Top 5 Picks

DnD Night by BlazingAngel123

Ah, DnD, a classic hobby if I do say so myself! Each character in this composition has a unique expression and design, which really makes the scene dynamic. Can you imagine these villains actually playing games together? It certainly would be a sight to see, and I think Raven would make a great DM. Excellent work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Painting by iLee-Font

I think it’s safe to say that if you’re a fan of community creations, you’re likely a fan of painting as well. Poptropica’s art community is strong and talented as ever, so of course painting is a perfect hobby to showcase! And who better to showcase it than Black Widow herself? I love her design in this piece, and I love the more pastel color scheme. Absolutely wonderful! Find their DeviantArt here.

Poptropica Chess Playing by AdventurersNHunters

Another classic game! For some reason, it is super easy for me to imagine our beloved Poptropicans from Mythology Island playing chess. And to be honest, my money is on Athena over Zeus. But anyway, I love the colors and detail in this design! The background and foreground work well together for sure. Great work! Find their DeviantArt here.

Extreme Work Out (Collab) by NineTenOnetyOne and WitchyArtistGal

Oooh, a collaboration! When two artists put their heads together, great things happen. I love the humor in this piece and the posing of the characters. Plus, dialogue always adds a unique layer of context and interest. You can definitely see the talents of both artists coming together here, which is a wonderful thing to feature! And exercising is certainly a good hobby to get behind. Fantastic! Find their DeviantArts here and here.

Ok by Criaha

Now music is a hobby that certainly has a place in Community Creations! This simple design shows a lot of artistic talent through subtle details and choices. The lineart and shading is smooth and the composition of the arms is excellent. Even the slight glow of the eye adds such great interest! Seeing Binary Bard in this style is really beautiful. Nice work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

No honorable mentions this month guys, sorry! Keep sending in those submissions though! In the meantime, did you catch the PHB’s annual April Fools prank? I think that the work Gentle Dolphin put into it definitely deserves a feature.

April: How Do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what itโ€™s about, itโ€™s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Pop clubhouses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that monthโ€™s theme. So what is April’s theme? April’s theme isโ€ฆ

Stay Home!

During these tough times, it’s important to stay at home so we can keep as many people safe as possible. But I definitely know that boredom can be a tough enemy during these times as well, but that doesn’t mean we have to stay bored! Finding a creative outlet that you can work on while stuck at home is a perfect boredom buster, so why not participate in Community Creations?

The theme is pretty vague this month so everyone can join in. Show us what you’re doing to have fun at home, with a Poptropica styled twist! Any Poptropica art (or writing, or costumes, or anything) you create purely out of boredom is perfectly acceptable to submit. So get out of bed and get creating! Having trouble? Check out our post on what to do in Poptropica during quarantine to spark some inspiration!

Top 5 Picks

Drake by PegaKid2012

Man, already starting out with a classic format, huh? This idea was simple, but creative and very appropriate for our theme! Just goes to show you that ideas can pop out of now where, no matter how much your inspiration may seem to be blocked at first. That’s the whole point of this series, right? Anyway, the layout is perfect and the emotion of the original meme is definitely captured well here. Very funny! Find her DeviantArt here.

Yall Remember Poptropica by ray-of-flight

Ah yes, a cat meme. The internet’s favorite meme format. And rightfully so a lot of the time! I love Black Widow’s coy expression in this design. She somehow perfectly matches the expression of that sly cat? Even in the face of a knife? Anyway, the lineart and coloring here is super clean and professional, with obviously some excellent humor backing up the work. Seriously, how amazingly fitting??? Find his DeviantArt here.

Cursed Image by Gentle Dolphin

Dang, another classic template! We’re really knocking this theme out of the park, huh guys? The reference to Amelia’s seemingly doppelganger in Poptropica is super relevant and funny. It perfectly fits the Spider Man meme format, both in subject matter and in art style! I must say, that 1960s TV vibe really shines through, and it makes for a simply excellent piece. The composition and the figures match the original super well, and the VHS style really shines through when combined with the style of the artist themselves! Find her DeviantArt here.

The Internet’s Slow in a Pocket Dimension by Magniventris

Okay, I know that pose anywhere, even if its in a Binary Bard guise. Another classic meme template! The top and bottom text are super reminiscent of some older meme layouts, and I must say that the Poptropican context is hilarious. The humor and emotion behind this is oddly fantastic, and I love the character design of Binary Bard here! The artist really let their own interpretation of the villain flair, putting in unique detail into his robotic half for sure. Seriously, great work in a simple layout! Find her DeviantArt here.

Jorge Dabs by ANNE14TCO

Pffft, okay, this is kinda silly but I love it. And it’s that what meme culture is all about? I love featuring characters from the Poptropica books, and the animation of this submission certainly makes it stand out from the rest. Dabbing is still cool……… right? *ahem* Stepping away from that, I think that the movement and random humor in this submission is perfect for our theme. Ridiculous, I love it! Find her DeviantArt here.

Poptropica, for many of us, is a cherished lifestyle hobby. But it certainly isn’t the community’s only hobby! So why not showcase some of those other hobbies in our next theme, as much of the world moves towards spring?

Whatever you like to do, or whatever your Poptropican likes to do, is totally acceptable! Whether is be a sport, playing an instrument, theater, glass blowing, baking, ghost hunting, you name it! Maybe you just like, I don’t know, …trains? The limits are completely up to you, so be sure to show off your creativity, but more importantly, your passion!

Top 5 Picks

Steampunk Time Traveler by Wild Eagle

Very cool costume design! I could definitely see this character traveling through time. And in style, too! I’m a sucker for a nice steampunk outfit either way. The greens of this costume work well together, keeping in tune with the other neutral hues. He might get stopped by the time police, but certainly not the fashion police! Well done! Find them often in the comments section.

Perks of Being a Time Traveler by NineTenOnetyOne

Ah, the struggles of being a time demon. I’m sure we can all relate to that… right? Anyway, the humor in this comic is fantastic, present in the dialog, expressions, and even the details of the newspaper. The panels really do tell a short story, and they wonderfully feature a great set of historical figures. The character design is great! Find her DeviantArt here.

The End of Time by iLeeFont

Oooh, a cool take on our theme! Though most of us jump to Time Tangled Island when we hear of Poptropica being paired with time travel, that’s not the only place you can find Poptropicans messing with history! Featuring the beloved characters of the Poptropica graphic novel series, this piece displays fantastic emotion and composition. The artist’s style is very recognizable, and colors are certainly used to their advantage in this one. I especially love the harsh geometric background contrasting the more organic figures. Excellent! Find their DeviantArt here.

The Future by BlazingAngel123

Aye, a throwback piece! Both in when it was drawn and what it’s about, huh? Time Tangled Island is obviously a classic for time travel within Poptropica, and rightfully so. It was always fascinating to see our Poptropican grow old in the future, both in the good and not-so-good settings. These panels perfectly capture the emotion of both timelines, and was originally posted in a gif form on the artist’s profile (not shown here for eye-strain). I even love how the backgrounds for each scene are simple, but easily recognizable. Wonderful character design! Find her DeviantArt here.

Time Tangled by LilPoptrystalTemp

Another classic Time Tangled design! On the island, our Poptropicans travel to many different historical periods. And that’s difficult to capture in one design, not to mention one outfit! Now that I’m thinking about it, I probably looked really out of place in Ancient Rome in my blue hoodie… Anyway, this piece is able to capture exactly that: the various outfits of the time periods on a single figure! I love that the circular division of the composition mimics that of the watch we use on the island as well. Super cool! Find her DeviantArt here.

February marks the 2 year anniversary of this series, can you believe it? It’s crazy that we’ve been doing this for so long, and your talent never gives up! So, to celebrate that milestone, I thought it would be perfect to bring back memories of another beloved PHB series… Poptropican Meme Face Mondays!

Now, your submissions certainly do not have to be constrained to meme faces. They are free to reference any meme you want! Just remain appropriate for those younger Poptropicans, and make sure you tie it into Poptorpica, of course! There are a ton of possibilities, so let’s see what you guys can do to make me laugh! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello once again everyone! Spotted Dragon here bringing you the December recap for Community Creations! December’s theme was Opposites and the featured work is not in any particular order. Be sure to check out all the featured artists!

Top 5 Picks

The Love Between the Hero and the Villain by Meganf123456

Wow, lots going on in this scene! Effort was obviously put into each corner of this drawing, with all the surrounding objects drawing the viewer’s eye to the center. The concept certainly fits our theme of “opposites,” and continues to explore how opposites can come together. I love all the bright colors and effects! Find her DeviantArt here.

Fire and Ice by Quick Fang

A piece that’s spot on to our theme! Fire and ice are classic opposites, so they can easily be applied in this case. The Poptropican designs here are super cool- er, um, hot? Both, yeah, both. And the colors play well into the concept. I wonder what these two would be like if they were actual characters in an island? Find their blog here.

Sphinx by happyclonetrooper

Oooh, wow! I love this scene from Mythology Island, and it’s been captured wonderfully in this drawing. The concept of “life and death” is one of great significance and flexibility, making its way into our theme of “opposites” in a unique way. The colors in this scene are beautiful, particularly in the glowing flower, highlighting the beauty of life. In contrast, the pile of bones beneath the fierce beast is truly a deadly sight. The textures and lighting effects are fantastic as well! Find her DeviantArt here.

Angie and Demi by Gentle Dolphin

Cool, another classic set of opposites! I love Gentle Dolphin’s cute, clean style. Such smooth line art and coloring! And the well-known concept of angels and devils on either shoulder is applied perfectly here. The split composition and corresponding colors/emotions are very appropriate, and I think that we can all relate to the confusing conflict created when trying to make important decisions. Excellently made! Find her DeviantArt here.

Inverted Challenge by ANNE14TCO

Interesting application of our theme! “Opposite” colors can be interpreted many ways, such as complementary colors, saturation differences, etc. But color is often an important element of art to master, so the challenge of inverting color is super cool! The challenge makes for a unique submission, and one that plays with the emotion behind color in an interesting way. Reminds me of a certain scene in Poptropica with Zeus, huh? Nice work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Time Travel!

Time travel is an interesting concept, and with the new year, or should I say new decade, rolling around, now is the perfect time to explore it as a theme! Unlike our previous theme of “historical,” time travel can apply to the future as well as the past. Different eras, in fact, can be found all throughout Poptropica! So how will you apply it to your creative creations?

The possibilities, like always, are endless! Perhaps construct the perfect costume for a time traveler! Or write a story of our your Poptropican got stuck in another timeline? Or draw some of your finest art inspired by Time Tangled Island! Maybe build what your Poptropican’s house will look like far in the future! Time for you to get started creating! ๐Ÿ™‚

Top 5 Picks

Crumb as Allegory of Prosperity by Criaha

Wow, beautiful coloring! I love to see minor Poptropicans put into the spotlight, and this piece does just that. From the texture of the hair, to the attention to detail in Mayor Crumb’s outfit, the technical skill on display here is wonderful. Even the background shows great interest, building an entire world in just one frame. I’m in love with the color scheme and composition! Find her DeviantArt here.

Deadzone by ray-of-flight

Oooh, what a fun design! Though this is simply part of a larger work in progress, I love the sketchy style of the background scene so far. Just this glimpse makes me excited for the project’s future! I think we can all agree that Steamworks Island has some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Poptropica (which was certainly needed to make up for the minimal characters!), making it a perfect inspiration for setting design. Keep up the good work! Find his DeviantArt here.

Poptropica Gijinka Cast 1ย by CutieWinterSnow

What cute character designs! This ragtag lineup is a part of an up and coming Ask Blog โ€” a super cool trend within the Poptropica Community. The ask features some underrated Poptropicans, complete with new humanoid looks, including Holmes, Booga, Sprocket, Merlin, and Monster Plant. So of course Sprocket and the Monster Plant fit our theme! I love the personalities shown in each humanoid design, and I can’t wait to see what interesting Q and A’s pop up! Find her DeviantArt here.

Jackrabbit Humanoid Version by WitchyArtistGal

Oooh! I love this Steampunk inspired original character design, particularly because of its unique animal features. The aesthetic of plants interacting with machinery has always fascinated me, and so I love the inclusion of gears and vines within the figure. Plus, look at that dapper outfit! There’s lots of interesting personality behind this design and the color choices are very appropriate. Great work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Steamworksย by jadedillustrator

Ah, an oldie but a goodie! It is obvious that a lot of time and effort went into making this piece… and with great results! The painted, stylized look is super interesting, pairing well with the cool lighting of the scene. The tone really reflects the more ominous, eerie feeling that accompanies a majority of the Steamworks Island gameplay, huh? Finding bits and pieces of evidence alluding to what happened on the Island was always fascinating, and this drawing captures exactly that. Excellent technical skill and scene development! Find their DeviantArt here.

With the holiday season fast approaching, it is important to remember the value of coming together, no matter our differences. So why not play around with that idea in this month’s theme? In whatever you submit, I want to see some contrasting ideas either clashing or coming together in an interesting blend. Anything you can think of really! Hot and cold, yin and yang, hero and villain! How would they all interact?

Maybe draw a sweet scene for the holiday season, with a blizzard going on outside but a cozy fireplace keeping your Poptropicans warm. Not really a holiday person? Write a story about your heroic Poptropican going head to head with one of Poptropica’s most dastardly villains!
