My Place in Poptropica: TallMelonIsCool

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of TallMeloniscool, who started out as an average player but then became much more involved. See the bottom of this post for details on sending in your own MPIP!

2010 | An average start

It all started when my mom told me about this website called Funbrain. Well, I really liked Funbrain, though the only place I’d go to on Funbrain was the playground. Every time I finished a game, there was a ad about this game called Poptropica.

At first, I did not really think about that ad. But one day I was curious, and clicked on it to check it out. It was at this point that I clicked on new player and made my first Poptropican.

However, I did not know about saving my account, so I was always making new Poptropicans and just running around, jumping, talking to people, and yeah. I did that for a while, and then something changed when I played Poptropica in the computer lab at school.

At school, one of my classmates saw me playing and told me that you have to try to beat islands in the game, and also told me about making an account. So, when I went home, I made my account! My username is smartajay because my real name is Ajay. I was 6 years old when I made my account. Tall Melon was the first name that came up, so that’s what I went with.

2011 – 2013 | My average Poptropica life

I spent a few years playing Poptropica like a plain average player. I did not know any glitches, did not check out any fan blogs, and did not have any tips and tricks on the games.

Most of the time, I just played the various islands and went inside common rooms. I was always happy when a new island came out. All in all, pretty average of a typical Poptropica player.

2014 | Beyond the simple stuff

The year 2014 was when I started to pick up on more than just the simple side of Poptropica. I did a lot of research and that’s when I discovered exciting things like rare usernames, Nabooti Island’s secret phone numbers, the hidden costume on Early Poptropica, the mystery of Monster Carnival, and more!

Sometimes I’d watch random Poptropica videos on YouTube, and that’s when I discovered PoptropicaPerfectSky‘s Poptropica movies and KeithSammut’s glitches.

2015 | Discovering the Poptropica Community and PHB

As I did my Poptropica research, I realized that the Poptropica Help Blog was the one site with most interesting information and best design out of any I’d seen.

I soon clicked on the “Chat” button on the PHB, and that’s when I really became part of the community. One of the first people I talked to on the Poptropica Help Chat was someone named Pastelia, and the next person I talked to was Red Lizard.

I always had so much fun all thanks to the Poptropica Help Blog. Whether it was chatting on the Poptropica Help Chat (which at the time was still using Xat instead of the current Discord), commenting on blog posts, or Multiversing when someone made a room to join – it was Poptropica heaven.

2016 | Making my Poptropica YouTube channel

If you’ve seen me around, you may know that I have a YouTube channel called SuperTalkCam. I made it earlier this year, and always have fun posting Poptropica videos. For you guys who seem to enjoy it, thank you!

Anyway, I’d like to share about why I made my YouTube channel. You see, when you look up Poptropica videos on YouTube, you want to know what you find 80 percent of the time? Island walkthroughs. And sure, there are some good videos (I really like the ones from Perfect Sky) – but I feel like there could be more. Now, I play other games too – Clash Royale, Minecraft, Agar.io – but when I check out the YouTube scene for those games, I see some pretty interesting videos. Topics include wanted features, top 5 features, and so on.

I wanted to see something like that for Poptropica videos, too. Things like top 5 updates, top YouTube channels about Poptropica, or top islands. Something other than walkthroughs. So that’s why I made my channel – so I could post these kinds of videos. If that sounds like your thing, check it out at SuperTalkCam!

This wraps up TallMeloniscool’s My Place in Poptropica. Hope you enjoyed reading it, and comment below to let me know your thoughts!

Glitches, Guest Posts, PHB Specials

PHB Double Special: Make Fact Monster Great Again!

Hey Poptropicans! This PHB Double Special midweek post comes to you in two small parts – the former is a cool little glitch, and the latter involves two new costumes for everyone. Enjooooy!

Part 1: Bring back the Fact Monster buttons!

(This first part is a guest post by Small Carrot, a Poptropican in our community. UPDATE: Credit for this glitch goes to Keith Sammut’s website.)

Hello Poptropicans, I’m Small Carrot, a common Poptropican you can find on the PHC. I am here to present a fun glitch, and Tall Melon helped me with it. By the way, if you want to add me on Pop, my usernames are rahin6666 and thefreetinycarrot.

Anyway, here’s how you perform this glitch:

  1. Go to Time Tangled Island and obtain the Time Device from the people inside Pendulum’s Lab.
  2. Then, go into the common room on Main Street (the Party Time Tower).
  3. Use the time device in the bottom-left corner and go wherever you want.
  4. Walk around, and you’ll see Fact Monster buttons! If you press on them, they give you some interesting facts.

This is the old version of Time Tangled Island – before it was made into a SUI (sound updated island), there were Fact Monster buttons all over the island to drop some cool educational knowledge about the historical facets of the island. Not sure why Poptropica did away with them in the update, but now you know where to find them again! I hope you liked the glitch! :carrot:

Part 2: U.S. Poptropidential Election 2016!

This next part could probably use a little more Fact Monster, as our two honorary guests aren’t so keen on checking their facts. 😉 Please welcome, in honor of the upcoming U.S. presidential election of 2016 and tonight’s final debate, the (not so) beloved candidates…

Donald Trump (user: DonaldTrumpPHB) and Hillary Clinton (user: HillaryClintonPHB)!

prez-pop

…Sorry, couldn’t resist. Yes, their costumes are customizable. Just friend the usernames above! (I know, they aren’t the only options – but they’re the most iconic.)

Also, check out Perfect Sky’s renditions of these characters:

We are of course still taking entries for our Halloween/Fall Costume Contest – and we’re enjoying the spoopiness so far! Be sure to enter (as many times as you’d like!) for your chance to win a Poptropica membership, courtesy of Poptropica!

But hey, who needs these two candidates when we’ve got #MemeKingForPresident? 👑 Now there’s a viable choice – who else would make our Mondays better with a weekly dosage of Poptropica memery?

Share your thoughts in the comments below – just don’t break out into a political fight. 😉

24 Carrot Island, Guest Posts, Popspiracy Theories

Popspiracy: Munch on the New 24 Carrot!

(Hey Poptropicans! This Popspiracy theory about a remade 24 Carrot Island is a guest post by Shaky Skunk, who regularly blogs on her site, Poptropica Skunk Blog. Check it out, and enjoy! – 🐠)

popspiracy

Wait – hold the phone
24 Carrot Island is going to be remade for New Poptropica?! I’ve got compelling evidence to think so. Who knows, maybe other islands could also get remade! 😀

Our first piece of evidence is this sneak peek that was released on the Daily Pop a while back:

Hay There: This one is a real barnstormer.
Hay There: This one is a real barnstormer.

Take a look at the setting of this image. The skies are brown and it’s located inside a barn, just like the one on 24 Carrot Islandthe barn we can’t enter in the current version. The text on the barrel and crate have incomplete lettering on them – enough to speculate that it reads “Funny Bunny”, which is the name of the farm according to the sign there. Additionally, the man in the picture is wearing a hat with two pink rabbit ears.

Just the day before, there was another sneak peek – that of a homeless man. There is a bit of a similarity between the new design and this character from the current 24 Carrot – could the new guy be a remake of him?

24carrothomeless

Plus, remember those rat sneak peeks on the Daily Pop we all complained about? And how there’s a rat inside the factory on 24 Carrot? The newer rat might just be that critter.

Our final piece of evidence is a minor detail I found at the top of the monster worm picture from the recent New Poptropica sneak peek. Oddly enough, they’ve removed the pic from the official Creators’ Blog post, but you can still see it below. Among the file names up top, there are four that sound like they could belong on a new 24 Carrot Island – “Char_Rig_Cook.ai”, “Char_Rig_Cook_whiteskin.ai”, “Char_Rig_CrazyComet.ai”, and “body_parts_CC.ai”.

If you don’t remember Crazy Comet, he’s one of the four children that got kidnapped by Dr. Hare to become one of the drones working in the factory. As for the Cook character(s), they may be workers in the Carrot King Diner.

24carrotmissingkids

What do you think? Could the worm be related to 24 Carrot Island, and steal/protect the carrots? Who knows
I’m just sad that the first island wasn’t something like Early Poptropica, but you never know.

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: White Ice

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of White Ice, a Poptropican who played on-and-off with another game, Fantage, but ultimately chooses Poptropica. See below for details on sending in your own MPIP!

mpip wi

Hey guys! I’m White Ice, and my username is maryamkamal2197. I’m fairly new to the Poptropica community, and to blogging as well. Just to clarify, I’m not the White Ice that runs a Poptropica fashion blog, though I used to run the People of Poptropica blog along with Lucky Joker, and you can find me on Instagram at Skyestique. Here’s my Poptropica story!

2009 | The Beginning

I didn’t discover Poptropica through Funbrain, unlike many people. I actually discovered Funbrain later, through Poptropica!

During 2009, I was living in the Philippines for a short while, and during one of my mom’s classes (I used to come with her to them), there was a girl who came with her parents, and she introduced me to Poptropica. Back then, I was only about age 5 or so, so I don’t remember much about what Poptropica was like back then. But after she introduced me to it, I was hooked.

I didn’t know what walkthroughs were, so sometimes I would get stuck on an island for months. I don’t remember if White Ice was the account that was my first, but I do remember that it’s at least 4 years old. I regret making my username what it is, because it is kind of personal, but I was young, and didn’t know any better. 😛

2010-2012 | Another Game

I soon discovered another online game called Fantage, which caused me to play Poptropica a lot less. My cousin introduced me to it to me midway through 2010. Fantage is a rubbish game now, but back then, it was quite addicting for a kid. To me at the time, Fantage was much better than Poptropica, because you could chat with other players, and in Poptropica you couldn’t.

I would still check on my Poptropica account occasionally, but it wasn’t until my Fantage account was hacked during 2012 that I was fully pushed back to Poptropica.

2012-2013 | Active yet again

These two years were probably the most active years I had on Poptropica, but I don’t get how I never discovered the Poptropica community! During this time, I was obsessed with completing islands. I discovered walkthroughs, but because some written walkthroughs missed details sometimes, I also used Thinknoodles’ walkthroughs. I completed all of the islands that were out back then. I never got membership, because my mom thought spending money on games was a waste.

I didn’t have a chance to introduce my friends to Poptropica, because most of them were Chinese and they weren’t really interested in playing English games. (I live in Hong Kong, and yes, it’s the same city Slanted Fish is from! By the way, Hong Kong is in China, but is considered a special administrative region.) Anyway, some of my friends actually knew Poptropica, because some younger kids would play it in the computer room during recess, but they themselves didn’t play it.

2014-2015 | Growing old

And then life got in the way…

During 2014 and 2015, I started to play Poptropica less and less, because at that time, I got an Instagram account, I became a Potterhead (Harry Potter fan), and I started to read more mature books than the Wimpy Kid and Geronimo Stilton I had been reading before. This led to me becoming a fangirl and joining Instagram fandoms. I even started playing Fantage again, because my cousin managed to get my account back. So basically I just grew up a little. And when I got my first phone, I didn’t touch Poptropica at all.

2015 – present | In Full Swing

It’s funny how many breaks there are in my Poptropica story. I guess that’s because I’m a strange kid who has strange tastes.

During the latter half of 2015, I checked on my Poptropica account sometimes, and completed the newer SUI islands that came out during my 2014-2015 inactiveness. My return to Poptropica was probably due to finally quitting fantage, and to ignore the sadness I felt for splitting ways with my primary school friends. I discovered the PHB, and checked on it pretty often, but I never commented, and I didn’t explore enough to find the PHC yet.

On the 15th of June, 2016, I finally got my chance to get more involved. I was bored and decided to check out the PHB, when I saw the post announcing the Summer Kickoff Party. I thought, Hey, it would be pretty cool to finally actually talk to other Poptropicans!

At 12am on 21st June, I set multiple alarms for 6am on my phone, and put it right beside my head. And guess what? I didn’t wake up. In fact, I was about an hour late, and the party was already in full swing.

The summer kickoff party was an amazing first Poptropica community experience for me. That day, I met Lucky Joker, Red Thunder, and Zany Panda, who, including me, were the last people who stayed on after the party ended. Lucky Joker then had the idea to start a blog together. Thus, the People of Poptropica blog was born. (Unfortunately, it was hacked a couple of months ago, but has since been revived.)

I just joined the Poptropica community not too long ago, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. Well, maybe I will, if the New Pop is disappointing. But probably not. I love Discord (where the PHC is) and blogging too much. 😀 It’s become my daily routine already. Get up, turn on my laptop and go on Discord. If I’m ever famous, it’ll probably be because I’m on Discord way too much! :’D

I have no idea how to close this up, but thanks, fellow poptropicans and POP bloggers. And thank you, for reading my Poptropican story.

Contests

PHB’s 8th Annual Autumnal-Halloween Contest!

8thhallo-phb

This contest is now CLOSED. Check out our announcement of winners here!

Boo, Poptropicans! Fall is here, and that means Halloween is not far behind!

Even if you don’t live in a region that experiences a season of leaves changing color, pumpkin pie, and jack-o-lanterns (or if it’s spring where you are), the only thing you’ve got to fear are the Halloween costumes of your fellow Poptropicans – because here on the PHB, for the 8th year in a row, we’re continuing our tradition of throwing a costume contest in October!

This year, in addition to the Halloween theme, we’re adding another theme: the season of fall itself! You can choose to participate in both (or one, or neither, as you wish).

Traditionally, Poptropicans submit their best Poptropica Halloween (and now, also autumn/fall) costumes in the comments section by giving an Avatar Studio link and/or posting their username. Keep in mind the following tips:

  • Be original! Mix and match to create your own unique costume(s).
  • There are some great Halloween costume parts at the ghoul gathering from the end of the Haunted House quest from the Store, as well as the collection of free costumes in the Store, but be creative and search in other places too! As for autumn, look for the colors of fall, like red, orange, yellow, and brown.
  • Keep your costume intact until after the winners are announced, or we may not see it! If you don’t want to keep the costume on your main account, create a new one and post that instead.
  • To post your entry, go to the Avatar Studio, type in your username, click Load, click on the Link to highlight it, right-click and choose Copy, go to the comments section on this post, right-click and choose Paste, type in your comment and submit so we can view your costume by clicking the link! Name your costume and post the username if you want.

WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO: On Halloween (October 31st), we’ll make a post featuring the winning costumes, plus they will also be immortalized on the PHB’s Costumes page, where you can also see examples of past winners. We’ll have 10 winners for the costume portion – 5 fall fashions, and 5 Halloween hauntings.

You may send in multiple entries (as many as you like), but note that each person can only win a maximum of one time. Please remember to use a different account for every entry, as otherwise we will only see the last costume you put on.

UPDATE: Poptropica has graciously offered to sponsor this PHB contest by giving a one-month membership to each of the 10 winners! Now you have to enter, right? 😉

But wait, there’s more

spooktober

Stolen Snapshots is returning for another round called Spooktober, courtesy of Slippery Raptor! Can you guess which islands these spooooky negatives were taken from?

Alright, spoopy peoples! Be sure to post your guesses, costumes, and any questions you may have in the comments below! Have a hauntingly blessed day and enjoy the apple cider season!
