  1. I have some questions about the contest–

    1. Does it have to be a single page of artwork, or could it be like a comic?
    2. If I’m a terrible artist (which I am) do I still have a chance at winning?
    3. To get the artwork to you, does it need to be uploaded onto a computer via camera and then posted, or is there another way?
    4. The art must be hashtagged on the Poptropica account, not the contestants’ own, right?
    5. Are the contestants’ profiles, including their real names and other personal information, available to anyone at any time in the course of the contest?

Sorry about all the questions, but I just want to make sure I have it right.

    1. Hey there,

      1) That’s up to you! Multi-page comics are probably acceptable, as long as they are all hashtagged #PoptropicaArt so Poptropica can find them.

      2) The winners are picked by Poptropica – so that’s up to them! Just do your best, and don’t worry if you’re not the best; there is always going to be someone better, but you can still improve. 🙂

      3) The rules state that the image must be uploaded online (either Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram) with the hashtag #PoptropicaArt – that means there’s no mailing or other steps necessary.

      4) When you upload a picture online and hashtag it, it goes on your own account – that’s how it works, and Poptropica will see it as long as it’s public. Poptropica may choose to repost it, but they don’t have to do so, and as long as you’ve done what the previous sentence described, it’s entered into the contest.

      5) Not if you don’t make it so. The handle (name) of the account that posts an entry can be seen by anyone browsing the hashtag #PoptropicaArt, but you can use a pseudonym as most people in the community prefer to do (for example, mine is Slanted Fish). If you’re on Facebook, though, you may be using your real name, and that can be seen by others.

Hope that helps! If you would like to ask Poptropica for further clarification, feel free to reach out to Skinny Moon via their social media channels! 🙂

      1. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’m going to get to work now!

  2. Looks sick! I might just enter! (Note: you wrote ‘abnd’ instead of ‘and’. XD)

  3. This contest is going to be so AWESOME!!! I can’t wait to see all the awesome artwork! Also, whenever I try to enter the Slippery Raptor Blog, I’t says that it has been deleted. ????

  4. *Reads post, forgets to give it a like and comment just reads title, exits, screen, and begins drawing*

    1. If you can’t find an adult to post it for you, you can also contact someone in the Poptropica community with a social media account (the PHC is a good place to connect with other Poptropicans) and ask them to help you post it. However, please make sure your parents or legal guardian has approved of this (as the rules state) before you do so.

  5. Turns out I’ve had a Twitter account ever since 2012 and I completely forgot about creating it ^^’ . I took advantage of my undead account with my first #PoptropicaArt tweet (and 4th tweet overall) which ended up being retweeted on the Poptropica Creators’ Twitter XD . It was my Poptropican in Early Poptropican style a la pixel art, which you can see here(I’ve edited it slightly since Twitter): http://prnt.sc/bnyyob

It’ll be neat to see what amazing Pop Art is brewing among the Poptropica community from now to contest’s end 😛 .May the best Poptropicartistes win 😀 .

  6. So sad.. I don’t have any social media accounts… 😦 but I’m probably still going to draw something and not enter it.. 😄

    1. Aw, maybe you can find someone who has one to post on your behalf? Just make sure your parents have approved of this (as the rules state) before you ask for the favor! 🙂

  7. I AM SO ENTERING!! Even tho i’m HORRIBLE compared to a lot of chu but i’ll try!! :DD mostly cuz im broke so i cant buy membership hue hue ( cris )

oh well. I’ll think of something.

    1. Perhaps you can find someone (either an older person in your life or someone from the Poptropica community) who has an account to post on your behalf? Just make sure your parents say it’s okay (as the rules state) before you ask for the favor!

  9. MUST.MAKE.TWITTER.ASAP! :0
Have never actually entered an official Poptropica contest,so this better be good 😛

  10. LOL The Ultimate joke was funny, but the problem is that I’m wondering if Ican like post in on facebook on my brother’s account?

  11. So awesome for Poptropica to be doing an art contest! I’m excited to see the many cool artworks that will come of this, and encourage everyone to create something! Have fun!! 😀

  12. Hey everyone! If you don’t have a Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram account, ask an adult to post for you. Or maybe even a fellow Poptropican! We changed our Facebook page settings so you can post right to it with the #PoptropicaArt hashtag.

But as Slanted Fish said, just make sure your parent/guardian says it’s okay before you post (and read the official rules on the blog post: http://blog.poptropica.com/2016/06/announcing-poptropica-fan-art-contest.html

    Good luck to all!

  13. This is probably an extremely stupid question, but please answer anyway.

Part of my comic takes place in Ocarina of Time’s Spirit Temple, and I planned to use Link and the ST boss, Twinrova. However, my dad says I can’t because I don’t have Nintendo’s permission and it would be copyright infringement. I thought back to the original Poptropica comic where Oliver and Jorge were on a Wizard of Oz themed island, and I wondered if you had to get permission to use it and the characters that went with it. If not, that will sort of justify what I’m doing because I’m doing the same thing you did–messing up the story by introducing my own character, not plagiarizing the entire thing from start to finish. Please answer ASAP, because I would like to get back to work. Thank you.

    1. As it happens, The Wizard of Oz (the book) is in the public domain, as it was published before 1923 – meaning it’s not subject to copyright. The same cannot be said for Ocarina of Time or other creative works made after that time, so your dad has a point there about copyright infringement – unless your idea falls under parody law (which yours doesn’t seem to, as you aren’t making a parody of Nintendo’s property, but simply inserting it into your own work).

Poptropica likely has a legal obligation not to publish works that infringe on others’ copyrights, so to play it safe, it’s best to keep away from other copyrighted work. As previously mentioned, however, works of parody fall under fair use – so instead of making a carbon copy of Link in your comic, you might make a character named Pink who wears pink. Many examples of this are in PoptropiCon Island: for example, instead of Spider-Man, you have the Poptropican version – Teen Arachnid.

Plus, you are of course welcome to draw from your own imagination to create original ideas that you can mix into the Poptropica style. Have fun! 😀

      1. I’m not 100% sure if it would still work if I used parodies…also, I’m a minor, so would I still be in trouble if I did go ahead with my idea?

      2. I don’t think you would be “in trouble” with the law, especially since you aren’t making monetary profit from it, but using others’ copyrighted works might hurt your chances of Poptropica choosing your work as a winning piece (since winning = prize of membership, which has monetary value). Parodies are a safer route, as in Poptropica’s parodies of well-known superheroes in PoptropiCon.

      3. Would it still hurt my chances if I got Nintendo’s permission? I sent them an email asking for it, and I’m waiting for a response right now.

      4. It’s probably fine if you can get explicit written permission from them and let Poptropica know, but I don’t know what the chances of that would be.

  14. Also, to be clear, if my artwork features a character named Veleanor Volgram, she IS a Poptropican (with a custom name), so it will still be Poptropica-related.

    1. I’ve asked Poptropica to clarify for your situation, and here’s the reply:

So it looks like you’d be ok legally to enter it into the contest, but it probably wouldn’t win because it’s not fully Poptropica.

      1. Rats. Well, I may just send it in for fun, but I’ll do other things too. Also, Nintendo responded and said no according to standard policy, but I might be able to bypass that if I fall under a certain guideline. They recommended legal counsel to decide that, so my dad is going to talk to lawyer friends at work on my behalf.
