Poptropica has been around for 6 years, and over that period of time, many things have happened. I felt compelled to post this because with all the new things happening, the community seems to think that we’re losing sight of the genius Poptropica that we once knew. But right now, I’m here to tell you that we’re not necessarily losing Poptropica. Let’s begin! 😀
When Poptropica started back in 2007, it was nothing more than a playground for the educational FunBrain.com. It was a place that kids could take a break. Unsurprisingly, Poptropica became more popular than FunBrain itself.
So, Poptropica started to get popular. It was mid-2008. The Poptropica Help Blog was born. I also want to mention that around this time, Monster Carnival Island appeared and disappeared on the map. 😉
We started getting hints of the Poptropica Store with some animal costumes — one of which (the lamb) has never been released. Maybe the Creators should get to that soon… 😛 And what happened to that pesky monkey?
In early 2009, rumors of Poptropica Membership leaked, and about a year later, it became a reality.
Popularity Contests were started by the Creators. They continued for a while and then stopped… Who thinks that the PHB should do them again?
Those were the days. Everything was so new. *wipes tear* Let’s use our time machine to go forward to the brisk year of 2013.

Poptropica now has its own DS game. That’s impressive. The Friends feature has been added as well. And there’s even books — and clothing! And woaahhhh! Look at that list of toys! You could never get bored with all thi– never mind, I’m already bored.
But all is well! It’s just our regular Poptropica that we know and love. There are some minor changes, but nothing major. It’s not like Poptropica is going to have sound all of a sudden. 😆
Welp, that settles it. All is lost. Adios. Poptropica is far and beyond what it once was.
It has morphed into a monster.
Six months after that, Monster Carnival Island is finally announced to come out.
Poptropica really likes messin’ with our feelings.

My point in going over many of the changes that Poptropica has gone through is not to throw you into despair. Let’s take a look at one of the pages from the Official Guide Book:

You made a great point about poptropica.
i’ve seen someone with a monkey costume and i have friended him in poptropica, but i can’t customize him. what do i do? (i have cat ears and whiskers and would like to have a tail to finish it off. my usernames are bunnycheer36, bunnycheer63, and bunnycheer9.) (they are all the same but the costumes are different colors.)
I know I’m not HPuterpop, but something like this happened to me once I was playing poptropica on my new account and my player looked very ugly at the time so I wanted to make it cool. My friend had this really cool jacket and I wanted very badly. So I said can I costumize you with the jacket she said yes but it wouldn’t work. the only reason it didn’t work is because it would have her shirt. So after a while I saved up some credits for something like that in the store and I got what I wanted. So I think you need to work on some easy islands like big Nate or 24 carrot and you may find your tail in the store.
After all that I think it’s just poptropicas glitches.

I liked the Doctor Who reference you used there. xD I actually liked the popularity contests, they were fun. It would be fantastic if they’d have them again. 🙂

I agree that Poptropica is more complicated than it used to be, but I’m still a loyal Poptropican and will stick by Poptropica for as long as I can. 😉

I kinda like the sound in islands. In my opinion, the music adds onto the main theme of the island, and is fun to listen to! 🙂

This post actually made me kinda mad at the creators. When I first found out about poptropica, I was on it every day. I was there , watching, when a new island came out . I went through those Monster Carnival disappearing days. I’ve seen it go into all new phases and quickly stop them. I’ve been playing poptropica for all those six years, and the SUI islands are probably the worst phase the creators decided on. I liked the good old days, just after poptropica friends came out. And as my little sister said yesterday, “HEY !!! Where is the copy that persons clothes button???!!” After I explained to her that you had to open that backpack thingy to find it, she sighed, “Well now I don’t care, she’s gone now….I wish the copy button was still right where I could press on it easier, before she runs away…. NOW MAROON BUBBLES WILL NEVER BE COOL!! ” And she made a point there. The person could walk out of the common room before you press the button. But my point is, that I wish poptropica never changed. The day after Poptropolis Games sunk, it felt like poptropica changed…. ( if you are wondering, this is my little sisters username, cupcakedoobeedoo, it would really make her happy if I told her a bunch of phb people were friending her 🙂 )

Truth to be told, I don’t think that the new changes aren’t that bad. Sure, they’re different, but I actually think that the new things are a great addition to Poptropica. What do you hate so much about the SUIs?
For some people, SUIs run drastically slow, but they’ve proven to be far more glitchy than the classic islands. 😉
