Top 5 Picks

Super Paper Max by Meganf123456

Meganf123456 - Super Paper Max

What a cool design! This Poptropica/Paper Mario crossover looks like a super fun scenario, perfect for fans of both games. The bright colors used reflects the upbeat, playful tone of both worlds, along with their sense of adventure. It’s great to see familiar characters in combination with cool OCs in this design. Fantastic work! Find her DeviantArt here.

A Late Night Game by themightywolftiger

themightywolftiger - A Late Night Game

Fun! I love the friendship between OCs shown in this piece. The scene is perfect for our theme and seems apropos for the world of Poptropica! The artist’s style, particularly in regards to their colored lineart, is distinct and interesting too. Though basic composition, the symmetry in the setting frames the drawing pretty well. I can tell that positioning was well thought out and worked on. Keep it up! Find their DeviantArt here.

My Poptropican Plays Poptropica by Red Tomato

Red Tomato - My Poptropican Plays Poptropica

Cute! I don’t know why, but the idea of our Poptropicans actually playing Poptropica on their own computers cracks me up. Would their characters look like us??? *cough* Anyway, I love the blue color scheme and the emotion put into Red Tomato’s Poptropican. Though the background uses a pretty simple pattern, the blue tones tie everything together and really scream Poptropica! Red Tomato seems ready for action. Find the artist in the comment section!

Fran Bow and Sally Face by xXLilAngel2004Xx

xXLilAngel2004Xx - Fran Bow and Sally Face

Ooooh, spooky! Halloween might not be around the corner just yet, but who doesn’t love some good horror games? These Poptropica/horror crossovers are certainly unique. Just thinking about Poptropica as a horror game… all I can picture is that darn Jersey Devil! But anyway, Copy Cat’s aesthetic is quite fitting, and the inclusion of an OC is always fun. The background photos are extra creepy and both characters are still super cute in the scenes. Wonderful submission! Find her DeviantArt here.

Silvermouse by Spotted Thunder

Spotted Thunder - Mouse

I love this outfit! Spotted Thunder turned their Transformice character into a Poptropican with this submission. With Transformice being an online game, just like Poptropica, I thought the choice was very appropriate. Not only that, but a story was written to go along with the costume. ST definitely went the extra step here, which is certainly worth a feature! Very unique and very nice. Find them in the comments!

Honorable Mentions

Though we don’t have a handful of honorable mentions this month, I definitely want to give a shout out to our very own Gentle Dolphin for creating some amazing game designs herself! Our annual April Fools post had the spotlight yesterday, which featured some of her fantastic work. Plus, it relates perfectly to our gaming theme! See more of her work on DeviantArt.

April: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Pop clubhouses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is April’s theme? April’s theme is…

Action & Combat!

A pretty intense theme, huh? With our recent April Fools prank, the PHB presented a Smash Bros parody game called Smash! Crackle! POP!, so why not continue that sort of fun throughout this month? Poptropica certainly has its fair share of fight scenes, particularly because of how many villains need to be taken down, which gives us great room for creativity with this theme. 😛

Need ideas to kick off your creative action? Why not draw some Smash! Crackle! POP! fan art? Though it won’t be a real game any time soon, we’d still love to see character designs in battle mode, or even some arena ideas, just for fun like those from Gentle Dolphin. Other than that, maybe write a story of your Poptropican facing off against the toughest of villains? Or perhaps create a perfect costume for a fight. Ready… Set… Fight!

  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

April Fools 2019: Smashed, Crackled, POPPED!

Aaaaaapril Fooools, Poptropicans!

You might’ve guessed that yesterday’s post introducing a brand new Poptropica gaming experience, titled “Smash! Crackle! POP!”, was an April Fools’ prank. But if you didn’t, we’re popping that bubble for good: as smashing as it would be, we don’t have any plans to make a Poptropica-style Smash Bros spin-off. We hope it at least made you crack a smile, though. (And yes, the name is inspired by the mascots of Rice Krispies.)

The PHB team did put in some thought into creating the idea of the game, though, so even if you missed it, we hope you’ll still check out our prank post! Gentle Dolphin especially worked hard on making illustrations of fighters, including the roster of PHB staff that’s available as downloadable content (DLC), and a battle arena of Mount Olympus.

Thanks for sticking around with the PHB amid our shenanigans. We’re still committed to being your go-to source for the latest and greatest in Poptropica news, and we’re still hoping to see Poptropica committed to bringing us an excellent game experience—preferably in the form of islands, but hey, some Legendary Swords-style battle would be pretty cool, too. Until next time! ⚔️

Keep fighting the good fight, Poptropicans. ✊

Fun and games for pets at the clubhouse

Hey, Poptropicans! This is Gentle Dolphin bringing you the latest Poptropica news, so let’s kick things off with a fetching clubhouse shop update

The furniture store over at Poptropica Original has recently been updated with some new items that should please the sports stars and pet lovers of Poptropica.

In this update, you will find sports equipment for games like ping pong, baseball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and soccer (or football if you prefer to call it that). You’ll also find a few goodies for pets, as well as a new wallpaper just in time for spring.

The new sports and pets items each cost 75 credits, and the wallpaper costs 150 credits. Plus, they’re available to all players so that’s awesome!

Here’s a picture I took of my clubhouse after buying some of the new items (I apologize for the low resolution):

Also, there’s been an update to the Poptropica Stickers app on iOS! You can find some cute critters among the “Pets! Pets! Pets!” and “Spring Favorites” sections, including pet toys, elephants (Dumbo?), and flowers.

In other news, there’s a new ad for Disney’s upcoming reboot of “Dumbo” (yup… knew those elephants came from somewhere). All you need to do is to watch the video in order to get the adorable Dumbo Follower. You can even click on Dumbo to hear him trumpet.

That’s about it for now. What do you think of the new clubhouse items? Will you be seeing the live-action “Dumbo” in theaters next week? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Guest Posts, Survival Island

A tribute to Myron Van Buren

This is a guest post written by Trusty Leopard, a Poptropican who’ll be sharing a tribute to a favorite villain, Myron Van Buren of Survival Island. Enjoy!

Hello everyone! My name is Trusty Leopard and this is my first ever guest post on this awesome blog. I hope you enjoy this article about my favorite and perhaps one of the most craziest antagonists in Poptropica.

Myron Van Buren (MVB) is the bad guy of Survival Island, a five-part Poptropica adventure that I loved. Van Buren is a cool-looking villain with his hunting clothes, tooth necklace, safari hat, crossbow and creepy smile along with a facial scar to complete the look. A great design, if you ask me.

His catchphrase, “Tally-ho!” is something that I have started using. It just sounds really cool. When I first saw Van Buren and the description for Survival Island, I had some idea of what it might be about, and the villain’s plans. But I figured Poptropica wouldn’t do something like that in a kids’ game, so I was interested to see what exactly MVB’s plans were. Little would I or anyone else have known they did go there.

In the first three episodes, you don’t actually see a bad guy, just someone watching you with cameras after you successfully complete the first two episodes. Pretty creepy.

With the third episode comes your rescue in a sweet-looking helicopter. Your rescuer is big game hunter Myron Van Buren, who lives in a huge mansion with just his chef and butler Winston. (Seems a bit strange to me.) When you tell him you just really rather go home, he insists you mustn’t miss the big hunt tomorrow and just basically won’t let you leave. Totally not a red flag at all.

He acts all nice, showing you his animal trophy collection, but then he makes a ghoulish joke about Winston being another one of his trophies.

But Van Buren laughs it off and tells Winston to go ask the chef to prepare dinner. Winston responds with “Yes, m’lord.” Definitely not normal…

Once you eat the steak, you pass out and wake up locked in a room. That note was absolutely right when it said, “Don’t trust MVB!”

When you finally make your escape, he tells you that you are the quarry for the hunt. O.M.G. Things then cut to an epic mini-game where you’re running from Van Buren’s arrows and his hounds chasing you. I mean for goodness’ sake, he’s a human hunter!

It was a truly fun and exciting twist for an island that was a bit slow in the first three parts and then just exploded once you got to parts four and five.

The idea for this island came from the 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a tale about a big game hunter named General Zaroff who hunts people who get trapped on his island, just like Van Buren did. I was genuinely surprised that Poptropica did something a little dark for a kids’ game.

Even though it was a bit shocking, it was quite fun to play. The mini-game when running from Van Buren was fantastic, in my opinion. The music during the game was suspenseful, catchy, and added to the whole storyline gracefully. In fact, the music for all the parts of the island fit perfectly. My favorite was the “Escape!” episode music. While gathering the supplies for a trap and trying not to get caught, that tune was excellent to play.

Creepy…

The ending of the island was truly in Poptropican fashion. With the cage trap all set, you blow the whistle hoping to get Van Buren’s attention. Instead, he sneaks up behind you and scares you so that you are the one that falls back in the trap! When you ask why he likes to hunt humans, he says he just loves the thrill of the hunt. That is messed up.

Now I know how wild animals feel when they are the ones being hunted. Not fun. Although I knew my Poptropican would live it was still scary watching that scene unfold, never have I seen a more psychotic villain. (Zeus is just really annoying, but it comes close.) Before Van Buren can shoot you and add another trophy to his creepy collection, Max McGullicutty comes in and saves the day on the bear you freed while hunting for trap equipment. You basically high-jump kick Van Buren so he gets trapped in the water tread and ends up being slapped by two beavers on the bottom. Leaving him there for a taste of his own medicine, you exit on the helicopter with Max and watch a beautiful rainbow sunset completed with sweet music. That nightmare is finally over.

This island is one of my favorites and always will be. I love seeing fan art for this island and reading articles about how he is one of the scariest villains in Poptropica. If Survival Island ever makes it into Worlds, they should find a way to make the first three episodes a little more fun and not so tedious. Add some arrows from his crossbow sticking out in trees as you continue along. Put more escape-like mini-games in the final parts. More history about Van Buren’s family would be cool too.

One other thing I would love is if MVB is added to a new version of Super Villain Island. Have Van Buren be one of the villains whose dreams you have to go inside in order to recover an evil totem. If only Survival had come out before Super Villain—it might just have happened. But I can always hope that if Worlds does add a Super Villain Island, they would add this crazy dude to it.

Well that’s it, my post about my absolute most favorite super crazy bad dude of Poptropica! I hoped you enjoyed it. Tally-ho!
