My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Fearless Rider

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Fearless Rider, who first found Poptropica through her sister, and now makes her mark as her own Poptropican. See below for details on sending in your own MPIP!

MPIP-FearlessRider

Hi!!! I’m Marshmallowlilypads, AKA Fearless Rider. (You’ll hear the explanation for the name later!) How are you, PHB readers? Are you ready for My Place In Poptropica? Are you sure? Super sure? Absolutely sure? Positively sure? Totally sure? Okay, I’d better start before you guys leave.

Forbidden Love

My discovery of Poptropica goes way back, second grade to be exact. My one older sister was always the popular one. And… I was the weird one. I always felt like I was in her shadow, always known as “her little sister”. I doubted people even knew my name. My sister was also a trendsetter, and, to be honest, a pretty good one at that. Silly bands, bagged chips, fake nerd glasses – say anything, and my sister could make it a trend. So, when she played Poptropica in the computer lab one day, boom, it spread like wildfire.

My sister would play Poptropica on her computer, and, if she allowed me to, I’d pull a chair up right behind her and watch. Poptropica was awesome back then (and still is!). I’d breathe right over her shoulder, totally mesmerized by the game.

My sister got older, and I’d annoy her more and more, until she eventually banished me from the room when she played. But, when she walked out of the room, I inched myself into the living room and made my first Poptropica account. I forgot the password and username, but I still remember the in-game name: Cuddly Eye. I had to make it up the first chance I got, since my sister was coming back into the room. But, the first time I hopped into that yellow balloon, I fell in love.

It was a forbidden love, if you think about it.

Tab In, Tab Out

Way back then, I had a really bad memory. A terrible memory. I made over 20 accounts because I kept forgetting the usernames and/or passwords. A few months after I made my first account, I took a break. Of course, I forgot my password. So I made a new one. This happened several times, and that’s why I have so many aliases.

I’m not the most talented Poptropica gamer, so I looked up walkthroughs often. And walkthroughs led to… ta da! The PHB! Okay, okay. I’m not going to say that when I started looking at the PHB, I was totally into it and submitted stories and ideas and now I’m a PHB legend! No. That has not happened. At all. When I first started checking out the PHB, I didn’t even look at the comments section.

It was all about the walkthroughs. I would get on an island, look at the tab on my computer that said something like, Ghost Story Island Guide, and do what it said. I don’t know if other people do this, but it’s most efficient for my taste. Yes, it consisted of a lot of tab-switching: tab in, tab out, tab in, tab out. But I ended up finishing ALL of the islands (you know, when all of the islands were open to everyone. I didn’t have a membership back then).

And then, guess what? I forgot my username.

More Recently…

I stopped playing Poptropica for a pretty long time after that. A year, I think. I moved houses, switched schools, and homework got more intense homework… so I didn’t have a lot of time for playing. But soon, I was allowed to do homework in study hall, and Poptropica popped up again (see what I did there?). And when life gives you Poptropica, you find the PHB! Again!

I was older then, and I had my own computer, so I could pretty much go on Poptropica and the PHB all I wanted. I explored more of the PHB, told my friends about it and gave them the link, and played Poptropica more! I finished exactly 30 islands, and I’m still working on Arabian Nights Island.

But when I discovered The POPCORN magazine, it… called to me. Before you call me a freak, I submitted a story to The POPCORN and… it showed up in there! Boom! The Warden’s Daughter by Fearless Rider! I made my signature look, which you can see in the graphic above (my user is Marshmallowlilypads). I posted my first ever PHB comment on White Gamer’s MPIP, and I’m still trying to make my mark on the PHB. Wish me luck!

Mystery of the Map – online vs. print

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and I’m here with a very special post.

MotMGraphicCoverRemember when I told you all that I was going to get the print version of Mystery of the Map’s graphic novel in my post about when it was just released? Well, I had gotten it and re-read it a few weeks ago. In case you’re wondering why I waited so long to tell you guys about this novel, it’s because I wanted to give a fair shot to the novel’s sales. After all, the novel is a source of revenue for the Creators, and money is needed to fund the game.

This post is here to highlight the differences between the original online version that was posted last year, and the newly updated printed version. I’ll tell you right off the bat that the plot is the same as well as the circumstances. However, there are a few differences that sometimes enhance or affect the graphic novel in other ways.

Be wary of spoilers ahead! If you haven’t bought the book, yet are able to, I recommend you buy it for yourself – it’ll support the Creators!

Hellos & Goodbyes

Farewell my fellow Poptropicans

Hey everyone, I know what you guys are thinking: “OH MY GOSH A POST FROM SAMMMM!?!” Yes, it is a post from me, but sadly it is probably my last.

tipic1I still love Poptropica and it is a huge part of me… but life is tough and it gets in the way. College, school, clubs and friendships have taken precedence over blogging matters. I have a 3.9 GPA in high school and a 98% average in my college class. Also, I have been nominated by my district for the Best Treasurer of Key Club in my region (3 states) ;).

So you guys now know I haven’t been goofing off at all and just have been super busy. I just feel the time has come for me to resign and give someone else a lucky shot at being an author. I know I have been taking up space as an author and I regret that. I remember being one of you guys striving to be called one of illustrious “PHB authors” and make world renowned posts for all to enjoy. I achieved that goal and have enjoyed every single passing second of it.

For all who strive to be an author – don’t give up! I was just about to give up when Fishy emailed me and changed my life. This blog has changed me for the better. I have met so many people and have made so many friends (some life-long) doing what we all enjoy: Poptropica blogging. Believe it or not, but by supporting me, it made me want to post more and I was never much more eager to post than the last few months. It’s really heartwarming to know that people on here take time to say: “Sam, I miss your posts. Can you please post again?”. Those people motivate me to do better as a blogger – and sadly, I have failed my Poptropica family in post quantity.

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me through everything on here, my blog, and the chat personally such as: Serious Shadow, Tough Raptor, Elphangor on my blog. Super Thunder, Icy Comet, Angry Wing, Shaggy Tornado, Fuzzy-B, and Blake as former authors that helped me with posts and inspired me. Obi, Pixel, Flamez, and Rue as owners/mods on the chat. I’d really like to thank BT, GH, SR, Paul, Andrew, Syd, and Fishy for being sensational coworkers and a big help with my posts; especially Andrew shh ;). But most of all, I would like to thank every single one of you for reading, liking, and commenting on my posts. I wouldn’t even be here without you guys. Every single one of you is amazing.

I’d also like to say that I am just resigning from the PHB, I will be still as active as I was and I will be on the PHC frequently. I might make a few guest posts in the summer too ;’). I will also be a consultant with all the PHB authors on decisions for the blog – so I will still be around! All of you guys are a true blessing and a joy to have worked and talked with. I will always have a spot in my heart for the PHB and you guys!

For possibly the last time,

~SW5~

TwitterRoundup

Hey guys, Spotted Dragon here with another Twitter roundup, as well as a Capri Sun ad, among other things (hehe, my post title rhymes)! There have been lots of things posted on Twitter that are worth mentioning, so let’s get started!

First up, have you met all these Poptropicans? The whole Shark Boy to Shark Guy cover-up was pretty smooth. 😎 Also, you may notice that Master Mime is now female! Not sure when that happened… Anyway, tell us who your favorite Poptropican is in the comments below!

we all wanna be famous

Next up, we have a behind the scenes look at some more decor in Poptropica HQ! Obviously this related to Legendary Swords, even though that entire arc has been abandoned. However, Jessica does say “Well, you never know!” 😉

eeeviilll

Coming to an end with this Twitter roundup, a pro tip for Poptropicans everywhere: no need for bribes in any contest. Yep, apparently someone sent in a very tempting $5 when entering a recent Poptropica contest. No need to worry though, the money was sent back. XD

bribe

Oh! And one more thing! If you live in Rochester, you have a chance to meet Kory MerrittSaturday March 26, 2016 2:00 PM at Barnes and Noble!

Well, that wraps up the Twitter roundup, but this is not the end of the post! Another ad has been *spotted* on Poptropica.

capri sun

Specifically this ad is for Capri Sun (thanks to Spencer for the pics btw). By clicking on the ad, you will earn Spring Shoes and can then press space bar to jump! Sooo, yep, have fun with that. It’s not often Poptropicans get to wear shoes. 🙂

In other news, Monkey Wrench Island, previously just on Home Island, is now on the map!

If you get stuck, be sure to check out our guide. 😛

That’s all there is for now, but be sure to keep checking in for more updates!

Daily Pop

Daily Pops: Why aren’t they daily anymore?

Hey folks, Cobalt here!

Today, I’m going to be making a discussion post for you Poptropicanos to converse about. I’ve been noticing the community is more art-bent than anything lately (not like that’s a bad thing! 😛 ). I love all the artists and musicians here, but I feel as if we should talk about the actual game features and the problem I’ve been noticing with them as well. 😀

dailyPopWhy.png

More specifically, the so-called Daily Pop.

If you’re like me, it’s your favorite feature. If you like theorizing over the sneak peeks, it definitely is. Though, are they really keeping up with their name?

The Daily Pop isn’t daily anymore. To me, it feels as if they just upload a sneak peek when they have a sneak peek to upload. That isn’t daily at all! Also, the Celebrity Clips haven’t been updated in years, along with the side games they have to offer. What’s up with that?

The infamous Poptropica comic was from Monday to Friday weekly, and I give it that. Though, it did come to its temporary end in November while Kory Merrit is working on the novels. Hate to be harsh, but not daily. :/

And yes, while I understand they’re busy and whatnot, and they do have our best interests at heart with other things like rad items and groovy islands, (yes, I just said groovy), I do feel as if the Daily Pop should either step up its game, or reinvent itself and give it a different name. 😛

What they have to offer to us is truly great, but maybe they shouldn’t be called the Daily Pop anymore. What do you think? Discuss in the comments! 🙂

This is your favorite chemical element, armor in Terraria, or shade of blue signing off!

-Cobalt Spinner

Update: Skinny Moon from Poptropica has commented on this PHB post with the following:

Hey everyone! A little update of sorts for you: Things are SUPER busy at Poptropica HQ. We are working, working, working on so many things. Updating the Daily Pop isn’t always possible when we’re working on a lot of stuff we can’t quite talk about. I would love to say more, but I can’t — I will as soon as I’m able! 😀

Let’s keep the discussion going in the comments!
