Synopsis
It’s summertime, but the living ain’t easy for a wimpy kid. When Greg and Rowley visit the boardwalk for a relaxing beach vacation, they never expect to run afoul of thieving teens, ravenous seagulls, and crooked carnies. Only you can clean up Greg’s mess before vacation ends!

Once you land on the Boardwalk, talk to Greg. He’ll tell you how the game he’s playing, Himalayan Hurl, is rigged. When he takes out his money, it flies away into the hands of two teenagers who run off with it.
Follow Greg as he runs after them. Catch up with him at the Boardwalk Arcade and he says the teens disappeared somewhere.
Go right to the beach and talk to the guy selling souvenir keychain photos. Tell him you don’t have any money and he’ll let you take a photo for free. (You get a photo for your photo album once you complete this action). He will give you Sunblock.
Still on the beach, head further right and find the sunburnt guy. Give him the sunblock for his sunburn and he will give you Oily Suntan Lotion in return.
Go back to the boardwalk arcade and see Greg tell you that the kids are underneath the boardwalk taunting you with the money, like so:
If you try to go underneath the boardwalk, they run away with the money. So you’ll have to find a way to get the money without them running away.
For now, check out the boardwalk rides left of the place with the games.
At the Cranium Shaker, the boy with the helicopter wants one of those prizes from the boardwalk. The guy at the popcorn stand says that if you get an empty bag, you can get a free refill. Also, the lady at the parking lot is missing her keys.
Tokens can also be found at the rides. Many places in the funhouse offer tokens such as the top of the slide, the bottom of the slide, and near the door. Outside the funhouse, tokens can be found on the roofs of buildings, by the lady’s car, near the trash, and near the cotton candy stand. (Tip: If you have the metal detector, use it on the beach for more tokens.)
Once you’ve collected some tokens, go right to the games and take your pick! You can play them in any order, but the aim is to win all of them so you can earn the Jumbo Prize.
Fastball Fury
Instructions: Click on the glove to throw a ball. Pay attention to the speed of the first two throws and guess the speed of the last ball correctly to win!
Tip: Really pay attention to the speeds. If your first ball was, say, 77 and your next ball was 83, choose something that’s fairly close or in between those numbers. Don’t forget there’s also a speed meter to see how fast your speed is on the right side of the screen.
Circus Soaker
Instructions: Hold the mouse button to shoot water at the clown’s mouth. The first player to fill their clown’s balloon, wins!
Tip: Just keep aiming at the hole in the clown’s mouth to shoot the water in.
Space Fling
Instructions: Click and hold on the ring to pick it up. Then move the mouse upward and release the button to throw. Ring a bottle by throwing the ring hard enough and at the right angle.
Tip: You don’t have to ring every bottle to win. You only have to ring at least one.
Pirate Panic
Instructions: Click and hold on the ball to pick it up. Then move the mouse upward and release the button to throw. Knock over all the bottles to win.
Himalayan Hurl
The steps leading to playing this game are a bit lengthy, it’s recommended that you play this last. Plus, you’ll need a little help in the form of a lucky charm! 😉
Remember the guy said that if you can find a bag, you can get a free popcorn refill? Go to the Cranium Shaker and climb up the cars to pick up the trash can lid (You’ll be holding it; it will NOT go in your inventory). Put it on the trash can by the funhouse so the bees will be trapped inside.
Next, push it by the cotton candy stand and open it. The bees will become attracted to the cotton candy. Dig through the trash to find an empty Bag of Popcorn at the bottom.
Go to the popcorn stand and click to fill it. There should now be a “Dump” button on the card. Go to the woman on the beach and dump the popcorn next to her. As seagulls crowd her, she’ll leave.
While you’re on the beach, jump onto the trash can and when the seagull carrying something passes over you, jump up and get the Keychain Picture. It’s the metal detector guy! Give him his keychain back, and he’ll give you his Metal Detector.
Use the metal detector to search for the Car Keys under the towel. (Tip: You can also use the metal detector on the beach to scour for extra tokens!)
If you give the car keys to the lady in the parking lot, she will give you Flip Flops! That you can wear! 😮 Isn’t that a first.
Wear the flip flops so you can walk onto the roof of the arcade building without burning your feet. Get the Flying Disc down for the crying kid. He’ll give you a tip: “If you jiggle the handle on the claw machine, you can get a free game!”
Click the claw machine to play it. Jiggle the handle, then clear out all the items to uncover the… EW! Fake Vomit! What a horrible prize. Anyway, it is useful.
Go back to the bumper car line (where the rides are), and drop it, causing the kids will clear out in an unorderly fashion. Probably not the best way to react to vomit…
Click on the guy operating the ride to start your turn! You have 1 minute and 30 seconds to bump Rowley’s red-orange bumper car three times, which will cause him to drop his Lucky Rabbit’s Foot.
Once you have the rabbit foot, make your way over to Himalayan Hurl to test your luck!
Instructions: This game takes a lot of luck. Do you feel lucky? Click anywhere to throw the ping pong ball and shoot for the red hole.
Getting the money back
As you may have noticed, after each game you play, you get a prize to keep. But for winning all the games, you’ll get the Jumbo Prize!
When you get it, go to the Rides at the boardwalk and give it to the boy with the helicopter. He’ll give you his Remote Controlled Helicopter, which you’ll need later.
Go to the funhouse and you’ll see that Rowley is stuck in the slide. Use the suntan lotion that you may or may not have forgotten you’ve had to get him unstuck. But when he slides down, he lands into a pool of balls in which Fregley seemed to be drowned in. Fregley’s mom will thank you and reward you with Fish Sticks.
Go over to the beach and use the Fish Sticks at the edge of the sand. Hang it from the helicopter and use it as bait, and the two items will combine. Use the remote controlled helicopter in your backpack and hold it over the ocean. A crab will soon cling onto it.
Then go back over to the boardwalk arcade and use the helicopter (with the dangling crab) near the dollar bill. The crab will then cling onto the dollar bill, preventing the teenagers from below the boardwalk from snatching the bill away. While they’re distracted by the dollar bill, you and Greg can go under the boardwalk to finally get the money back.
When you arrive, the teenagers run away, but Greg gets his dollar bill back. And for helping him out, you receive the Island Medallion and credits to spend at the Poptropica Store. Congratulations!
Bonus quest (members only)
Before you go, there’s one more task to be done. A devious gamer has left an embarrassing message about Greg on a high-score list in the arcade. Can you master the game, save Greg’s dignity, and become the boardwalk champion?
This part is for members only. You will need to beat the current second place high score by scoring over 800,000 points on Thunder Volt, a retro-style arcade video game.
(Thunder Volt is also similar to the Virus Hunter Island promo game, Nano-Combat Training, which members can get for free in the Store. You may find the PHB’s guide for that helpful as well.)
The game comes in waves, and you need to shoot the targets by pointing your mouse in their direction and clicking. Move your cursor around the screen to move yourself, and avoid touching the targets. The more targets you shoot, the higher your score!
From time to time you may see some power-ups. Collect them for benefits. The key is:
- Red boosts your firepower
- Yellow scores you a bonus
- Blue repairs your shields
- Purple clears enemies on screen
Standard targets (the majority) only take one hit to destroy, and bigger/different colored ones (bosses) will take more. If the bosses shoot at you, avoid them. At the end of a wave, a Giant Enemy will appear. You need to keep clicking to shoot at it, but move around and avoid their shots. Its health bar is shown at the top. When it’s destroyed, the next wave will begin.
It gets harder with each wave, and there are four waves in total. By the end of it, you should have scored enough points to put Greg out of his shame. Congratulations, you’ve finished Wimpy Boardwalk!

- Wimpy Boardwalk is Poptropica’s 28th island. It was released on July 3, 2012 for members andJuly 18, 2012 for non-members, a shorter wait than usual.
- As of July 10, 2015, the island became locked to members only, with a demo for non-members.
- For the first time ever, your character gets to put on footwear! (Flip Flops)
- Common room: Laser Tag (with handheld laser guns!)
- This is the second Diary of a Wimpy Kid island on Poptropica, the first being Wimpy Wonderland. However, unlike Wimpy Wonderland, this one is in full color. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a book series by Jeff Kinney, who is also the creator of Poptropica. Because the island is drawn in the style of the book’s illustrations, the characters are not customizable.
- The boardwalk is featured in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book Dog Days, as well as its movie counterpart, which features elements like the Cranium Shaker ride. (In Dog Days, Rowley’s parents get him an “I Survived the Cranium Shaker” shirt even though he was too scared to get on the ride, much to Greg’s chagrin. The shirt can be seen as a souvenir decoration on the island.)

Y’know, I might have made the biggest mistake on this island. I was putting the trashcan lid by the trashcan (I knew I had to before reading this guide) but I guess I did it wrong, and now the trashcan lid is directly UNDER the trashcan, so I can’t get it…. 😦

You get them from Fregley’s mom after getting Rowley unstuck from the slide tube using your suntan lotion. Be sure to read the guide completely if you need help. 😉

When I was playing it, I went to go to the sunburned guy and I did but when I got to the sand it said “end of demo” and it asked me if I would be a member. Is wimpy boardwalk going to be available to non-members soon? I really wanted to play this island.
As far as we know, there aren’t any plans to make it available to non-members, but if there are, we’ll announce it on our blog!

I personally think it’s so stupid how I pay ten bucks for a membership card and get really boring bonus quests. I thought it would be fun, but they’re really boring. But, yes, I do still get all of the other costumes and stuff.

when I got the popcorn the image in my inventory wouldnt work. Its just a white box. Ive waited for twenty minutes to see if it would load, but it didnt, and i even restarted the island and it still wont work. This has happened to me before and i forgot what i did to fix it. please help. 😦
As long as the “Dump” button appears, you should be fine. Just click to Dump when you’re near the lady on the beach. Read the guide if you’re not up to that point yet or need more details. 😛
I can’t find the seagull with the keychain!
I had that problem, too. Try leaving the Beach, going to the Boardwalk arcade, and then going back to the Beach. That worked for me.

You have to get the keychain picture from the seagull. Give the keychain to the man who’s holding the metal detector. He should give you the metal detector once you given him the keychain.

There’s no extra prize for completing bonus quests like Thunder Volt. They’re just extra moments of play time that only members have the privilege of enjoying. 😛

there is no seagull!
There should be a seagull flying around on the beach with the man’s keychain picture, but in order for it to appear you may need to complete the steps prior to that point, such as talking to the man with the metal detector.

You have to dump the popcorn on her so that Sea Gulls attack and she runs away. You can then put the metal detector over the towel to get the keys.

You can still collect tokens on the boardwalk after completing the quest, to use on playing the games.

I know a cheat for Fastball Fury- Put your shot at Too Fast for all 3 shots and then, at the last shot, choose the option 100. Easy!
i did something else i put the last shot at slow and i clicked the lowest answer so easy

I wish i could beat greg because he is kinda a jerk so let him be calleda nd idiot and lets Gentle spider have 1st places on thundervolt forever(plus greg cheated its impossible to get that many points)
That’s why I’m not doing the bonus quest. It’s too much work and you don’t even get a reward at the end. Bonus quests aren’t really my thing, but I might play the SVI bonus quest when I get the medallion.
I already gave the guy the Sunblock, but the seagull with the keychain isn’t flying by! What do I do? (i already restarted the island once)
Go back to the boardwalk, then back to the beach and you will see a seagull.
How do I get the $20 from the teenagers????? I don’t understand
U go down by the water, then Put the fish stick in the helicopter, then hold it over the ocean, click on yourself, and Bring it over to the $20 and hit “Use” on the helicopter, Hold it over the money, the crab will grab it. The rest falls into place xD

Every time I go back to this island I end up playing and completing a different one, because I can’t get the other mini-game prizes. I hope I’ll finally complete this one today, it’s been driving me crazy.
Beat the third wave boss w/ multiplier 4,5,or 6. THAT will get you over 800,000 points.
Tip for Circus Soaker: Make sure the water is inside the little hole of the mouth to fill your balloon faster.

I can’t do Space Fling. Apparently the mouse that it shows in the instructions where you click so the ring goes upward is different from mine, so I can’t click and the rings keep falling. Can anyone help?

How do you give Greg the suntan lotion?
You don’t, you use the oil to get rowley out of the slide in the funhouse. As a reward fregleys mom will give you fregleys leftover fish sticks.(already played).
i can’t find the seagull with the key chain i know where the bin is but i can’t see the seagull

It’s hard, of course. but there are a way:
Jump above the trash bin, then wait to the seagull to fly above. Then jump! If you have perfect aiming you will get the keychain

Figured out what to do! Get the keychain from the seagull by jumping on the trash can. Then give it to the guy with the metal detector then you can use that to find tokens! 😀
