Announcing… the Poptropica Help Subreddit!

Hi Gs,

I’m pleased to announce the opening of the Poptropica Help subreddit – at reddit.com/r/poptropicahelp! It’s essentially a minimalistic forum (you might even call it PHF (Poptropica Help Forum) 2.0!) for all things Poptropica – check it out:

subreddit

If you casually browse the internet, you may have heard of Reddit, which is basically a user-generated hub of news links that shows the most popular stories based on user votes. Subreddits focus on specific niches, in this case Poptropica, and this subreddit is now another facet of our Poptropica Help Network.

On the Poptropica Help subreddit, we encourage you to post helpful tips, jokes, witty ideas, theories, costumes, and basically anything imaginable! Once you post your tidbit, it gets thrown into a big bucket of other posts. Users of the subreddit sort the cream from the crud (by “upvoting” or “downvoting”) until the best posts show up on the “hot” section of the forum.

You’ll need a Reddit account (it’s free) to vote, comment, and post on our subreddit – plus there are many other subreddits out there you may be interested in! In any case, while there is an /r/poptropica, it is mostly inactive – but with your help, we can make our Poptropica Help subreddit a hotbed of activity!

Pop on over and start posting some Poptropica content! 😀

Creators, Social Media

We were in a Multiverse with a Creator!

Hi Gs,

At 5pm EST today, the official Poptropica Twitter randomly tweeted a Multiverse code (BJS54), inviting all Poptropicans to join. PHB author Brave Tomato saw this almost instantly and joined the room, finding only one other Poptropican inside – a girl named Skinny Moon, most likely the Poptropica Creator who started the impromptu party.

impromptu multiverse

Using the previously discovered method of finding a Poptropican’s username (see this PHB post), we found that this anonymous Creator’s username was PopGirlJess (and Poptropican name “Skinny Moon”). However, Poptropica confirmed on Twitter that this Jess was not Poptropica’s CEO, Jess Brailler. (Perhaps the person running Poptropica’s social media is a lady named Jess?)

Others who later joined the Multiverse included yours truly (HP) along with PHB authors UiPE and Slanted Fish, as well as Poptropica community members Master Pinpey, Red Lizard, and Friendly Rock. Some of the PHB authors battled with the Creator, who let us win easily – which was sort of odd. About half an hour later, “Skinny Moon” left the room and tweeted that they were leaving to have fajitas for dinner. But don’t worry, they say there’s more to come!

Anyway, keep a look out on the official Poptropica Twitter (and the PHB’s Twitter @Poptropica_Help) to be in the know of events such as this! Even if you’re not on Twitter, we have a Twitter timeline you can keep track of on the sidebar of this blog.

App, Store, Timmy Failure Island

Import your desktop Poptropican to the app & more!

Hi Gs,

The Poptropica app got a serious update today with lots of different features, namely a new import function that allows you to gain your appearance and name from the online version. However, this update is currently only available for Kindle Fire devices (probably has something to do with Amazon’s lax app approval system), so I was able to try it out first hand.

Do note that you have to create a new character to import the look, so the character you originally played on will be left alone. That means that you will have to replay the islands you may have completed on the original again on the imported character.

That said, it is simple enough: just click New Player, and then enter the age, gender, etc – until you reach the character look screen. A button is added – along with ‘Change All’ and ‘Change Colors’ – ‘Import Look’. Clicking this will open a screen that allows you to enter your User/Pass from the online version. Clicking accept, your tanned friend will appear. 😉

By the way, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve been referenced on the Creators’ Blog – and I gotta say, it’s pretty funny. 😀 –

The costume you’ve painstakingly put together on the web? Your expertly coiffed hairstyle? Your perfect tan? Now you can take it all to go, in the Poptropica app!

There are a couple other added features as I before mentioned: Timmy Failure Island is now available to download, and a new “Fall Fashion” costume bundle has been added to the mobile store.

As per usual, the pack is $0.99 – which I am sorta abhorred by – but the costumes are pretty cool. Of course, these had already been released (sort of) on the online version of Hub Island and in the online store. Oh, wait. We haven’t covered the item 😛 —

A new item has been added to the online store for both genders, answering the request by Slippery Raptor for us getting our hands on that lucky flannel from the replacement of the original Shop keeper (he’s still on the mobile version, just inside the shop). These are both 75 credits, but for some reason are in the gold cards section instead of costumes..? Either way, really neat costumes. And yes, the costume is the same for both genders – which is a little lazy. 😛

Remember, this update is only for the Kindle Fire at the moment. We’ll update you once its released for Android and iOS devices.

Comics

Introducing the PoptropiComic!

Hi Gs,

A few weeks ago, I announced that I was starting a story driven comic centered around my Poptropican, Messy Sinker. I haven’t forgotten about that project, and if you keep up with my DeviantArt, you’ll know that the first few pages have been released there.

PoptropiComic

This comic won’t just be starring me, though! As before mentioned, a few other key community members will play large roles in the comic, and I think you guys will really enjoy the mixture of personalities. I have so much to cover in the comic – from Doodles to Time Keepers – and I’m splitting up these adventures into “books”. These books will be comprised of chapters, which will be comprised of pages. Here’s the thing: these chapters will have a lot of pages – 50 to 100 each – so the books will be pretty large. These stories will be larger than life. You can read the first pages below:

For the latest pages, keep watch on my DeviantArtI post them as soon as I finish them! I’ll be sure to publish some posts containing pages on here as well, once a few have been posted there. Also, there’s more to this story than just a comic. Stay tuned for more on that… 😉

Our Discovery Island

More on Our Discovery Island!

Hi Gs,

A while back, I posted about a new venture: Our Discovery Island – and online world using Poptropica’s engine. We now have way more info about what it has in store. Let me fill you in…

odi4

You definitely have to buy the books to easily access the islands – and it’s one island per book. The activity books include a DVD, activity sheets, and stories. The DVD contains cartoons – they’re not bad, either – including the same voice acting from the islands.

The islands are incredibly long – I went through Family Island and collected pictures for (hopefully) all the characters in the island. It turned out to be 90 characters – 90! A regular island on Poptropica has about 30!

familyIslandCharacters

And yes, I plan to document the game on the Poptropica Wiki. It may take some time. 😛 From what I learned, the background art in ODI is incredible – they don’t let the 2D boundary get in their way. They use 3D trickery to make the world seem much more immersive.

Oh, one more thing: Tropical Island held a surprise for me. While playing through the island, it showed a family tree, and what appeared to be Mordred from Astro-Knights Island! I’m not completely sure that this is canon, but it definitely showed Mordred’s parents! Sadly, I didn’t get a screenshot, but hopefully I will later.

What does this mean? Do these universes crossover? Tell me in the comments!
