Welcome to Mythology Island! Nostalgic? Or is it your first go at Poptropica’s classic Grecian odyssey? Either way, it’s going to be epic! ⚡️

Looking for something specific? Jump to different parts of the guide:

Tree of Immortality

As soon as you alight from your blimp, climb up the steps nearby and make your way up the Tree of Immortality.

Continue further until you reach the top and talk to the satyr (half-human, half-goat, fully mythical). Then, accept his favor and collect 10 of the surrounding honey jars in the allotted 100 seconds. Once you do, go back to him and he’ll reveal a secret path to a Golden Apple as a reward for helping him.

Once you pick up the fruit, a furious Zeus will appear. He’ll leave you with a scroll listing five sacred items you’ll need to gather in exchange for immortality – or else “…all of Poptropica will feel my wrath!” The items are as follows:

  1. A flower from the Garden of the Sphinx
  2. The golden ring of the Minotaur
  3. A scale from the Hydra
  4. A giant pearl from the kingdom of Poseidon
  5. A whisker from Cerberus, the guardian of the Underworld

Return to the base of the tree and speak to Athena. She’ll let you know how you can receive her guidance — by tapping on the golden olives in the trees.

Next, head right until you reach Midas’s Gym, and talk to Aphrodite to get the Touchscreen Mirror. Keep going right to the Grove of Temples.

Grove of Temples

Click the woman in the orange robe and grab your free Reed Pipe. Afterward, you’ll automatically receive a pipe tune from a purple-haired satyr nearby.

Then, jump up to the right and pick the free Pomegranates from the tree. Drop down into the pit just beside this area and you’ve arrived at Hades’ temple.

Talk to the peasant boy standing around, and he’ll want you to help him complete his job of scrubbing off the graffiti dispersed all over the temple. To do so, click on the littered areas, then hold and drag simultaneously with your finger or mouse. There are three spots of graffiti to clean. Once you’ve got them all, the peasant will gift you with a surprise Starfish!

The Underworld

Remember those pomegranates from the tree earlier? Go to your items and click “Use” on them while in front of Hades’ temple to give them as an offering. That’ll unlock the door, and you can enter — dropping down to the depths of the underworld!

To acquire your first sacred item for Zeus, walk over to the guardian three-headed hound, Cerberus, and play the pipe tune on your reed pipe you picked up earlier. The correct order is blue, green, yellow, blue, red, green.

Play it right and you’ll send the beast into a slumber, allowing you to pluck a Whisker from Cerberus. Now exit the underworld because it’s time to visit another god’s dwelling place! To leave, hop up and enter through the door marked “Realm of the Living.”

Once you’re back outside, jump onto the geyser-lifted moving platform to the right and land onto Poseidon’s seaside domain. No dull tasks here, so just go ahead and place the starfish from earlier on the altar and head on in.

Poseidon’s Temple

You’ll be holding your breath under water immediately when you enter, which makes sense since Poseidon is the god of the sea. 😛 It’s a bit of a maze, so here’s a map to help you find your way around. Also, pick up oxygen bubbles along the way to keep holding your breath, otherwise you’ll have to restart this part!

Don’t forget to grab the Giant Pearl on your way before undertaking the cavern in the bottom left corner. It’s the second of the five sacred items!

Upon setting foot in the sump cave, you’ll come face to… faces… with the monstrosity that is the Hydra! You need to have good timing and coordination when jumping to defeat the Hydra. When you see one of the heads begin to tremble, jump into the air and land on the head as it charges toward you. Repeat this for each of the five heads, and the Hydra will be knocked out cold. Walk over and garner the third sacred item for Zeus, the Hydra Scale.

Business here is all taken care of, so go back up to the surface by climbing up and exiting through the door above the now-sleeping Hydra.

Then head all the way left, past the Tree of Immortality, and keep going left until you reach the Aqueduct of the Sphinx.

Aqueduct of the Sphinx

In order to get the rare flower from the Sphinx, we must first revive it by watering it. To do that, make your way to the top of the aqueducts and pull all the levers and push the bridge platforms. You want to start from the top left and zigzag your way down until you get to the bottom.

When the water flows all the way down, you’ll be able to grab the Rare Flower — the fourth sacred item on Zeus’s list!

Left of the Sphinx, you’ll find the entrance to the Minotaur’s lair. The door is wide open, so let’s head on in.

The Minotaur’s Labyrinth

Go inside and talk to the Minotaur to start the snake challenge – the first feat you need to complete to get the ring. Click the slithering serpent with the red eyes three times, and the door to the labyrinth shall be opened to you.

It can be a little difficult to find your way through as there are many different turns, so here’s a map to show you the way.

As you make your way through this maze, you’ll eventually come across Pan, the god of the wild, who’ll give you advice for solving the upcoming puzzle. Just north of Pan, you’ll come across a wall with a riddle.

To solve this one, remove six of the bones so that the remaining bones spell out the word “TEN” as show in the photo below.

The blockade will rise, leaving only one obstacle left – the scorpion guarding the path to the exit. Jumping over this little creature just requires a bit of timing. Once you get past the scorpion, head straight for the door and out the maze! You’ll earn the Ring from the Minotaur. That’s the last of the five!

The Five Sacred Items

Once you have all five sacred items, you’ll be teleported back to Athena over at the base of the Tree of Immortality. She’ll warn you that the items are dangerous and ask you to take a closer look at them. Assemble the secret message, and you’ll see why. It says: “Whoever wields the five sacred objects will rule all of Poptropica!” And that, of course, is when Zeus drops by to steal the items away from you.

Athena urges you to team up with Hades and Poseidon, with the help of her brother Hercules, to defeat her father Zeus.

You’ll find Hercules finally back from his lunch break outside of Herc’s Hero Hut just right of the area where Zeus showed up. Ask for his help, and he’ll hesitate, but you insist it won’t be long thanks to your touchscreen mirror.

Tap on the green part with the skull to revisit the underworld of Hades’ temple, and hop up to big stone outside Hades’ throne room above the guardian dog. Click the stone, and Hercules rolls it away with ease. Enter and talk to Hades, who’ll give you Hades’ Crown. Then exit and find Hercules waiting outside.

Pull up the touchscreen mirror again and this time tap on the purple part with the trident to get to Poseidon’s temple. Hercules will stamp his foot on a slab of stone, opening up the path to Poseidon’s throne room. Swim on over and head inside. Talk to Poseidon, and he’ll give you Poseidon’s Trident.

Mount Olympus

Back on the main street, Hercules will punch the padlock on the gates guarding Mount Olympus, breaking it and allowing the both of you to enter. Inside the gates, Hercules tries to get rid of a pesky snake—only to find out it’s Medusa! True to legend, she turns poor Hercules into stone. RIP Herc.

Peddle along and you’ll find Aeolus, the god of wind. For making it this far, he’ll give you a free Bag of Wind. You’ll use it right away to elevate yourself into the air and land on the mountain.

Make your way up further by jumping on each of the stones until you reach the very top. From there, go up!

It’s getting climactic as it’s almost time for the final boss battle. Simply walk by all of the statues to illuminate them and activate the cutscene. Zeus will pop in with his arrogant self and refuse to give up the powerful sacred items that lets him rule all of Poptropica. Not on your watch! FIGHT ME, ZEUS!!

Now you’ll take on the power of Hades’ crown and Poseidon’s trident and grow to the size of a god. Here are some helpful tips for the closing clash:

  • Whenever Zeus is idle, rapidly click in his direction to strike him with lightning bolts. From the health bar that pops up, you can see how much damage is left to be dealt in order to defeat him.
  • Certain sounds tell you what attack Zeus is going to use beforehand, so listen closely and be sure to keep track of which is which.
  • Try to fly around the entire screen when he throws rounds of electric mini-clouds toward you, in order to avoid them.
  • Move a safe distance away when he shoots 8 lightning bolts and you’ll be able to quickly pass between them. The same can be applied for when he is about to charge at you.
  • If Zeus is shielded by his white electrify power, refrain from shooting at him or your own shots will ricochet off of him and used against you.
  • Avoid touching Zeus at any time during the battle; it’ll drain your health.

After you defeat the vicious thunder god, he’ll retreat, and Athena will appear. She’ll commend your bravery and congratulate you by bestowing the Island Medallion upon you, along with 200 credits to spend in the Poptropica stores! Congratulations, you’ve completed Mythology Island!

Trivia

  • Mythology Island was first released in the Flash version of Poptropica on April 1, 2010 for members and April 29, 2010 for non-members. It was re-released as a SUI (sound-updated island) with music and a bigger screen on April 25, 2014 for members and May 3, 2014 for everyone. On October 30, 2020, it was remastered with various changes for all players. To view the differences between this version and the original, visit our Classic Mythology Island Guide.
  • Mythology Island is inspired by Greek mythology, with gods such as Athena, Zeus, Poseidon, and creatures such as satyrs and Minotaur.
  • The villain, Zeus, reappears in the final battle of Super Villain Island, and the fight is similar to that of Mythology Island.
  • Hercules is called by his Roman name rather than his Greek name, Heracles.
  • The Bag of Wind from Aeolus’ Wind Wagon is a reference to Homer’s The Odyssey. In it, Aeolus gives Odysseus a bag of wind, but his crew opens it too early and their ship is blown far away just as they were about to reach Ithaca.

      1. I did too, It didn’t work and I couldn’t get in the labyrinth when I made a new account

  1. Slanted Fish, could you add that you have to jump right before the hydra sticks its head out? It’s really helpful.

    1. The guide does say that, in different words: “When you see one of the heads begin to tremble, jump into the air and land on the head as it charges toward you.” I think that’s pretty clear. 🙂

      1. It used to be there. Before Haxe, you got gold string (Ariadne’s string, from the Greek stories) to hep you find your way through the Labyrinth. That feature was taken off, but you can always try using powers such as the Flower Planting Power or putting arrows in the wall with the Cupid Bow and Arrow to restrain from getting lost.

      2. Help you find your way, not hep you find your way. sorry about the typo

  2. Look at the video or read he walkthrough and you’ll complete Mythology Island Duh…….. If you need help look at it CAREFULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Silver Horse I did talk to him!!! All he said was “proceed to the labyrinth” every time!!!!

  3. Maybe some of you guys went in the maze and then came back out from the same starting door? Because it worked fine for me on the first try!

  4. Help! I’m stuck on part of the tree of immortality. I get to the bouncy mushrooms and jump up, and I end up where the tree is broken and the snake’s head is. I try to jump up but I can’t. I also can’t climb up the snake on my device. PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEE

    1. Dangerous horse what device are you using? Because for me to climb up the snake all you have to do is jump on it.

    2. Go to the edge of the branch, then jump. If you fall, you won’t be able to get on. It’s okay because I was stuck too.

      1. you can jump onto the tree branch after you fall off the snake there’s a platform

  5. Hey guys, if you go into Poseidon’s realm and equip the trident, you can become invisible! All you have to do is tap the space bar twice!

    1. Try:
      1. Refreshing the game
      2. Restarting the island
      or
      3. If you have the app, try going on there, then coming back to your computer or whatever and try again.
If all else fails, try contacting Pop support.

  6. I am stuck! Please help I collected the staff and the crown and I went back to the gate but Hercules wasn’t there and there was a boy so I tried talking to him but he just said what Hercules said before I got the crown and the staff. Pls help!

    1. Try not to attack him when he’s glowing because it bounces back and any other time, shoot. Shoot as much as you possibly can. Try to take advantage when he’s not attacking and try to keep collecting clouds while doing it. I know that’s a lot, but that’s my strategy. Good Luck!

  7. Has anyone else experienced an issue where you’ve finished the island and got the medal, but the progress bar isn’t complete? Can’t see any side quest, and I’ve done the Rumple side quest that involves going here. Please help!

  8. Whoever is reading this, there’s a nice glitch where if you equip the rock star 2 outfit (All parts of said outfit) and start walking and hit space as you are walking, your character will pretty much slides across the ground, and if you jump and press space in this outfit, when you hit the ground you basically do a cartwheel. I know that this is unrelated but it’s really cool and I wanted to share it.

  9. Please comment if you found this helpful or interesting, or if you just hated the fact that I commented something so useless that you don’t want me to comment on this page ever again.

  10. Almost forgot. When you jump in the rockstar 2 outfit and hit space, you have to be jumping left or right or else it doesn’t work. Also when you do the slide you can actually do it in the air, you just need to slide off of something.
