Changing Your Name

While Poptropicans nowadays begin their lives with the default name of Hamburger Hamburger, you can officially change your player name. There are two ways and one button: look for the pencil icon next to your name on either the character screen or friends page. Note: Name generator options vary. 

You can also further customize your name with the Custom Name Genie glitching tool! Use the lists below to make one that shows up in-game.

Exceptions

There are some exceptions to Poptropica names that aren’t the normal adjective-noun combination. Besides the default Hamburger Hamburger, there have also been glitched names like Name Unknown, Poptropican Lizard, and Undefined Undefined.

Poptropica Creator accounts also have their own names which will show up in-game. If you are looking for a cool custom name, you can mix any of these first/last names with each other or with those above to create a combination that will show up in common rooms and to your friends!

From the lists above, it is worth noting that the original Creator names are Binary Bard, Black Widow, Captain Crawfish, Comic Kid, Director D, Dr. Hare, Hades, Hazmat Hermit, Master Mime, Medusa, Ned Noodlehead, Shark Guy (formerly Shark Boy), Triton, Vlad the Viking, and Zeus.

Other custom names come from NPCs (non-player characters) that have appeared as ads: Cosmoe and Nikki Maxwell. Some are explained by combinations we know about or that make sense, like (Monster) Carnival, Wimpy (Kid), or Unknown Player. Still others are more mysterious, as we’re not sure where these names came from: Businessman, Chief, Coder, Diver, Hero of, Hook, Hurricane, Jaguar, Jester, Kid, Knight, Laser, Ninja, Ocean, or The. However, these will all appear in-game!

If you come across a modified version of any of these names, the player has probably gotten a custom name through a harmless hack.

  3. When I made my account, Poptropica was fairly new and I didn’t know that I could refresh until I found the perfect name. Luckily I didn’t end up with a name like Beefy Clown, I got Shaggy Coyote, which I’m pretty happy with. I rarely go on either of my two other accounts, but those are Scary Lightning and Wild Wolf.

  24. Hi! One of my account names is Muddy Cheetah, another one is something along the lines of Silver Fox I think and my current one is Quiet Flame. I accidentally clicked change all, otherwise my name would be Bronze Dragon (Festus from HOO anyone?). So sad.

When I was checking his profile on the Avatar Studio, I saw that his name was Codien, not a usual Poptropican name! Also, all of the Creators have unique names that are permanent.     1. My Poptropica name is Friendly Fish, which is on the list. Slanted Fish is just an alias I use, which you can read a bit about in this PHB post, but it’s not my Poptropica name. However, as you noted, some people have been able to get custom names with hacks, which we don’t explain how to do here in case they get fixed by Poptropica. Yes, the Creators have unique names, which are mentioned at the bottom of this page under “Exceptions”. Hope that clears things up, and merry Christmas! 🙂

  76. hello, i have played poptropica for quite some time, but for some reason some very wierd things have happened to my name. first it was unidentified unidentified, then it was some combo of numbers and letters, all i know is it started with a J. now it is poptropican lizard. i was quite young then and had no idea what was happening. i was wondering if you guys had any idea what happened. i have also heard on this site that custom names appear to be poptropican lizard sometimes and sometimes appear as the custom name. in what cases do you see the custom and on what cases do you see the new one

    1. That sounds very odd, and is probably a glitch. To answer the other question, custom names will always show on the Avatar Studio, but will show up in-game as “Poptropican”.

  82. “Lava” is one of the possible adjectives/first names? I’ve been on Poptropica since February 2008 and that’s the only one on the list that I’ve literally never seen. I even tried searching on the avatar studio (for example, if you search the username sneakyrock, someone named Sneaky Rock usually comes up) but no one had lava in their name! Is that name from some kind of glitch or maybe discontinued?

    1. I don’t know whether he can, but I doubt he would misuse the information if he did. If you’re still worried, though, you can log into your account after making it and change your password in the account settings.
