A Pop Down Memory Lane

Hi Gs,

Poptropica has been around for 6 years, and over that period of time, many things have happened. I felt compelled to post this because with all the new things happening, the community seems to think that we’re losing sight of the genius Poptropica that we once knew. But right now, I’m here to tell you that we’re not necessarily losing Poptropica. Let’s begin! 😀

When Poptropica started back in 2007, it was nothing more than a playground for the educational FunBrain.com. It was a place that kids could take a break. Unsurprisingly, Poptropica became more popular than FunBrain itself.

So, Poptropica started to get popular. It was mid-2008. The Poptropica Help Blog was born. I also want to mention that around this time, Monster Carnival Island appeared and disappeared on the map. 😉

We started getting hints of the Poptropica Store with some animal costumes — one of which (the lamb) has never been released. Maybe the Creators should get to that soon… 😛 And what happened to that pesky monkey?

In early 2009, rumors of Poptropica Membership leaked, and about a year later, it became a reality.

Popularity Contests were started by the Creators. They continued for a while and then stopped… Who thinks that the PHB should do them again?

Those were the days. Everything was so new. *wipes tear* Let’s use our time machine to go forward to the brisk year of 2013.

Poptropica now has its own DS game. That’s impressive. The Friends feature has been added as well. And there’s even books — and clothing! And woaahhhh! Look at that list of toys! You could never get bored with all thi– never mind, I’m already bored.

But all is well! It’s just our regular Poptropica that we know and love. There are some minor changes, but nothing major. It’s not like Poptropica is going to have sound all of a sudden. 😆

Welp, that settles it. All is lost. Adios. Poptropica is far and beyond what it once was.

It has morphed into a monster.

Six months after that, Monster Carnival Island is finally announced to come out.

Poptropica really likes messin’ with our feelings.

My point in going over many of the changes that Poptropica has gone through is not to throw you into despair. Let’s take a look at one of the pages from the Official Guide Book:

And with that, our journey ends. Or not. Poptropica lives on. We should too.

Happy birthday, Jeff Kinney!

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

jeffkinneycardYou may know him as Comic Kid, you may know him as the writer of the Wimpy Kid series, but whatever you know him as, let’s wish him a happy birthday! Jeff Kinney is 43 today!

If you’re wondering who he is, Jeff Kinney is the main creator of Poptropica (he came up with the idea), along with the other titles I listed above. There is a contest being held by Pizza Hut’s “Book It” program, where you can win the full Wimpy Kid book set! Find the details here. 😀

I thought it was appropriate to make a birthday card for Jeff, so here it is! 😛 Comment here with your name and message on this post to sign it! 😀

Future Island, stickers, and more

Hi Gs,

Who likes stickers? Are you questioning where I’m going with this?

This post may seem very uncertain, but please stick with me to the end. Here is the premise: I happened to look up Poptropica Books on Amazon one day perhaps a week ago. All the normal, released books came up until I got to the end of the list. Two new books without any covers sat there. Their names were “Poptropica: Future Island”, and “Ultimate Sticker Collection: Poptropica”.

Now, before you go looking up those books, I have to clarify something: Future Island is no longer there. It disappeared the day that the Creators announced the two new Poptopic books. Sadly, I don’t have anything but a memory of it; and you’ll just have to take my word for it! 😛

But first, about this sticker collection: it’s scheduled to be released July 21, 2014. Here’s the description:

Welcome to the fantastical world of Poptropica® with Ultimate Sticker Collection: Poptropica®! Kids will explore the Islands and meet the colorful characters. They can re-create scenes from their adventures online or create exciting new ones with more than 1,000 full-color fun stickers. Full of fun facts and interesting information about kids’ favorite virtual world, Poptropica, the fun will never end with this new ultimate sticker collection from DK!

Now, back to Future Island — this is the major question; is this going to be an actual island? All I know is that none of the recent SUIs have been made into books. It was scheduled to be released sometime in August, and there was no description. Time Tangled Island already has a section of time dedicated to the future, so this would be a little more than unoriginal. The Creators are rumored to be running out of ideas (Dream Island Contest then Monster Carnival), so is this possible? And could they release a book based on the island the same year the island is released?

Further more, futureisland.com leads to an error page… but it was made in 2007, the same year “poptropica.com” was made. It may be a subdomain of Poptropica that hasn’t been finalized yet. No solid proof, but just something to think about.

So what do you think? Is Future Island an upcoming island? Leave your ideas and theories in the comments. 🙂 And in relation to Fuzzy B’s latest post, could Future Island be about ruin coming to our beloved islands in the future?

Behind the Name: Samwow5

Hello everyone! Recently, I saw a post HP did about his name, and I thought well, I have a pretty unique story of my name too. So I asked HP if I can make a post about this, and he’s like sure, so here it is everyone! When I started playing Poptropica, I was using my brother’s account for a year, and it all started when I made an account with the user called Samwow5……

Samwow5pic

In 2010-2011 they had this commercial on TV called the “Shamwow Towel” It will clean anything food stain or spilt mess up. My parents made fun of it saying “Samwow the Great” xD, Then after a month or two, I thought about making a Poptropica account with the name “Samwow”. I went to Poptropica and the name Samwow wasn’t available to use, so I picked 5 (because it was one of my favorite numbers, and still is today) Then I put 5 after Samwow and I got Samwow5!

In the name section, I was picking a name like “Fast Lightning” or something, and I was about to click save and my computer shut off for some reason. I don’t know if it was fate or something, but the first name that popped up after that was “Tough Icicle”. It was the perfect match, I loved that name so I saved it and started playing Poptropica on that account, and soon after that I started blogging….. 😀

Behind the Name: HPuterpop

Hi Gs,

Well, I told you that I would explain my name some time or another; I guess this is the time!

My Signature (full)

How do you like my logo? I whipped it up recently and added it to my Gravatar. 😉

It all started when my kindergarten teacher sent me a list of cool website links… I am part of an online school; I was back then as well, so getting emails from my teacher wasn’t weird in kindergarten. 😆

On the list was a sprouting website, FunBrain.  FunBrain, Poptropica, and Fact Monster all link in together through the Family Education Network, and so logically there were Poptropica links everywhere (There were Fact Monster links too, but I went for the useless stuff.  I could tell which was which. 😉 ) I clicked the Poptropica ad, and then took a couple minutes trying to pronounce “Poptropica”. When I finally (didn’t) figure out how to say it, I clicked on the “New Player” butto– I’m not going walk you through everything I did, but instead, here’s a valuable piece of information: I did not know how to read. I was only 5, come on! I had to fabricate my age when creating a character! I guess that just proves that I loved Poptropica even before I could play it. 😛

At the time, I was already way too computer influenced.  If ANYONE reading this played Humongous Entertainment games (Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt and Pep) or the Jump-start games when they were younger, tell me in the comments.  Poptropica was the new love of my life.  The genius who combined the two was no other than… my mom.  “Puterpop” was born, and still lives on, also known as Messy Sinker (actually, you can friend me @ “puterpop”.  Seriously, go do that.  I get really *cough* lonely*cough* (I have no friends (AND a parenthesis in a parenthesis (AND there it is again…))).

But what about the ‘H’ in my name? How did that get there?

I’m getting to that. You see, I was using “Puterpop” for everything I signed up for. But, I started using it a while back, because soon everyone was using ‘Puterpop’. I needed a new and unique username. I first used ‘puterpoptropica’. That wasn’t very unique, was too long, and was also my second Poptropica account… but why did I have a second account? That’s another story for another time. 😉

I don’t know how I came to assumption that HP was HD. That was the reasoning behind me putting the H there. I thought that HP meant high definition (I obviously wasn’t paying attention), and I rocked that username for a long time. Really silly, actually, and I realized it when I was explaining it to my Mom. I was like, “I’m cool now becawz my name means high definition.  Get it?  HP?  High Defin– oh crud.”.
