CYDI runner-up #10: Symphony Island

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced the 10th runner-up of CYDI (Create Your Own Dream Island) contest, which was Symphony Island, submitted by Erika M. of Nebraska!

A MUSIC ISLAND! YAY! I love this island idea already! This is so cool; I want to know the plot right now! Here’s why the Creators liked the idea:

The pitch: Karl Notune hates music — and has an evil plan! It’s up to you to save the music before it’s too late!

Why we liked it: Now that we have music and sound effects on Poptropica, it’s a great idea to make a whole Island about music. Erika suggested that players would be able to play many different instruments — including piano, saxophone, and drums — and gave us a funny villain in “Karl Notune.” This entry rocked!

Wow! I would really love to play this island – great island idea, Erika! Anyway, here’s a snippet of the interview with Erika (Fast Fire) – you can read the rest on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?

Erika: I was brainstorming ideas for the island, and then I realized that I wanted to listen to music. Then it hit me, what about a musical Island?! Plus I always loved instrumental music.

Wow, Erika, you must really love music! I would like to personally applaud you for this entry! If you’re reading this, Erika, the PHB would love to hear more about your island idea, so feel free to comment below.

Anyway, this means that all ten CYDI runner-ups have been announced! Stay tuned to the PHB for my personal review/recap of each of the runner-ups’ and the winner’s island ideas. 🙂

Wow! A weather island! Not my favorite, but it sounds kind of cool! I wonder what it was gonna be like? Here’s why the Creators liked the idea:

The pitch: Your Poptropican travels alongside one of Poptropica’s most famous meteorologists and tracks a dangerous series of storms.

Why we liked it: “This is gold,” someone said when reading Laura’s entry, and nobody disagreed. What an exciting idea! In Stormchaser Island, players would travel the hemisphere trying to discover the source of increasingly powerful storms. Our sound effects team would love to take on this challenge!

…Now, this is sounding way cooler! And it confirms that Poptropica does have a sound effects team! This island idea is just getting better, and better, and better. Anyway, here’s a snippet of the interview with Laura (Blue Horse) – you can read the rest on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?

Laura: I spent a lot of time thinking about my idea, and after a few tries, it just came to me!

Wow, Laura! You are really imaginative! If you’re reading this, the PHB would love to hear more about your island idea. Anyway, that’s all for now!

CYDI runner-up #8: Space Bar Island

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced the 8th runner-up of CYDI (Create Your Own Dream Island) contest! The island was Space Bar Island, submitted by Naomi P. of North Carolina!

A computer-themed island! Wow! I’d like to see this island! Here’s why the Creators liked the idea:

The pitch: On Space Bar Island, you’re trapped in the newest computer, the “Lap Life,” and you meet who’s really running the internet.

Why we liked it: Cyberpunk is another underserved genre on Poptropica. The idea of seeing the internet from the inside-out is a great one, and Naomi took it to the next level with a terrific villain: a pixelated woman called “Mother Board,” who controls the entire internet!

Wow! The villain, Mother Board, sounds awesome (and the name is pretty clever, I might add)! I’d think this island is 3rd on the list for me! The best of course (just my opinion) was House of Cards, with Shakespeare Island in second. Anyway, here’s a snippet of the interview with Naomi (Sleepy Panda) – you can read the rest on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?

Naomi: I came up with the idea while using one of my personal devices and thought of the two most popular technology companies in the world, Apple and Microsoft. Since the these two companies are “rivals” I thought what would happen if they came together. Would they have great success or have no success at all? That’s how Orange Door incorporated came together.

Wow, Naomi! You are really clever! If you’re reading this, the PHB would love to hear more about your island idea. Anyway, that’s all for now!

CYDI runner-up #7: Shakespeare Island

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced the 7th runner-up of CYDI (Create Your Own Dream Island) contest! The island was Shakespeare Island, submitted by Kailey W. of Minnesota!

A Shakespeare Island, wow! Here’s why the Creators liked the idea:

The pitch: Players help Shakespeare put on a Romeo and Juliet play. Players sign up to be an actor, backstage organizer, or costume designer. But during the show, another actor gets stage fright and players will have to dress up and sing the song.

Why we liked it: First of all, who doesn’t love the Bard? Second, from the costumes to the scenery, this would be an excellent setting for a Poptropica Island. Last but not least, Kailey’s idea to let the player take on one of a few different roles would be an interesting game mechanic for us to explore. This was a very well thought-out entry!

Wow! That would be cool! I think this is one of the cool islands that should of won (House of Cards was the best in my opinion), here’s a secret fact about me that I never told anyone… I love poetry, and I love plays and novels, like Shakespeare’s. Anyway, here’s a snippet of the interview with Kailey – you can read the rest on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?
Kailey: I’ve always had a passion for theatre so I thought it would be a fun idea.

Wow, Kailey! I didn’t know you had that passion too! If you’re reading this, the PHB would love to hear more about your island idea. Anyway, that’s all for now!

CYDI runner-up #6: Prehistoric Island

Hey everyone! The Creators just announced the 6th runner-up for Create Your Dream Island (CYDI) contest: Prehistoric Island, submitted by Sofia W. of Illinois!

11f36-friendlycactus

At first I thought it wasn’t original; I thought it would be one of those islands that everyone sent in. But… this is different, and here’s why the Creators liked it:

The pitch: A paleontologist built a time portal to study living dinosaurs, but something went wrong and now dinosaurs are coming into the 21st century. Poptropicans must reassemble the time portal and send them back.

Why we liked it: Sofia wasn’t the only person to send us an idea about dinosaurs, but hers stood apart in two ways. First, she had the dinosaurs coming into the present day, which is a fun twist. Second, Sofia reached out to two real-life paleontologists, Jack Horner and Larry Witmer, to ask if she could include them as characters on her Island — and they both said yes! Way to go the extra mile, Sofia!

Wow! Reaching out to real life paleontologists – way to go, Sofia! Also, here’s a snippet of the interview with Sofia – you can read the whole thing on the Creators’ Blog.

Poptropica Creators: How did you come up with the idea for your Island?
Sofia: I came up with the idea for Prehistoric Island from my life-time love of dinosaurs and everything ancient.

Wow! This island would have been cool to have; even though dinosaurs have been suggested before, they’ve never actually been implemented into Poptropica. Also, Sofia, if you’re reading this, I’d like to interview you and get the full plot of your island! Congrats Sofia! 🙂
