Hey Poptropicans! Just last week, I posted an open letter to Poptropica here on the PHB, addressing some improvements Poptropica should make to the game. To the PHB’s surprise, a Poptropica Creator has responded! With her permission,Ā the response has been postedĀ below. Enjoy! š
Dear Slanted Fish and Poptropicans everywhere,
On behalf of the Poptropica Creators, greetings!Ā I love your blog, and I read every post.Ā After your recent Open Letter, I wanted to personally respond and, hopefully, start a better dialogue with you.
First, an introductionā¦..Ā Iām Jen MacLean, and I joined the Family Education Network as the President of the Kids and Games division in November.Ā More importantly, Iām a lifelong gamer, a Poptropican, and the mom of a Poptropican.Ā Itās been a whirlwind few months as a new member of the Poptropica team, and one of my biggest priorities has been understanding where Poptropica needs to improve and helping the team build a roadmap to get us there.
So, āfess upā¦..Ā Have you been hiding in our offices?Ā Bugging our conference rooms? Ā Ā Youāve made some great points about how we need to make Poptropica better, and Iām excited to share that many of the ideas you proposed are already in development.
Iām happy to give you a sneak peek at some changes that are coming soon.Ā In the next few weeks, expect a new and improved experience for first-time players, including a brand new island specifically designed for new players.Ā Itās a short island, but weāre hoping it will really help new players better understand how to play and what Poptropica is all about.Ā Though itās design for new players, Iām sure veterans will get a kick out of it too, so not to worry!
We also understand and agree that we need to improve the Island experience for all Poptropicans!Ā We want to make it easier to teleport, find help, understand the quest, and identify the next steps in a quest.Ā Weāre not ready to share specific times and releases yet, but Ā we will keep you posted as we roll out improvements.Ā We are also looking at ways we can make a Poptropica membership even more valuable; weāll be updating our membership this Spring.
Iām so glad you brought up the āIām trapped in a classic island and canāt get outā issue.Ā Weāre working on a fix for that too, so very soon you should be able to leave classic islands from any scene.Ā Teleporting between scenes is a great idea, but it could end up breaking a lot of the islands; however, itās something weāll keep in mind though as we keep finding ways to make the player experience better.
An important part of any game development project is squashing bugs.Ā We need to get better at fixing the bad bugs and incorporating āgood glitchesā into the design of the game.Ā As part of that focus, weāll be starting a Friends and Family Beta Program this year, and we will be reaching out to you with more details when weāre ready to launch!
Speaking of reaching out, I know itās been hard to contact us.Ā Iām excited to introduce Jessica, our Official Poptropica Community Liaison. Ā Ā Jessica will share information with you on all things Poptropica, including product updates and improvements, and will make sure your comments, questions, and feedback are shared throughout the Poptropica Creators team.Ā Sheāll also help us understand and address some of your ideas and requests, including officializing a Poptropica wiki.
Last, but most importantly, THANK YOU!Ā Thank you for your wonderful support of Poptropica, for being a great resource for Poptropicans everywhere, and for being such a strong community.Ā Iām excited to get to know you better and to make Poptropica an even more amazing experience for you.
ā
Wow! It’s the first time a Poptropica Creator has contacted the PHB directly (with the exception of Jeff Heim during the Poppies) ā and this response certainly gives us a lot of hope about what’s to come out of Poptropica HQ in the future. A better tutorial, some form of teleportation, doing something about glitches both good and bad, and even the possibility of officializing the Poptropica Wiki are some things Poptropica’s currently working on, and that’s really awesome to hear. š
A huge shout-out and thanks toĀ Jen MacLean for taking the time to write to us and allowing her letterĀ to be published here!Ā On behalf of the PHB and Poptropica community, we look forward to more interactions with the powers-that-be at Poptropica HQ to make the game and community all the more awesome. We’re honored to have the Creators read the PHB, and we’re excited for what happens next.
What would you like to say to the Creators? Share in the comments below ā if this exchange has beenĀ any indication, they may well take you up on your suggestions (within reason, of course)!
Stay popping, everyone. š
āSlanted Fish š š
Wow! No wonder the Creators are so busy! I’m really exited for what’s going to come in the future. Wait a minute- a membership update? They better not make more islands members only. Please make the 7 members-only islands available to everyone again, Creators! Also, I have no idea what the “Friends and Family Beta Program” thing is. Guess I’ll find out soon. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this with us, Jen, it means a lot. š
I thought they will probably make more islands members-only, too.
Hopefully not, since I did advocate being careful about taking away what’s free. The backlash surrounding the 7 members-only islands should be a sign that that was not the best move. š I did suggest in my letter to show less ads to members (particularly those that don’t give prizes and just get in the way) ā hopefully that’s something they’ll do. š
Yeah and in the comments everyone was ranting about the 7 islands. But wow, your message really did impact them!
I think they should change the 7 members only islands and add more bonus quests. They should also update the classic islands so they’re SUI, because sometimes the classic islands lag.
Continuing the bonus quests is a good idea! š
Omg guys that is so cool!! š
You’re back! Yay!
Oh ya… Sorry for dissapearing guys… School Caught up to me….
y u do dis school….
It’s OK. I understand, school can be annoying at times.
Yeah lol
That’s pancake-flippin’ AWESOME SAUCE! Whoo! At least they read it!
Not just read it, but responded! Very awesome sauce. š
Much so indeed. Oh my Zeref I still can’t get over it! *fangirling*
AAAAAHHHH!!!! No way! Kyaaaaaa!! š
Lol
Great news! I’m glad to know their working on this, especially the teleportation idea. š
Yup, I think the Poptropica experience could really benefit from teleportation. š
I agree.
FIX THE MOCKTROPICA EXTREME LAG GLITCH!!!!
Please be respectful ā we know glitches can be frustrating, but that type of comment isn’t very helpful. The more specific you can be, the better chance that Poptropica developers can identify the problem and fix it in the game (contact Poptropica support here).
woah dude chill….
š im sorry.
I would like to see an option to change your name at will, but with a filter.
I also wanna see an island based around an apocolypse. Also I wanna see more handhelds, and maybe, just maybe, a make your own outfit station where you can customize any piece of outfit, any color, any pattern, ect.
A custom outfit station would by awesome! š
Zomberry Island is based on a zombie apocalypse. š But those ideas are pretty awesome!
What I mean, Fishstick (can I eat you with tartar sauce?), is not some cheesed Zomberry apocalypse. What I mean is some actual apocolypse, Poptropicans robbing stores, going nuts, and whatever the kid-friendly equivilant is to killing for survival.
I agree with the name choosing thing- I think we should be able to choose our names with the current options, but with a list or scroll down/up option.
Yeah, that would be pretty good, but Poptropica names are a magical thing. You don’t make up names. The all-powerful, mystical name genarator determines your name!
Of course! All things Poptropica are magical in one way or another. š
Yes-a-rooni š
Yes-a-rooni-eee-eee…eee… okay I’m leaving now.
Okay bye XD
lol :p
Oh man, wiki recognition!?!? Super pumped that you’ve noticed and I’d be thrilled (along with everyone else) if you would officialize it š
I can’t do anything but AGREE!! XD
I really want the poptropica creators to make the 7 members only island available to everyone. I miss it so much. I feel like replaying red dragon island. š¦
With the power of Keth’s Sammut’s site ( http://ipoptropica.weebly.com/ ) you can do just that! Once you reach the “membership-wall” in the bridge section of Red Dragon, you can skip that section straight to the other side from the iPOPTROPICA Backup island’s navigation menu and continue the quest from there! Once you save the game on the Backup, you can log into your Poptropica account back on the main site and you will be beyond the bridge. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to visit the bridge for any reason due to the membership-wall; you’ll have to skip to the Sumo-area with the Backup navigation menu again. After that, it is smooth sailing from there! Continue the quest on the main site again, head back to the Basho, and sneak into the palace with your newly-acquired ninja tools, and complete the island as a non-member :D. Good luck!
Wow, I will try that! š Thanks! And do you know any glitch similar to SUI island glitch? š
OMG!!! Thanks it worked!!! š Ahhh,I wanted to replay red dragon from such a long time!!! Thanks a lot again!!! š
“veterans will be able to get a kick out of it too.” And she said that the new island will be explaining more about what Poptropica is… so will we finally get back stories?
It’s possible! As you might have seen in our post about Skydock Island, the improved tutorial island might include a library/archives area in the town hall where we can “find mysteries and learn secrets”. š
Yaaaay Poptropica secrets!!! Theory mode activated!
A reply back. GG
I think it would be cool if member only activities can be unlocked with Poptropica credits. Like playing a bonus quest/ 7 member island/ sending in a realms island is free for members but cost points to unlock.
Or maybe selling membership for credits?
I know this is a long shot.
That’s a pretty interesting idea. It would be good to reward loyal Poptropicans with that option (those who have earned lots of credits playing the game but can’t buy a membership because of parents or whatever). š
This is wild. Really like that she cares this much, even to the extent she responds. She was right, we really are a strong community. š
So i was wondering if anyone wanted to be an author on my blog. Its really new and boring at the minute, so i could use some help. The address is poptropicafizz.wordpress.com.
This is so awesome! I really am looking forward to the future in our community! š
I hope that this new news proves beneficial for everyone in the community.
This shows Poptropica will be getting some new stuff. EPIC!!
