PHB Special: Hidden Games of Poptropica

Hey Poptropicans! ๐Ÿ˜€

Throughout Poptropica, you may come across the occasional hidden game โ€“ a mini-game you can play just for fun, that has no effect on the island quest you’re on. In this PHB Special, we’ll be taking a look at these sometimes-forgotten fun features that add a little excitement to Poptropica!

[Pressย ‘Start’ to begin.]

Note: this list does not include games that are required during islands that you can re-play for fun later, nor does it include official mini-quests that come with their own item card in the Store.

[Loading, please wait…]

Table Football :: Big Nate Island

The first truly noteworthy “extra game” to arrive on Poptropica can be found onย Big Nate Island. Inside theย secret clubhouse at the top of the playground, you have to play the ‘Go To Jail’ hangman game, but the ‘Table Football’ game is optional. In Table Football, you aim a folded piece of paper into a football post, and you need 3 goals out of a maximum of 5 chances to win.

Plus, if you do win, you get a bonus book calledย Big Nateโ€™s Pratical Jokes! Good, wholesome fun.

Computer Ping-Pongย :: Counterfeit Island

Inside the Web Browser Cafe on Counterfeit Island’s Main Street, clicking on the computers will activate a cool little computer game of ping-pong! The graphics and concept are simple: just move your cursor up and down to control your white ping-pong board on the left.

Like a goalkeeper, youย want to prevent the pixelled balls from getting past your wall (the left) by bouncing them back with your board. The red balls are normal, while the yellow bonus balls move a bit faster and will also split apart into more balls andย come back once they hit your board.

Slot Machineย :: Wild West Island

On the facade of theย Four Aces Casino in Dos Cactos on Wild West Island, you’ll find, at the very top left corner, a slot machine! It’s fairly straightforward: click on the crank at the left to turn the machine, and see where each of the three slots land when they’re done spinning. If they’re all the same, a slew of jalapeno peppers will rain down like confetti! If not, nothing happens.

Pool :: Game Show Island

On the bottom level of theย Club Nouveau Riche on Game Show Island’s Main Street,ย under the glowing 8-ball sign, you can play a game of pool by clicking on the pool table! There’s just one ball, the white ball, and your goal is to alignย your pool cue (the stick) to try to roll the ball into the hole.

The blue circles, which appear in varying sizes, will make your ball bounce back, resulting in possible point multiplications. Every time you win (by rolling the ball into the hole), you get more lives. See how high of a score you can get before you run out of lives!

Planet Slug :: Night Watch Island

Notably similar to the pop-ular mobile game Angry Birds, Planet Slug is an app game found on your cell phone on Night Watch Island. In this game, you fling a little rocket ship from a slingshot in outer space, and your goal is to aim it at these green planets that look like slugs. Your rocket ships may also hit the asteroids, but that is not the ultimate goal. If you can hit all the slugs before you run out of lives, you win!

Terror in the Garden :: Zomberry Island

During the zomberry apocalypse, Gamer Guy is too busy holed up in his apartment on Zomberry Island playing video games. If you click on his gaming console, you’ll activate a game called Terror in the Garden! This game is essentially the same as the final showdown on the island when you’re saving the citizens with the zomberry antidote, except instead of people, you’re shooting at vegetables with faces! There are no prizes for winning, but it’s good practice for later in the island.

Mega Fighting Bots :: Mocktropica Island

Inside Ephraim University on Mocktropica Island, if you click on the computer in the classroom, you can play Mega Fighting Bots! In MFB, you play as Bucket Bot, and you move around by clicking on where you want to go. To attack, you double-click, and your goal is to destroy your opponent before they destroy you.

Since MFB is also aย main part of the Mocktropica bonus quest, you can find more tips and info for the game on our Mocktropica Island Guide. Alternatively, you can also play MFB on the external Mega Fighting Bots site set up by the Poptropica Creators!

Feats of Speed :: Home Island

Most recently, Poptropica added a new mini-game to Home Island called Feats of Speed, which you can read more about in this PHB post. Not part of any island quest, this recycles a part of PoptropiCon: Episode 1 where you race the Cheetah Bandit to the top of a building.

To get started, talk to Speedy Sam on Home Island (you’ll recognize him by the treadmill) and he’ll challenge you to a race. If you can beat his score, he’ll let you try for the world record, and if you beat that, you’ll win a snazzy pair of Sneakers that you can wear on your feet (really)! There are more sneakers to come, so stay tuned for that as well.

Plus, we’veย been getting hints of Poptropica working on some more mini-games that are Zomberry-themed โ€“ we’ll have toย wait and see what this becomes!

โ€“

Anyway, that about wraps up this list of hidden games in Poptropica! Which ones do you like? What are your high scores?ย Do you want Poptropica to include more of these hidden games within the islands? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

As always, stay popping, Poptropicans!

Stolen Snapshots

Stolen Snaphots on the PHB!

stolensnapshotsphb

Hey guys, Slip here! Say cheese!

snapshots

Remember Stolen Snapshots, which originally premiered on my blog?

I’ve finally decided to move Stolen Snapshots from my (Slippery Raptor’s) Blog to the PHB! I believe that Stolen Snapshots will be a great addition to this blog, and it’ll be a great chance to interact with community members!

What’s going to happen is that every month on the PHB,ย I’ll be featuring 5-10 mystery snapshots. Theyย will always be posted at the end of the month.

Stolen Snapshots is basically a hide-and-seek gameย that tests your knowledge of Poptropica scenery, and it’s up to you to guess where each picture is from! To explain a bit further, here are the mechanics of the game:

  1. You are only allowed to have 1 answer for each picture.ย You may leave your guesses in the comments of the post or the PHB’s Stolen Snapshots page.
  2. If the answer is wrong, you can try and comment again.
  3. There are 5 winners each month, to be featured in the next post.
  4. Anything unrelated to the snapshots will not be accepted.
  5. Of course, enjoy the game!

With no further ado, here are the snapshots up for guessing this month! (Click to enlarge the images!)

Stolen Snapshots: April 2016

Make sure to check back next month to see if you made it to the Top 5! All of the winners will get a chance to be immortalized on the Stolen Snapshots page, right here on the PHB!

Now’s the time to show off your sleuthing skills on the PHB, and I formally announce that you can begin guessing in 3…2…1… GO!

Giant Hawk Adventures, Hellos & Goodbyes, Poptropica: Legends

Giant Hawk’s Adventures: The Final Update

Greetings Hawk-tropicans! This is Giant Hawk speaking, and personally, I’d say that there is no better way to start off this post than with a metaphor. I think it’ll explain everything I’ll be saying its own way. Here it is:

Life is, in a way, like a book. You start it having no idea where it will carry you. Like any good book should, it’ll lead through good times and bad, and by the end, you hopefully won’t want to put it down. But once in a while, that book will start a new chapter. Said chapter will run its course, and when it’s done, the followingย chapter will never be the same. And regardless of how much you may want to go back, you cannot relive that previous chapter the same way again. You can remain in the past, halting your storyline’s progression, or you can continue reading, page by page, awaiting something, whenever it comes, that is just as new and exciting.

Does that make sense? Hopefully, it will in time. For now, I won’t beat around the bush anymore. Let’s get straight into my announcements.

GHArtSketchFromMasterPinpey

Thanks to Master Pinpey for this sketch.

First off, the Giant Hawk Adventures will not be continuing. I know that a lot of you are hyped for it, and I do feel sorry for having to break the news, but I just can’t write the stories properly anymore.

Why, you may ask? The main reason is time. Yes, I understand in my mind what a lot of the events in the GHA would have been. But it takes a lot of time to go through making multiple drafts of these stories, and honestly, they are long. That’s why I originally decided to split them into around six to twelve chapters per book. But even then, these chapters would be very lengthy on their own.

GHArtInTheParkSketchByCrafty

Thanks to Crafty Poptropiqueen for this sketch.

Simply put, I wouldn’t be able to sit down for long periods of time and write them. Between high school, friends and family, my role in local theater, and my personal writing career, I can no longer find the time.

So, for that, I apologize deeply to all of you. I made the decision to create a full-pledged series without fully comprehending what the effects, time-wise, would be in my life.

GHArtGiantHawkByAirRaptor

Thanks to air-raptor for this drawing.

There is a consolation to all of this, though. If you don’t remember, the GHA was going to be linked continuity-wise to the up and coming role playing game Orb Legend, a project headed by the PHB’s own Andrew Wiles aka HPuterpop.

Because of this, the stories of the two have become intertwined in ways that Andrew and I are still surprised by. That is why I will not be leaving my role as story developerfor the production of Orb Legend, and in fact, I will be carrying many important GHA plotlines to the foreground of the game.

GHArtReVeampedProfilePictureByCrafty

Thanks to Crafty Poptropiqueen for thisย drawing.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but you will actually be able to play the story of what the GHA’s finale would have been in the game itself! Best yet, you’ll do so not as Meridian Sinker, HPuterpop’s character, but as Gryffin Hawke himself! If you haven’t yet, check out Gryff’s sprite for the game, as shown below.

GHArtSpriteForOrbLegend

Thanks to HPuterpop for this sprite.

Now, there is one more piece of news I have to share with you all before I end this post. This may seem sudden, but I have been contemplating this for quite a while. And after making my decision and discussing it with the rest of the PHB staff, I have chosen that it is time that I formally retire my position as author on the Poptropica Help Blog.

As I mentioned previously, I have become increasing busy in terms of my offline life this year. School, family matters, friends, and a hopefully budding career. Simply put, I no longer have the proper time to dedicate to this amazing blog and the community around it.

Fishy-GHandMeriwether

Thanks to Slanted Fish for this drawing.

Now, I must clarify something quickly. I have discussed my decision to leave personally with my brother Paul, aka Ultimate iPad Expert, and he has confirmed that he will not be leaving the blog. He will continue to stay with you all, hopefully for years to come; a choice I am completely fine with. He has made a connection with this community that I cannot properly make anymore, so I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Of course, the hardest part of this decision is regarding the people here I have grown to respect, care for, and admire. I most certainly have met a great number of amazing people during my stay here. People with great imagination and a lot of talent. People like the entirety of the authors on the Poptropica Help Blog, CraftyPoptropiqueen, DJ-Rosietta, Cyber-Girl920, Popular Wolf, Dangerous Eye, Tall Cactus, Anne14tco, TechnoBunny16, MasterPinpey, Air-Raptor… The list is truly endless. I wish you all great luck in the days ahead.

GHArtChristmas2015ByDJRosietta

Thanks to DJ-Rosietta for including me in this drawing.

So as I go, I want to wish you all a very sincere thank you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and for this blog. Without you, none of this would be possible, and I am nothing but proud of how this community has grown. And if you have anything you wish to say to me, or if you have a question, feel free to leave a comment below. Thank you all for your time, your friendship, and your loyalty.

Until we meet again…
