Fanfic: Zombies, Zombies, ALWAYS ZOMBIES! 🧟 Ep. 9: Tangled in Time, Part 1

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Magic Kid. Enjoy!

Hey ya’ll, I’m here with— MWAHAHAHA— the next episode in Zombies, Zombies, ALWAYS ZOMBIES!! (Catch the beginning here, or previous episode here.) I am having WAY too much fun writing this, and I’m starting to feel like a villain with all my dark plans… so… yeah. Also, thank you guys so much for voting me third place for the Poppies awards, I was surprised and flattered that so many people were willing to give their votes to my little fanfic. I got WAY more votes than I thought I’d get! Thank you! Last episode ended in a cliffhanger, and I suppose you wanna find out what happens next. So I’ll let you have at it! Enjoy!

ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES, ALWAYS ZOMBIES!

A Zomberry Series

Episode Nine: Tangled in Time, Part One

The swirling of light and color then gives them the feeling of going backwards very fast. The light breaks up and soon they are on a grass field by a nice tree. The air is not dusty, like the place they had left; in fact, it is clean and crisp with only a handful of fluffy clouds in the blue, bright sky.

Clumsy Bird

Is this heaven?

Toothpick sits up, breaking the calm. He then pinches himself. The pain is real.

Toothpick

I don’t think so… what year is this?

Hawk is already on his feet, looking around. A lovely waterfall rushes nearby. A sign, with splashes of paint, reads: Leo’s Workshop, with an arrow pointing up a path by the waterfall.

Hawk

Come on, let’s come up here, and see if this Leo can help us get to the time that we need to.

Icy Stone

Hold up! What time do you need to get to? And what for?

Hawk decides to confess their real plans.

Hawk

We want to go back in time to stop the zombie apocalypse from happening.

Icy Stone

Okay… and WHY were you not telling me this until now?

Clumsy Bird steps into the conversation.

Birdy

Because we don’t really know you, and you stowed away on his blimp! You haven’t exactly given us a reason to trust you—

Icy Stone

Okay, would you rather me NOT have unlocked the door?

Toothpick

Oh, look! I think that’s Leo, that old guy in the window, come on!

Icy Stone still seems like she’d continue the argument, but Toothpick hurriedly startsd going up the hill. Birdy chases after him and catches up.

Feeling awkward, and using this opportunity to stop the argument that was sure to come, he goes too.

And then—after an eye roll— Stone follows them too.

Up the steep path they go. Toothpick and Birdy talk loudly, while Hawk kind of hides from Stone’s view by walking just ahead of Toothpick.

They make it up a hill, past a clear waterfall.

And then Birdy knocks on the door of the workshop three times.

Knock, knock, knock.

There is a rustling of papers and the door creaks open.

Leo

Oh! Hello visitors! What do ye seek of me?

Hawk

We’re not sure…

He realizes that it would be impossible to go anywhere without a time travel device! How would they be able to get back?

He starts to get nervous.

Very nervous.

Toothpick seems to have come to the same discovery, but he decides tell Leo about the zombies—kind of, because he said:

Toothpick

The future is in trouble.

Leo

I suppose you are all from the future? Hmm. I’ll finish my painting later.

He gestures to the unfinished Mona Lisa. Birdy’s jaw drops.

Leo

What’s wrong with the future?

Toothpick

Zombies. They’ve taken over!

Toothpick shows Leo a picture that he got of the zombies.

Leo

What a perfect painting! Hmm.

Leo fiddles with a paintbrush that has yellow paint on it.

Leo

What if you counteract the purple fruit with a yellow fruit, as the colors contradict each other? Ha! That would never work. I’m sorry, though, I don’t know what would work!

Hawk

Do you know how we’d get back to the time we needed?

Leo

You’re asking me about futuristic time travel technology? I don’t know what to tell you!

Stone

We… don’t have a way to get back?!

Hawk

Yeah! We don’t have a way back!

Stone

OOOOHH, I see. First you tell him about your plan, faster than you told me, and now you don’t have a way back and TRAPPED US HERE?!

Hawk

MAYBE I DID!

Toothpick

HEY! STOP FIGHTING!

Birdy

STOP YELLING!

Hawk

I’M NOT YELLING, I’M JUST RAISING MY VOICE!!

Stone

THAT’S YELLING!

Leo

WHAT?

Pick

CHEESE AND CRACKERS! WHAT’S THAT?!

Pick points to a small brass clock that had appeared on the table.

Birdy

GUYS! It’s a time travel device! We can go to the time we need!

Leo

Thank goodness!

Pick

BYE LEO!

Hawk also grumbles a goodbye.

Birdy turns it to the time they need to get to, and after the confusion with Leo, and the outbreak of argument, the four “friends” disappear in a bright white light, and they are gone, to another time, with a flabbergasted Leo left to finish perhaps the most famous painting in the world.

Meanwhile…

On a rocky island far out in the sea, a black helicopter lands — on the base where the zombie apocalypse began.

Interesting things are about to happen.

Very interesting things indeed.
