Now Playing in Theaters: What Even Are All These Videos??

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here to make a splash on the silver screen!

new2bmovie2btheater2bon2bpoptropica2521

The big news of the day is that the Movie Theater on Home Island, which appeared a week ago, is now open for business! The sign is glimmering, and the door is open, so head on in. Inside, you’ll find a little room with a bright sign leading you into the theater. (Wait, where are the concessions?)

Once you click there, a video player will pop up, and the movies will begin! However, the movies aren’t anything we predicted in our previous post about the theater. Instead, this is a collection of kiddy videos – fun, educational, and everything in between – that a few of the Creators picked out for everyone.

(Notes: If you have AdBlock on, you’ll need to deactivate it on Poptropica in order for the videos to play. To see the videos without logging in, click here – thanks to idk for the link.)

If you click on the red video camera button in the top corner, you can browse through a really long list of videos. Here’s what the interface looks like:

The very first video that plays is a song about gravity with animated robots, and it’s very much aimed at a younger age group. However, there is quite a variety among the video selection, from comedy sketches to educational animations and more, and it’s possible to find clips that slightly older audiences can enjoy as well, if you click around. Still, having the starting clip be something so juvenile was a little jarring, to say the least.

All the videos are produced by sources outside of Poptropica. Poptropica must have obtained some kind of rights with the various different producers of these videos in order to be able to show them, but how they’ve worked that out is not clear. At any rate, some Poptropicans on the PHC have already been voicing out some disappointment in seeing that these videos are not Poptropica-produced, as many had hoped. But this doesn’t have to be a bad thing, if they work at choosing videos that will interest the diverse tastes of all Poptropicans. At the moment, however, it seems that most of the videos are geared towards elementary-aged kids.

All in all, the Movie Theater wasn’t what most Poptropicans were hoping for – and the unfamiliarity and lack of organization among the videos has made this update fall a little flat for some eager Poptropicans. I think it would be a good idea for Poptropica, in the future, to arrange the videos by topic and/or age group in order to make it easier to find something you’re interested in.

The good news is, there’s still a wide selection and variety of topics explored in the fun-themed videos, so if you dig deeper, you can probably find something to your tastes (I personally enjoyed the “Types of Teachers” video!). And, this being a carefully curated selection, everything is child-friendly, which could make this a nice alternative from YouTube for the cautious parents out there.

As announced on the Creators’ Blog, the Movie Theater is up on the web now, and will be joining the Poptropica mobile app very soon.

Plus, they plan to mix up the selection of videos playing in the theater as time goes on, so be sure to check back to see what’s new!

What do you think of the new Movie Theater? Any videos you recommend among the huge list? Any videos you think are not worth watching? What else do you wish to see Poptropica do with the theater? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Home Island, Islands of the Month, Social Media, Super Power Island

Super sketches, snowy spring, and bingo games

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and I’m here with good Poptropica stuff for you all today!

To start, as we know, Super Power is one of the two Islands of the Month for the month of March. And since that is the case, we get to see behind the scenes sketches from the production of that Island! Although we have seen some of these sketches before, there are some new ones in the mix. Check them out below (click to enlarge images):

Interestingly enough, according to the Creator’s Blog post, these are sketches are from a Poptropica artist named Lance. Well, there’s one Creator that we know of that has that name: Lance Fry! Even though it’s kinda hard not to stop chuckling at Crusher’s over-sized arms and chest, these sketches do give quite the insight on Poptropica’s development in 2008.

In other news, over here in the East Coast of the US, nature decided that the definition of “almost spring” weather is not sunshine and decent temperatures – instead we’re getting snow! Skinny Moon lamented this over on Snapchat, yet at the same time, has hyped up the new Movie Theater on Home Island. What will come of it? We’ll just have to wait and see…

Finally, just for fun, Skinny Moon also posted a bingo game on Poptropica’s various social media channels! Check it out below:

Bingo

Within the bingo cards are not only in-game/multitasking parts, but also community-related activities, like “hang out in a Poptropica Discord chat”!

Does anybody have a bingo? Or two? Did anybody black out the board? Let us know! Plus, share your bingo board with Poptropica and they’ll feature it on social media!

BT out!

Dedicated PMFM fans may notice that the section about asking for your own meme face is gone and replaced with this paragraph here. Well, there’s good reason for it. I am ending PMFM submissions starting this week. If you didn’t get your chance to have a meme face, I apologize, but I need a break. The current submissions will last me for the next meme faces, and we’ll pass the next bridge when we get to it. See ya next Monday!

This completes round sixty-eight of meme faces. Tune in next Monday for the next Poptropican Meme Face Mondays!

Movie Theater: Coming Soon!

Hey everyone, it’s Perfect Sky.

As I logged on to Poptropica this morning, I noticed that something pretty exciting – with a very bright, eye-catching design – had just popped up on Home Island: a Movie Theater!

movie theater

“Movies” coming soon to Home Island? Yup, that’s what it looks like, and I have a few guesses as to what these movies could be. But before we get into the theories, shoutout to Fierce Flyer for being the first blogger to notice and post about this update!

Now, we don’t know what exactly this will entail, but the wheel guy beside it has hinted that whatever it is, it’ll be free (though not the popcorn):

movie theater 2

Now, while we’re waiting for the theater to open, let’s take a moment to consider some possibilities for the content of the movies.

Island Trailers:

Although the current map provides short written summaries for every island, and yes, I know the Creators have already made island trailers, new players would be more likely to find these trailers if they were accessible right there on Home Island. So, some (probably not all) of these movies may be already-existing island trailers.

Advertisements:

Is it really a movie theater, or just the official ad hub? This probably isn’t the case, but I’ve seen many other online games add “movie theaters” filled with advertisement videos and nothing else, where watching an ad gives the player some kind of prize. If the Pop movie theater does feature ad videos, hopefully it will be in addition to other movies. If not, then  I’m sure the Creators could at least think of some awesome prizes.

Poptropica Cartoons:

It would be pretty cool if the movie theater had cartoons, not necessarily following the plot of any island, starring classic Pop characters. Also, the Creators might even use this as an opportunity to introduce new characters, whether those characters would eventually appear in future islands or just movies.

Previously Mentioned Movies:

The theater may feature some movies that have already been mentioned previously through in-game posters, such as “Night of the Living Carrots.”

previously mentioned pop movies

It’s also possible that the same movies won’t be playing all the time. Just as the availability of certain items in the Poptropica Store rotates in a cycle, it may be the same for movies.

Some things to consider

Regardless of what these movies consist of, there are a few things to consider in order to keep any expectations more realistic.

  • The Creators obviously can’t make long, complex, full length films free of charge, so these movies definitely wouldn’t be very long.
  • Although movie tickets are apparently free according to the guy by the wheel, popcorn, which I’m assuming would be a handheld item players can carry around, costs “like a bazillion coins.” Since credits are much easier to obtain in larger quantities now, it makes sense that there would be some kind of other fee to pay upon entering the theater, but this would probably only apply to non-members. The theater itself is free, but any other items available for purchase within the theater may be really expensive.
  • The theater probably won’t have many movies available on opening day. I mean, it could, but I wouldn’t be surprised if only a few movies release at first, and if new movies only release one at a time. After all, the Creators are also busy with much bigger projects like Poptropica Worlds.

Well that’s all for my theories, and of course, I may be totally wrong. Share your thoughts on the movie theater in the comments below!

Store

Don’t panic; they’re bringing back the classics!

yeah

Slip here. 👋

I can’t believe it as well! Poptropica has brought back old costumes and power cards! Let’s check out the items they’ve brought back, starting from the power cards!

First off, they’ve brought back the prizes from 2015’s Daily Pop-In: the Fart Gun and the Twin Power. You may remember these prizes from past ads like Despicable Me and Liv and Maddie. If you would track their first appearance, they are actually from a few years back (around 3 years ago). They’re quite perfect for Multiverse parties, and you’re quite lucky if you have these items for free because the Fart Gun costs 500 credits, while the Twin Power costs 300.

Not only the prizes from the Daily Pop-In returned but as well as the Shrink Ray gun from 2011! Well, it also made its re-appearance in 2014 in honor of Shrink Ray Island’s re-release as a sound-updated island (SUI). Still, it’s a classic! Like the items mentioned above, some of you are lucky enough to grab this for free for the Shrink Ray now costs 500 credits! It’s twice as much as its original price!

comeback

Moving on to the costumes, Poptropica has brought back the Graduate and the prom outfits for all! What an awesome way to prepare for the graduation and prom seasons to come! The Ice Cream costume also returned to mark the coming of summer in some countries!

Along with that, a myriad of comeback outfits returned for girls at the Poptropica Store. Most of them are from classic Poptropica and some returned from years of being gone from the Store itself! To name a few, they are the Southern Belle, Pop Star, Wrestling Gear, and the Creepy Countess! Check out the other costumes below! (Click the images to enlarge them.)

…and that is basically what’s in store for you next time you drop by the Poptropica Store! Make sure to stock up on credits by replaying March’s IotMs or spinning the Wheel of Fortune every day! Also, don’t forget to grab the Spring freebies and the St. Patrick’s Day gifts while they’re around! :))

Don’t forget to like or comment, okay? Stay awesome!

bye
