This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Bony Catfish, who’s had a lot of fun on her Poptropica journey, particularly within the blogging community, but currently has other priorities in her life. See the bottom of this post for details on sending in your own MPIP!

Hey guys, Bony Catfish aka BC aka Ingrid here. After seeing all the other “My Place in Poptropica” posts, I figured I’d send one in too.

Late 2009 – early 2010 | The Beginning of Bony Catfish

The day I got introduced to the Poptropican world all started when I was in first grade. I was on Funbrain doing the basic first grade math and an ad for Poptropica was there. Six-year-old me was thinking, “What even is that game? Is it a good game or bad?” I was quite the outgoing and curious child back in the day, so I clicked on the flashing Poptropica ad and it led me to the home page.

“This seems so familiar,” I thought. Then I remembered that my friend had told me about it. She was telling me how she completed these islands and had this cool character with a cool hat… blah blah blah. I made a character which lasted for a good two years before forgetting about the game and then my password. Just kidding, I was exaggerating, it was for a couple months, you see little ol’ me couldn’t really remember her Poptropica years as a kid. I can’t even remember my Poptropican’s name (although, I’m pretty sure it got glitched for some weird reason and it’s probably “Undefined Undefined”). My username for my old account is lara1720 by the way! 😉

2011 – 2012 | Actually completing the islands

I was pretty much used to Poptropica and its concept a year after making my account: Explore islands. Collect (ummm, I actually forgot and I still don’t even know what you “collect” in Poptropica to this day. I’m gonna need to talk to Jeff Kinney). Complete islands. You only need half a brain cell in order to figure out what Poptropica really is about.

Anyways, I went backwards (’cause why the heck not) and completed Astro-Knights Island. To be fair I regretted doing that because I didn’t even know what to do or where to even start. I played Poptropica for 30 minutes in the weekends because back then, I had a curfew and I had to finish ALL my homework because education came first… however, there may have been some exceptions at times where I was able to go play Pop. This was also the era where my parents were worried about internet safety so I had to hide my screen whenever they were here.

I didn’t know how to complete the island, so I  explored a little bit, y’know, experimented with stuff, like, figure it out myself. That obviously didn’t work so I called my friend to see if she knew. She actually forgot how she played the island, so I went on YouTube to watch some walkthroughs. I was one of those people who needed to actually see what to do so just listening didn’t work. I watched the video only to realize I was also one of those people who can’t pay attention and needs to watch something again and again.

It took a while to finish the video, but I finally figured it out. I did the exact same steps and before you know it, I got a medallion. That’s how I completed islands from then on, using video guides, and the rest was just me using my brain.

March 2014 | Bloggin’ ’bout Pop

I took a break from Poptropica for a year and a half break (not really, I just forgot about it) but remembered when someone mentioned “Poptropica” in a chatroom. So I went on Poptropica, only to realize I’d forgotten my password. I made a new account with a new username (my current one; add me @ Dr.FunTimesXD ; yes I was a Gravity Falls fanatic) and it kinda stunk that I had to complete all the islands again that I’d already done on my old account, and complete the newer ones on top of that. It took a while, but I was up to date with islands afterwards.

I also read written walkthroughs from that point on, on Poptropica blogs. The thought finally came to me, “What if I made a blog too?” I was one of those people who “made my can’ts into cans and my dreams into plans” and I soon made a blog straight outta WordPress. Again, this is the era where my parents were really cautious about who I talked to online, so I had to be extra careful.

The blog did go through some changes as it grew, from Bony Catfish’s Poptropica Blog, to Poptropica 411, to Poptropica Rewind. The blog wasn’t very pop-ular from the start (see what I did there 😉 ) and so I really had to get my name out there. I commented on people’s posts on other blogs, added blog posts, had people advertise my name, you know, all that jazz. I then realized that blogging is a whole lot of fun and I wouldn’t want to stop from here. I made new friends, found new stuff, some great facts, and saw Pop from a different light.

October 2014 | Not about that Poptropica life

After school was out, I was more busy on Pop and working on the blog. Then because school has to ruin my Pop life, 6th grade came around and I was busier than ever. So busy, I couldn’t even touch the computer. I also went on a three-week trip to Europe (somewhere) to visit my cousins. While I was there, I would still visit the Poptropica blogs here and there to see how things were going, but I was too busy to post. I also didn’t play Pop as frequently as I used to, so I gave up on Pop and blogging altogether because school is my first priority before anything else.

2016 | You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone

I’m busy with a lot of things right now. As a 7th grader, I’ve lost my interest and time with Poptropica. I do other things (such as band, my phone, social media, softball, etc) and don’t even touch Pop. I was lucky enough to find a weekend to write this up, because on other weekends, I’m just so tired from school and use the time to hang out with my irl friends and a bunch of other things.

I still go on the PHC (the PHB’s chat) to reconnect with my Pop and blogging friends. When they talk about Poptropica, I miss out on a lot and it makes me want to go on Poptropica because of every update after update. You won’t really find me blogging but you’ll find me chatting at the PHC. If you remember me, remember to stop by to say hi to me, I’ll most likely remember you.

To all new and current Poptropicans: I wish you the best of luck. You might be overwhelmed with all the new updates and islands Poptropica has for you, but I hope you make as much of a difference as I did. It’s not about completing islands, it’s about having fun in the Poptropica world. And someday you may become bloggers like I was, and have fun with that too.

  7. Hi! I’m back (not that you’ve noticed). It’s just that there have been a lot of feild trips,and it was very emotional leaving a place you’ve been for six years. I guess I’m now officially a middle schooler, but now I don’t heave to keep in those annoying lines.
    Aaaaaany way… Awesome story! BC!

  11. Great my place in Poptropica.In the ending were you said in the Poptropica help blog chat I will most likely remember you.One question do you remember me!!!? I also like when you said you are going to miss me when I am gone the cup song Easter egg!!

  13. It took me forever but I finally rewrote my MPiP to meet the word limit.

    My Place in Poptropica: Clean Shark
    2007-2008: Discovery| Back in 2007, I frequently visited the Funbrain website. I found an advertisement for this thing called Poptropica. My older sister told me that she played this game at school a lot, and she introduced it to me. I immediately got hooked to it and played it frequently, even though the only island was Early Poptropica at the time. I remember there not being a blimp at all. I wondered if it would ever get something new, and I think I saw a “Coming Soon: Shark Tooth Island” on the home page. That got me excited, and soon Shark Tooth came out. It was fantastic, even though I didn’t know how to beat it for a while. However, I figured it out and I replayed it and Early Poptropica frequently. Now that there was a blimp and a map, I could see the upcoming islands, Time Tangled and Monster Carnival. I knew that I would enjoy this game for a long time. Island after Island came out, and the game just got bigger. I found out how to save, and I got costumes from the new Poptropica Store. It felt amazing.

    2009-2011: That Unimportant Middle Part| Honestly, nothing truly interesting happened during these years. Sure, the map was enormous and I completed every island with the official guide book, but other than that I didn’t really remember anything too interesting. I think the coolest thing that happened at this time was when Wimpy Wonderland came out, because I was a huge Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan at the time, and seeing my favorite book and favorite game come together was amazing.

    2012-2013: Discovering the Community| Twisted Thicket, I swear. I wanted to beat it so badly since it had just came out, but I had no clue how to complete it. I gave up. Then, I realized something. “What if I just looked up a guide on the internet?” Then I found the Poptropica Help Blog. I looked around and found the guide to Twisted Thicket, and I soon joined the community as “clean shark”. Not the most interesting name, heh. I used guides on tons of islands I didn’t know how to complete, and I knocked out every single one. It felt amazing. I found out all sorts of stuff about Poptropica. I learned about the mystery of that Monster Carnival Island that had disappeared years before. I found out all sorts of information about Poptropica. I was completely invested.

    2014-2015: Losing Interest| Before this time, I thought I’d never stop playing Poptropica. Boy, was I wrong! At this point, I just completely lost interest in the game. I started thinking the game was becoming terrible, with Episodic Islands and such. I could care less about it, but I occasionally logged on to keep my account active, since I had some valuable stuff in it. However, the Poptropica Help Blog introduced me to communities on the Internet, and I eventually made friends online on sites like Google+. I didn’t know if I’d ever come back to Poptropica, but I thought I might since I knew people regain interest in stuff they liked when they were younger. And speaking of regaining interest….

    2016: Returning to Poptropica| Near the end of the school year, I found Poptropica on the App Store. Since I easily got bored at school, I downloaded the app and played some of the classic Islands on there, 24 Carrot and Time Tangled respectively. I saw an Island called “Escape from Pelican Rock”, and it was about breaking out of prison. I thought it sounded rather interesting, and so I played it. I fell in love with it, and I thought that perhaps I was wrong about Poptropica going downhill. I played the other Islands like Poptropicon (which I loved) and such. I decided to return to the Poptropica Help Blog to get out of spots where I got stuck, and I eventually came back into the community. I have a bad habit of typing overly-long comments, though, haha. I’m a pretty big fan of Poptropica again and I’m eager to see how Poptropica 2.0 turns out.

    Conclusion: I’m a longtime fan of Poptropica, and being in the Poptropica community led me to become an internet star! (not really… just kinda well known on Google+…) Anyway, my name is Clean Shark, and this was My Place in Poptropica!
