Pop Places IRL: Arabian Nights 🐪

Pop Places IRL Header

Welcome back to “Pop Places IRL,” Poptropicans! Miss the series? I know I did! This time around, we’ll be traveling to Arabian Nights Island! Like this series? Be sure to check out other Pop Places IRL posts.

As you might already know, Arabian Nights was the winning idea from Poptropica’s “Create Your Dream Island” contest back in 2013. The pitch? “On Arabian Nights Island, Poptropicans go on a quest across the desert to rescue a sultan’s genie from the Forty Thieves.” And it turned out to be quite the tale!

The adventure, like Disney’s “Aladdin,” takes place in Arabia (hence the name). This Middle Eastern peninsula is certainly a distinct location, and it definitely shines through in the island! Don’t believe me? Let’s take a closer look.

Right away on our Poptropicans’ adventure, we are greeted with “Episode 1: How Bazaar.” The title itself is a pun, playing off the term “bazaar” to sound like “how bizarre.” A bazaar, if you were unaware, is a type of Middle Eastern marketplace, which (not coincidentally) is a prominent location on the island.

Pretty cool, right? The colorful fabrics, clothing, and items for sale certainly catch the eye. But perhaps even more impressive, we have the palace to visit!

I personally find the architecture of the Middle East to be a particularly remarkable characteristic of the area, but maybe that’s just my inner art history nerd coming out? Either way, the design in Poptropica seems to match up pretty well to its inspiration, so let’s take a look on the inside as well!

Poptropica’s palace atrium (left) is busier than our reference photo (right), but it sure does add interest to the adventure! I think that the game really did stay true to its inspiration, even with their color/detail additions. What do you think?

Stepping further away from the bustling market, however, we could also take a look at the less populated areas of the island. Even if a huge Lair of Thieves is tough to find IRL, there are definitely still cave systems we could investigate. And, like in Poptropica, maybe we can find some salt and other minerals to trade!

Why don’t we take a camel and keep traveling away from the market, further into the desert next? And now we happen upon an oasis!

Even in this largely desert landscape, it’s cool to see the pops of color that show up. The Poptropica Creators really took advantage of their inspiration when designing this island, huh?

But what do you guys think? Have you ever been to the Middle East? Does the comparison match up to your expectations? What other islands do you want to see in this series? Be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts below!

Farewell, fellow travelers, and good night!

Arabian Nights Island, Creators, Member Gifts, Membership

April’s “bazaar” Member Gifts have blossomed

Hello, Poptropicans!

It’s Lucky Joker here with the member gifts for April! If you’re a member, these items will be automatically added to your account’s inventory upon logging in.

The special gift items this month are:

  • Blossom Power
  • Daisy Pot Hat
  • Bunny Car

I quite like these items as they’re perfect for the season, well… for those of us living in the northern hemisphere that is. It’d would’ve been really cool, though, if we got a Dr. Hare car instead of just a generic bunny, haha! What do you think? Are you a fan of these items? Sound off in the comments!

In other news, over on the Creators’ Blog, new author Blue Tooth gave some sound advice on how to get past the palace guards on episode 1 of Arabian Nights: “How Bazaar.” They also shared this cool artwork to go along with it. Pretty neat!

If you need help on completing the entire episode, or any island for that matter, be sure to check out our full island walkthroughs right here on the PHB! 😉

Also, don’t forget to fill out our reader’s survey! The deadline is Saturday, April 6. Thanks for reading as always, I’ll talk to you soon…pop on!

Arabian Nights Island, Islands of the Month, Time Tangled Island

Going Back in Time: January’s IotMs

Hey there, Poptropicans!

It’s Happy Lobster here. So, a new month is kicking in, and what does that mean? Yet another month for the community to moan and groan about the overdue New Pop? Well, possibly, for those who feel like doing so … but it’s also time for another set of Islands of the Month!

The islands featured this January are Time Tangled Island and Arabian Nights. Looks like the Creators want us to visit some islands submerged in the past this time around.

january-poptropica-islands-of-the-month

As per usual with IotMs, Poptropica gives out the usual quota of extra credits for finishing IotMs: first-time finishers receive 500 credits for completing the islands in question, and repeat finishers receive 300 credits.

But Arabian Nights is not an normal island – it consists of three seperate episodes. So, how will the credits be distributed for finishers? Like for one of December’s IotMs, PoptropiCon (another episodic island), each episode gives out 500 and 300 credits for first-time finishers and re-players, respectively. So if you complete each episode for the first time, you can receive 1,500 credits! (It’s 900 for 1st-repeat finishers.) It’s about time you were rolling in credits.

Need help completing these islands? Well, Captain Crawfish has some video walkthroughs prepared for Arabian Nights, and is working on one Time Tangled’s walkthrough has been completed!

If you want written walkthroughs to assist you, you can always read the PHB’s guides to Time Tangled Island and Arabian Nights.

Well, that’s all for January’s IotMs. Make sure to hurry and earn those extra credits this month!

Arabian Nights Island, Daily Pop, March Madness

March Madness Tie and Purplish Pictures

Greetings Hawk-tropicans! This is Giant Hawk speaking, and today, I have some more rather maddening news dreamt up for you all.

tumblr_me9knc9dw41qg35tio2_500

So, you all remember March Madness, right? Well, it’s still going on – but nevertheless, the Creators have decided to grace us with knowledge of the competition’s three frontrunners. The statistics are as follows:

  1. Red Dragon Island – 19.8%
  2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island – 19.8%
  3. Wimpy Boardwalk Island – 15.1%

And believe it or not, Red Dragon and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are only one vote away from each other! So everyone get voting, because March Madness ends on March 31. Your votes mean more now than ever, and remember you can vote once in every common room!

Just a reminder, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island is currently free for all for a limited time (until when, we don’t know) – so if you do want to get the most out of this, maybe vote for another island so we can play both for free? #RedDragonIslandFTW

In other news, have you seen this semi-recent post on the Daily Pop? It’s the only sneak peek we’ve gotten so far this month…

screen2bshot2b2016-03-162bat2b5-21-382bpm1

Super mysterious, right? For what could this sneak peak be? Could it be for an upcoming island cutscene, or perhaps an animated short/special?

The possibilities are endlessly intriguing, so I would like to hear from all of you Poptropica theorists – what do you think this is, and where do you believe it be featured further?

Update: Last but not least, check out this pic Poptropica tweeted of the Arabian Nights Island Poster – where we can see it as a painting in real life!

Until next time…

Recently on the PHB, Brave Tomato posted about a new feature coming to the app called “Poptropica TV“, with original cartoon videos! Captain Crawfish mentions this on the blog, and Poptropica confirmed on Twitter that the update will be coming to the app next week, but you can watch a couple of the videos in BT’s post.

That’s all of the updates in the latest version of the Poptropica app. What do you think? Make sure to enter UiPE’s Fan Art contest and watch the Poptropica cartoons! Don’t forget to leave a comment!
