It’s that time of the year again: Halloween is approaching, and that means it’s time for the PHB’s annual Halloween costume competition! Now for the 6th year in a row, you can enter your best creepy costume and hope to win a spot on the PHB’s Costumes page (plus, they’ll be featured on the PHB’s front page when the winners are announced on Halloween (October 31, when the contest ends).

This year, because of our (upcoming) recently achieved milestone of 14 million blog hits (as of October 16), we’ll be showcasing fourteen of our favorites as winners! Sound awesome yet?

Before you rush out to put together your masterpiece, please keep these rules in mind:

  1. IDEAS: Be original! We like to see that you’ve put effort into creating something spooky yet fashionable for the season, so simply copying (as opposed to mixing and matching) will probably hurt your chances. There are some great costume parts at the ghoul gathering from the end of the Haunted House quest from the Store, as well as the collection of recently-made-free costumes in the Store, but be creative and search in other places too!
  2. DON’T CHANGE: Keep your costume intact until after the winners are announced. If you change your costume back, we may not get to see your spooktacular entry! If you don’t want to keep the costume on your main account, you can create a new one and post that instead.
  3. ENTERING: After you’ve created your costume, here’s how you should post your entry: go to the Avatar Studio, type in your username, click Load, click on the Link to highlight it, right-click and choose Copy, go to the comments section on this post, right-click and choose Paste, type in your comment and submit so we can view your costume by clicking the link! Name your costume and post the username if you want. If you are having problems with the Avatar Studio, just post the username so we can check it. You may submit as many different entries as you like, but you can only win a maximum of one time (out of the 14 winners to be chosen).

  8. Oh man, I wasn’t around for last year’s competition. I’m going to enter this year! I wonder what I’ll be? (Unfortunately I don’t celebrate Halloween anymore, because it’s socially unacceptable for a kid my age to be ‘trick or treating’ in my town.) Tricks and Treats? More like Tricks and Cheats! -winks- 😉

    1. The contest ends on Halloween (Oct 31), so costumes should stay intact until then. If you prefer, you can use a new account to show off your costume instead of your main account. 😉

    1. For submissions, please provide the Avatar Studio link – if you prefer to submit a screenshot, make sure it is good quality and from the Avatar Studio (see the Halloween section of the Costumes page for what that should look like). 😉

      Also, you don’t have to state where each costume part came from (although that might be helpful to others who are curious), and they don’t all have to be customizable for everyone.

      1. If you want you could say where you got every part from, but it isn’t necessary.
        I see no rule saying that everything has to be customizable, so you’re good! 🙂

      2. If you want a witch costume, customize 3cupcakesleft. But the wand came from everything173, and the gold necklace from the skylanders ad.

  26. Do you have to send an Avatar Studio link, or can you send a screen-shot (with Lightshot, for example)? Thanks! 😀

An Avatar Studio link works easiest, but if you prefer to submit a screenshot, make sure that 1) it is taken from the Avatar Studio link (see the Halloween section of the Costumes page for what that should look like), and 2) the screenshot still exists on the website you upload to by Halloween (some websites will delete images off their servers to save space after a period of time). 🙂

  43. Hey PHB! Here is my entry…
    These are the items/features I used:
    – Medusa Hair
    – Zombie Eyes (But I used the No Eye Glitch to make it blank)
    – Captain C’s Mouth
    – Dark Green Skin (To match the hair)
    – Demon Wings
    – Black Widow T-shirt (To make it as he’s in a spooky club lol)
    – Captain C’s Peg Leg (The gold one)
    – Rope (Like samwow5’s)
    – And the Pan/Pipe Flute (To make it like he’s summoning creepy creatures of Halloween wooooo)

    Sorry if this was unnecessary, I wanted to state my clothing 🙂

  44. Excuse me, slanted fish, but how do you know when there is new entries? I just posted another one as a reply to my first one, will you see that? Are you stopping entries after a certain date so you can choose? Just want a little bit more details so I can be sure I’m doing this right!

    1. I’ll see all entries as long as they’re commented on this post, but it would be great if new entries can be posted as new comments rather than replies. Entries will continue to be accepted until winners are announced on Halloween. 🙂
