Poptropica’s World Champions live player maps, which were introduced last year with the release of Virus Hunter Island, and which you can use to check your rank for finishing an island in comparison to players across the globe…

Well, the Creators recently announced that this feature has gotten them a nomination for theย Cynopsis Kids !magination Award, which is pretty cool! The awards program is “judged by a panel of industry experts” – let’s hope Poptropica finishes first! ๐Ÿ˜€

By the way, if you have not yet checked your ranks for Survival, there’s a different map per episode: click here for Episode 1, here for Episode 2, and here for Episode 3. Also, if you’re experiencing some glitches in Episode 3, click here for HP’s post, which may offer some solutions.

—————————————-

If you’ve been keeping up with the “Poptropica” comics on the Daily Pop orย Creators’ Blog, you’ll know the series is now on week 6 – but if you’ve checked out the PHB’s Comics page, you’ll know you can read up to week 8! Plus, Funbrain stores some Popย comic strips as well.

Anyway, Poptropica’s official comic series is now being published on a website called GoComics as well – and they’ve credited the comic’s creators, who we now know are Paul Gilligan and Kory Meritt!

As it turns out, both of them are already published comic creators on GoComics! Paul Gilligan does a series called Pooch Cafe, while Kory Merritt heads a comic called Lost Side of Suburbia, which also has a place on Funbrain.

Interestingly, GoComics’s page for Poptropica includes some links to Poptropica on the web, including the official Facebook page! There’s also a little blurb about the comic series as well as intros for the main characters, Oliver and Jorge. Enjoy the comics! ๐Ÿ˜€

Glitches, Merchandise, PHB Sneak Peeks

Forgotten toys, the evolution of Poptropica, and hidden findings!

Hi Gs,

I’ve been inactive for a while, but that’s about to change — I’m now on summer break! Prepare for more HP than you ever asked for… ๐Ÿ˜›

Forgotten Toys

Am I just really uninformed? I was searching through Poptropica photos on Google finding fan art for the Popcorn, when I came across this image:

forgottenToys

From a first glance, this seems normal — it’s just a picture of some of the Poptropica toys in a store… But before you write a nasty comment talking about how we wasted your time, take a second look:

forgottenToy

Wait, there’s a Rock Star toy?! Also, the green coins that have redemption codes on the back are apparently gold in this picture!

You may recall that the Rock Star outfit was removed from the store mysteriously, and is now considered a rare item — but now it makes sense! Because they were going to release a Rock Star toy, they deleted it from the store and probably were going to make it the redeemable card for the toy. But why wasn’t it released? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Evolution of Poptropica

No, this isn’t another “A Pop Down Memory Lane”. Instead, I want to talk about the logo, the motto, and the terminology of Poptropica. First, the logo. When Poptropica started back in 2007, it had the same logo on the homepage that it has always had — but another logo with similar features has risen and is used outside of the game, in logos and more.

First, my thoughts: personally, I like the new logo better. It seems more “poppy” so to speak. As for who designed it, I presume it was designed by the trailer maker for Poptropica, Tyson Burnham, as he was the first to use this logo in his videos.

Secondly, the motto of Poptropica seems to have changed outside of the game — on the homepage, the motto is “Exploreย โ€ข Collectย โ€ข Compete”. However, seen on a banner on the Island Creator Kit book page, the motto is “I am what I play.” To be honest, the latter one sounds pretty awesome (and accurate). ๐Ÿ˜›

popEvo2

Thirdly, the phrase “island”. First noted by Poptropica Secrets, the term “island” after the island name is seemingly becoming extinct. She muses that the first island ever, Early Poptropica, also didn’t hold the island title, but that was probably because they hadn’t decided about island titles yet.

Lately, Islands have been losing the island title, and episodic adventures aren’t going to have the island title either. The last “island” was Virus Hunter Island — even MCI is officially MC! I can see where some islands don’t sound right with the island title (e.g. Mission Atlantis Island), but to do away with the (iconic) phrase completely isn’t a good idea. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Is Poptropica Phasing Out the โ€œIslandโ€?

Old, Hidden, and Strange

I recently posted about a “Monster Adventure” logo that was found while searching through the files of Poptropica via the “JPEXS Flash Decompiler”, but I found more than just that. First, I found a picture possiblyย relating to Monster Carnival — along with classic Poptropica “pow”s and “sting”s was “Raarrr!”. This has never been used in an island, so what is it doing there?

roar.

The tiny picture below is of two Poptropicans running — and it’s also filed next to the Sky Dive game picture. Obviously there was supposed to be a race minigame, and I would rather enjoy the feature. Also, this very same type of mini-game was done in Poptropica Adventures for the DS.

Including Monster Adventure, there’s many strange things in this file —ย tell me what you think of these in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

Upcoming Survival Costume

An upcoming item will be released to the store soon — a fishing suit. Yes, it was obtainable in Survival: Episode 2, but it looks like it’s going to be an actual item in the Store. Plus, it’s free! (just like in the episode… ๐Ÿ˜› )

Are you ready for the Poptropican Portraits Season 1 finale livestream? Details come tomorrow!

Glitches, Survival Island

Quick Survival Ep. 3 glitch alerts & fixes

Hi Gs,

There are a couple of glitches concerning Survival: Episode 3 that I wanted to mention, mainly because they’re preventing people from finishing the island…

The first glitch is the lemon glitch, and it occurs when you break the lemon box onto the ground. You won’t be able to click on the lemon and obtain it no matter what. To fix this, go to another scene, such as the nearby ad street, then come back. It will have reset, and you can pick up the lemon.

1111

The second is a little harder to fix — it happens when you try to assemble the radio while on the radio tower scene. When you do, the wires that are necessary to fix it don’t show up. Try logging out and back in, then trying to assemble it on a different scene. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to restart the episode and assemble the radio in a different areaย than the radio tower.

If you have any more game-breaking glitches, share them with us in the comments. You can also find the Survival: Episode 3 guide here on the PHB.ย Hope this helps!

Monster Carnival Island, The Missing Link

The Missing Link: Monster Adventure

Hi Gs,

Am I back to talk about Monster Carnival? Not quite. I’m here to talk about an explanation to a mystery about Monster Carnival – but it goes deeper than just that.

strangeMonsterAdventureThe image above was found inside the “gameplay” file for Poptropica – back in the day, they used to keep a lot in that file, including unreleased material. First of all, acknowlegde that the “Monster” text used in the logo is the same font used in the Fact Monster logo. That’s where things start to get interesting…

monsterA1As some of you may recollect, there was a plethora of unreleased monster costumes that were leaked quite a long time ago. This was before the store, and so many people believed that they were for the forgotten Monster Carnival island (read the full story here). This may not have been the case. View the image below — see the (uncanny) resemblance between the last two images?

monsterA2There were obviously plans with Fact Monster in the primary years of Poptropica — remember the Fact Monster bubbles in Time Tangled Island, the island which was supposed to be followed by Monster Carnival island? And did you notice that the bubbles were taken out in the updated version? Almost like covering up tracks…

monsterA3The last point is the creator. Fact Monster is the only creator not to be found in an island — and he’s a real creator with a real life personnel, Jess M. Brallier. What I’m getting at is that there might have been a Fact Monster character in an island, and they had just never released the island, thus never releasing the character. The special prefix “Fact Monster” is owned by a number of accounts, mainly “dummy1063“, previously thought to be the creator’s account, but later found to be owned by PHB viewer, Pixel. The fact (no pun intended) that Fact Monster is a prefix proves that there were once plans for a Fact Monster character… And by the way, the Fact Monster prefix shows up in friends, so that means it passes through a special name filter for only creator accounts.

monsterA4“Monster Adventure” may have been a preliminary Monster Carnival, but what if Monster Adventure was an island or mini-quest based around Fact Monster? The leaked monster outfits have the likeness of Fact Monster (actually, one of the costumes is an exact replica), and the logo uses the same font that the Fact Monster uses. ย This still doesn’t solve the mystery, but it sure makes the answer a lot brighter. What do you think? Tell me in the comments. ๐Ÿ™‚
