My Place in Poptropica: Shoeless Raptor

Scared of sewers

I was really little when the game came out. All of my three older siblings would constantly play it, but I wasn’t really old enough to understand what was going on.

I tried playing Early Poptropica for the first time by myself when I was 6, but I was too scared of going in the sewers, so I ran away from the computer and cried in my bed! Even though I was too scared and too unskilled at the game to enjoy it, I would always beg my siblings to play so I could watch them.

Moving up and away

As I got older, I found the game easier, and after many hours I finally faced the sewers and completed Early Poptropica Island. I then did 24 Carrot, and I kept attempting other islands until the Wimpy Kid ones came out.

Then our family had to move from Australia to the opposite side of the world. We spent two years in Japan and two years in Greece. (We’ve since moved back to Australia, though.)

In that transitional time, I lost my love for Poptropica. I really didn’t have time for it anyway, and my other siblings didn’t really want to play it anymore. Plus, I didn’t have my own computer since I was still young, so I couldn’t play by myself.

Back and better than ever

Then last year, I decided to log back into my old account and I started playing more. I noticed that there was a beginner island (Monkey Wrench) added, which I never did because I figured it was boring.

I also saw that there was an app. Actually, I got the app before I tried logging in on the computer, and I was outraged for a moment because I thought they took away all the islands. But then I logged on from the computer and everything was fine (lol).

The first day I logged back on, I could do 24 Carrot Island and Early Poptropica in just 20 minutes. From there, I have now completed all of the non-member islands, and now I’m trying to ask for a membership (lol).

And in case you were wondering, my siblings still play it, even though most of them are at university—and they always ask me for help with islands.

Even though I’ve finished all the islands I can, me and my siblings now do time trials to see who can finish Skullduggery Island in the least amount of time. We always prepare a huge plate of snacks before we do this.

And whenever I get home from a long day at school and other activities, I just play some of my all-time favourite islands again. I love Skullduggery, Mystery of the Map (even though it’s easy), Counterfeit, Poptropolis Games, and many more.

My Place in Poptropica: Red Tomato

Everyone is doing these MPIPs, it seems… so being the writer I am, I guess I’ll try too.

2016 | An Addiction, and OCD

Well, it all started in the lovely year of 2016 (cue angelic music) when I noticed a boy playing a computer game in class. I took a look at what he was playing. He was controlling a little stick figure hopping around on things. The stick figure had an oval shaped head with big eyes, and the body was a round circle. He said he was playing Poptropica.

When I got home that day, I looked up the game and soon created an avatar. The name it first gave me was Shaky Scorpion!!! I quickly clicked the “change name” button, and it gave me Red Tomato. I was ok with that one, so I started playing. The first island I completed was Monkey Wrench (of course, I was a noob) and the second, 24 Carrot.

Pretty soon, I’d finished a lot of islands and was totally addicted. I played all the time. Then, I was diagnosed with OCD, and with that, I was off to special treatment in a different city for two months. During that time, I didn’t play Pop at all.

2017 | Into the fandom

A few weeks after I came back, I found an old video of me playing Poptropica. Inspired to pick it up again, I logged back in and, after recovering from some nostalgia, I played for hours and soon became addicted again.

When Pop Worlds came out, I was kinda disappointed with what it had to offer. But I did manage to complete Crisis Caverns, 24 Carrot, and all 40 levels of Dr. Hare’s Revenge! Still, I spent most of my time on Pop Original (and I played other games that weren’t Poptropica, too).

One day, I stumbled across the Poptropica Help Blog. I enjoyed commenting on all the great posts, and even participated in a party on their chat server, the PHC! That was the 2017 Holiday Party. Anyway, I became a pretty active member of this community, and I’m still playing the game to this day.

I even took my love of the game and used it to write a fanfiction I called The Bond of Joeseph and Claudia Stockman, which is about the shaky bond between two black-haired siblings. (Joeseph lives on Virus Hunter Island—you may remember him as Patient Zero—and Claudia lives on Counterfeit.) I am also planning to write an ongoing series called Red Tomato and the Search for Pink Bunny and Gray Kitten.

I also draw fanart, though I’m not a very good artist. You can also find the original version of this post on my Poptropica blog, The Splat!

Hi guys! My name’s Sporty Runner, and this is My Place in Poptropica, the entire story of my Poptropican life! Enjoy!

2013 | From Wimpy Kid

It all started when I was looking through the official Wimpy Kid website. (Have you read the books? It’s written and illustrated by the creator of Poptropica, Jeff Kinney!) Anyway, the website is mostly stuff about new books for the series, games, and just other things related with the books, know what I mean?

So one day, when I was looking through the site, I found a Wimpy Wonderland Island medallion. Above it in blue letters, it said “Wimpy Kid on Poptropica.” Curious, I clicked on it, and it led me to a page about Wimpy Wonderland Island.

I saw a play now button, and in my confusion, I clicked on it. That then led me to the brilliant world of Poptropica. Basically when I first started playing, I was just confused. But the more I played, the more into it I got.

2014–2016 | Just School & Poptropica

In the couple of years that followed, my life was mainly just two things—school and Poptropica. I had started playing the islands and figuring how to beat them with the help of YouTube walkthroughs from Thinknoodles.

I had gotten so into the game that I would visit the official Poptropica website at least three times a day to see if they were doing anything new.

That all changed in 2016.

2016 | Disappointment

2016 was officially the worst year of my life. So many bad events occurred in my life that year relating to school, family, and of course, Poptropica!

Poptropica had gotten so boring I barely started following them anymore. There were barely any interesting updates in 2016. Of course, I was psyched to hear about the “All New Poptropica” that was supposed to come out in late 2016, but was disappointed to find out that it didn’t come out that year after all.

So, in December of 2016, I decided to quit Poptropica and focus on other things.

2017 | Here Comes Worlds

I had ignored Poptropica for at least 5 months until one day, I found a picture that my dad had taken of me playing Poptropica. It made me smile and I started to feel a little sad. Poptropica was one of my biggest memories as a kid, and looking at the photo, I decided I just wasn’t going to let that be washed away.

So, I got myself right back onto Poptropica—and was absolutely shocked to find the new “Poptropica Worlds.” And before I knew it, I had transferred my old account into an account for Poptropica Worlds! I’d missed a few new island releases too, and just in two days, I returned to my old Poptropica routine. To this day, I still continue to follow Poptropica every single day.

So yeah. That’s “My Place in Poptropica.” I hope you guys enjoyed it!

Hello, people! I’m Unknown Shadow! Here’s a “My Place in Poptropica” post. I’m not the best at writing, but here we go!

2013 | The Not-So-Dramatic Beginning

When I was 9 years old, I was bored on a weekend one day, so I went on my computer and decided to search up “Fun Free Games.” I found one with a fun art style called “Poptropica” that didn’t need a download, so I clicked on it.

I spent about an hour creating my first character, or “Poptropican,” as I would later learn it was called. Most of that time was spent randomizing the character’s name until I got one I liked: “Silly Sword.” My username, which I still use today, was lula4schmidt.

When I was ready, I hovered over the blimp and entered the world of Poptropica. I’m pretty sure the first island I stepped into was Super Power Island, though I don’t remember if I ever beat it.

2014 | Is there such thing as TOO obsessed?

Soon, I went into “special interest mode” and became absolutely OBSESSED. I spent all my spare time on Poptropica. If I wasn’t playing Pop, I was begging my parents for a membership. When they finally gave in one day, I got everything in the store that I was able to, since members could get all store items for free.

My most vivid Poptropica memory from back then is having my character in a wolf costume on Shark Tooth Island. I printed out a picture of one of my outfits, and I think I still have it. I also remember that at one point, a bug in the game turned my girl character into a boy.

Also, I found the PHB, and even made my own Poptropica blog. Mine was really bad—the name was something like “The Pop and Bop.” But I was confident and went ahead with it anyway.

2015–2016 | Oh…

In 2015, I was diagnosed with depression. With the depression, I didn’t have the motivation to do anything, not even play Poptropica. I felt sadder and sadder with each passing day.

Then in 2016, I started questioning my gender. (Spoiler: I’m trans.) I also went into therapy. I logged into Poptropica every once in a while, but not much. By the end of the year, I had stopped playing completely.

2017| Yay!

Sometime this year, I found an old bookmark on my laptop that I had some vague memories of. Yup, it was Poptropica. And I clicked on it.

I made a new (boy!) account called “ace-hq” and logged in to my old favorite website. And even now, I’m still playing.

Why do Poptropicans change their look so much?

This is a question I get a lot on sites like Quora, which is a question asking-and-answering website I discovered recently. Anyway, I’ve wondered about this question myself. I’m not one to frequently change my appearance in-game, but when I do change it, I look back on how I looked before, and I think to myself:

“Wow, did I REALLY look that bad?”

And that is why I believe we like to change our avatars around so much. We see something that looks better in our eyes, so we feel like changing to it. But that doesn’t mean we have to change.

I don’t change my character on the game very much for two reasons:

  1. because I am content with what I have.
  2. because the items I own took a lot of effort to collect them all in just the way I like it, even though I got most of them through the PHB’s Avatar Studio Gift.

My recommendation? Be content with what you have! So many people are always anxious about how they look, and in this game, it’s no different. Look, I’m
not saying you shouldn’t be open to change. I don’t want you to get bored with your avatar.

I always try to achieve the point of perfection with how I look. When I see someone else with a cool skin tone on Poptropica, I don’t covet it. I think, “Oh wow, that looks really cool, but I’m content with my own.”

If I do want to change, it’s never a big change. I might change my beard style a little here, or change my eyes a little there. But I try to have a standard recognizable avatar, like  Thinknoodles, the YouTube gamer known for his Poptropica walkthrough videos, among others. He almost never changes his avatar, and it looks pretty cool.
